OBJECTION! - The Phoenix Wright Thread

i feel comfortable with wright as my point man using my assists to back him up…until i either get all good evidence or at least two pieces of good evidence

I think I discovered another property of Order in the Court. You know how it has start-up invincibility, right? Well, in addition to this I believe it can nullify projectile hypers as well, similar to Akuma’s shoryuken super. I haven’t tested this, but once I did it in order to escape from getting chipped out from Ryu’s beam super, DHCed into Deadpool’s Happy Happy Trigger, and somehow the Happy Happy Trigger managed to beat out the beam super.

I’ll test this some more later.

i gotta agree with you russ this is the phoenix wright thread and yet we still have people coming in here to tell us he’s not a viable serious character and is only meant for casual/joke matches…if anyone really wants to use wright and wants to talk about him here

then they have to leave that negative attitude at the front door we’re not going to take people talking about him like he was designed to be the dan hibiki of this game

Just a tip for those who want to punish people who get greedy on offense - you can really punish people with DHCs.

Example:

You throw out Maya super in a situation where (lets say Dante), Dante can teleport behind you and to his knowledge think he has a free Down S into kill. You can then DHC into a character that can punish that with ease (lets say Sentinel). Sentinel hits him with a full DHC plasma storm, x factors, relaunches, air combo into corner plasma storm - Dante dies.

When you factor in DHCs, a PW with two bars has a lot of breathing room. Something to keep in mind.

You’ve never contributed any ideas, strategy, technology, matchup knowledge, or any other constructive stuff in any thread for any character in any game I’ve ever seen you post in. I think Wright sucks but I’m working on teams and ways to expedite him into turnabout mode that I’m sharing with people on the forums and on YouTube. What are you doing?

i am doing the best i can to make phoenix wright work for me
i’ve used him well over 300 times and won’t stop i don’t think wright sucks he’s just different he’s not like other characters
i may not be a tech savy fighting game fan or someone who can come up with brilliant strats and info in a flash but i dedicate myself to my characters and my teams

i enjoy using phoenix wright and know that every match will be an uphill battle but that’s something i can handle and it makes me a better player at the end of the day

what i can’t handle though is having to deal with the nay-sayers and haters who have to ridicule phoenix wright on a daily basis…makes supporting the character harder than it has to be when you find out that most people think he’s the joke character of this game and isn’t meant to be taken seriously or used outside casual matches…

So in other words…you’re not actually contributing anything? All you’re doing is whining about someone who may as well be your boyfriend? That’s what it looks like to me. Maybe instead of crying about how pros don’t “give Wright any respect” or use him,how about you actually try and make a name for yourself and come up with useful ideas? Playing with Wright over 300 times and having absolutely nothing to contribute besides painfully obvious stuff is sad.

So the team I have right now is Phoenix, Ghost Rider, Hulk.

Also I choose ‘paper’ assist with Phoenix instead of Press the Witness.

It’s working ok for now. Ghost Rider’s assist wall slams and Hulk’s being used as an anti-air.

It’s working ok for now, more often then not PW dies at the start and GR / Hulk clean up afterwards though.

Why paper? I feel like witness is his best assist, at least for all the teams I’ve tried out. Helps in pressure and mixups for offense, pushes people away on defense, and kills almost everything in turnabout. And regardless of what you’re using it for, it gives more time for confirming and seems to scale hit stun less. Interested to know why you’re going the other way.

Well I was thinking that the paper assist can be really good for zoning teams.

I was thinking that Hawkeye might get more from the area covered by paperwork than a lockdown/wallbounce assist.

We all know how good its Amy’s paper special and I believe that Wrights turnabout paper is very similar to it but covering a larger space.

In his defense though anyone who ain’t proficient in fighters can rack up 300+ games as a character and still not really know wth they’re doing. This may not be the case for Cobra but it definitely is for me. Although through the help of this site, I am learning to be more conscious of how I play. So yeah, folks like us don’t really contribute because we can’t.

But I do agree that the whinging has got to stop.

I know Witness is the superior assist but I like the vertical space Paper covers, plus it has this weird knack for lingering on past PW leaving. Some of the papers will like fan out and hit at the end so it tends to catch people off guard. I’m just used to assists covering space then continuing a combo, I’m a horribly defensive person in that regard.

I may switch to Witness but I’m letting things pan out for the moment. I want to find a happy middle ground where I don’t have to run to cookie cutter teams just to make him work.

Even if you aren’t presenting anything of your own, simply letting others know they’re on the right track or telling them a tip helped is a great contribution. It shapes the technology to know what others think of it.
The issue I’m having is Wright is not perfect in all ways. I haven’t actually seen anyone simply say he was ass without something to support that assertion. I’ve seen a lot of this as a retort from a few parties, though, across multiple sections of this board. It’s draining.

^ I feel odd replying after you.

I’ll keep that in mind.

I don’t know if this has been discussed before, but I’ve managed to kill the Phoenix Wright Invincible assist using Dante’s Million Dollars by accident.
I don’t quite remember how I got into the situation, but online I got knocked a full screen behind a Phoenix Wright assist. I recovered fast enough to throw a Million Dollars while he was out, he got hit while doing the animation to get off the screen.

Nick is only invulnerable from the front. From behind he can still get hit.

Actually, I think I’ve met someone online the other day who took adavantage of this. He was using Super-Skrull, and as soon he saw my Break the Witness assist come out he Meteor Smashed behind him and did an immediate Inferno. I thought he just got lucky the first time, but he pulled this off on me twice, so I think he did it intentionally. ._.

I actually think Super-Skrull is Phoenix Wright’s worst match-up. Large-ranged command grabs that can grab through Maya’s shield plus this certainly at least makes him a horrible one…

Oh really? Someone else said command throws **didn’t **work on Maya. Was it that you weren’t inside her(giggle) so that the arm literally went through her?
I haven’t been able to test this out myself yet.

I’m pretty sure they do… but I can’t test it now. I’m at home in Florida for Thanksgiving and my PS3 is back in Texas lol.

Yeah, Wright does have some bad match ups, I’m pretty sure that Trish’s qcf :h: goes through Maya. Skrull and Ghost Rider cause him problems as well. However, I find skrull to be a helpful asset for Wright.

Right now I’m playing Wright/Skrull/Nova. If you call Maya and then Skrull’s Tenderizer assist, you can prevent people from jumping and dashing over Maya. Tenderizer really locks down even on block, so you get the chance to pull 2 or 3 pieces. I tag out once I courtroom to Skrull, use Nova’s Overhead assist to help me open up the opponent, then I TAC into Wright, go into Turnabout. Tag Out into Nova, and it’s game set and match. Once you get the Press The Witness assist in Turnabout, you essentially win the game. 240,000+ damage, more invincible than Haggar Lariat (without gaining red life) and a wall bounce. Not to mention, Wright Anchor is a serious threat unlike Haggar.
