OBJECTION! - The Phoenix Wright Thread

The guide stated that it was 100% invincible from start to finish, and it emphisized on that.

On top of that, I set a dummy Ryu to do Shinku Hadouken while I called out Break the Witness, and from start to finish he didn’t get hit and the Shinku hadouken started before he was called out and ended after he had already left.

EDIT: It turns out it seems hes vulnerable from behind, only invincible when being attacked from the front.

So I did some messing around with evidence and I found that if you get lvl 3 x factor, the cell phone and simply spam it in turnabout mode. You can kill your opponent just from chip damage. I had a team of Thor, Hulk and Nemesis sit there and block and I was able to chip them all down before X factor and Turnabout mode wore off. (At works I got Thor and Hulk dead and Nemi to half health).

So since its tracking and does a ton of damage and really spamable I think this would worth a try in a real game. Only problem might be teleporters but I think the projectiles move so fast and that there maybe so many it may be really difficult to do so.

And if you can see the tele coming then try Ace Attorney.

Downside of using the cell phone is that the tracking projectiles disappear is Wright gets hit.

Just had my Wright get hit out of Break the Witness assist by Akuma’s beam hyper. He was on his way out and as soon as my point character was tagged, wright took damage.
I haven’t been able to recreate this yet.

I figured out why this happens, well not entirly but I can recreate it. Go to training mode as Ryu or any other character that has a beam super and have PW be your opponent, use dummy control and get him to turnabout mode and swap him out. Then use P2 record and record the opponent calling out his Break the witness assist. Now set it to Playback and just as you hit playback jump over the opponent’s character and PW and hit them from the other side with Shinku Hadouken, this should cause PW to get hurt.

Basicaly you need to make PW go the wrong way and then hit him with a beam super.

Its weird how hes vulnerable like that from behind, and it only works when your on the opposite side of your opponent and the direction he’s heading too.

i think a lot of people are giving up on wright too easily

Just popping in to say that including command normals, Dante has 38 moves. Phoenix Wright has 52.

Dante only has 38 moves? I thought he had like 40 something?

Re: assist thing, I can confirm what Dapuffster said for both Paperwork and Press the Witness. Seems like he’s definitely vulnerable from behind.

Kinda OT but I keep accidentally doing reverse DPs instead of QCBs, when I could almost never pull those off consistently in Vanilla. I think I’ve teleported more times with Dormammu in one UMVC3 training session than I ever have in the 9 months I owned Vanilla.

Also, can we have a match-up thread? For Wright I feel it’s especially necessary to have all this reference in one sitting.

Don’t think anyone has mentioned this yet, but some new tech for landing an objection (solo) with Wright off a throw into the corner (either you’re in the corner and backthrow them, or they’re in the corner and you front throw them.)

You can do the following:

Throw into corner, Call Maya (H) --> XFC --> Trial mode --> Launch --> Air objection.

Also works with air throws that end up in the corner as well.

Jeez it’s frustrating getting all the correct evidence and either being unable to land that objection or landing it and not being able to do much before wright gets destroyed…

^Practice makes perfect!

Not Really…there will come times where it will be almost impossible for phoenix wright to do anything(for example just played against someone using hulk/ghost rider/shuma and wright never stood a chance…hulk destroyed him after he got his evidence and needed the objection…)

there will be times where phoenix wright is clearly outmatched and there’s nothing he can do
it’s a flaw that is annoying to deal with…

I feel your pain there have been several matches where I just need to land that objection! and the match is mine, but I’ll miss it and then its all downhill from there.

Pheonix is doing well on my team, using Thor and Hsien-Ko {I took Zero out so he would be on a second team since he’s strong enough to cover for two other characters while they get up to speed.}

A good way to get an objection is to do it on an assist. It will count as a hit and put him into turn about mode. I’ve been using him mostly as an assist as I haven’t learned his bnb combos yet. Just wanted to go straight to online mode to see how well he does and he’s been doing fairly good. With Thor as the point character, Hsien-Ko in Rimokuon mode, and Pheonix in turn about mode, I accidentally made a “revolving door of death”, where Thor just rushes in while the assists take turns with their multi-hit, invincible assist attacks. The end result was a rage quit from the opponent. Too bad I didn’t record it{the camera was recharging at the time.}

Here’s a match where using an invincible assist + Maya allows Pheonix to safely get all the evidence. In this noob form, I’ve been getting objections by doing super jumps and diving back down with an objection. It will randomly hit their point character or assist. It’s been working so far ever since I began using that strategy.

it’s the major downside to playing wright…you’ll rarely if ever have a good matchup

If I find that PW is just getting demolished in the beginning I’ll tag him out and let him heal his red health so that I can try again later.

I doubt he has any match-ups that are heavily in his favor, but its still early so hopefully in the future we can flesh out some plans against teleporters and heavy rush down.

My team is currently Phoenix Wright(Press the Witness)/Hulk(Anti-Air Gamma Charge/Ryu(Tatsumaki Senpukayku)

Against teleporters I will usually jump back and wait for the teleport. Once they teleport I’ll call out Hulk. As Hulk hits I call out Maya.

  1. If they let me be: Free Evidence.
  2. If they attack me in Maya Shield: Free combo into free evidence.
  3. If they sit just outside of Maya Shield waiting for it end: Free grab into free evidence.

Against Heavy Rushdown I generally wait for them to attack me, advance guard into Maya and just do my thing.
If I’m mid combo with bad evidence I’ll end the combo with the stance change into gavel hyper to get rid of it as I find throwing bad evidence to be a terrible projectile that’s very unsafe unless the opponent is being held back by an assist.

Once I’ve gathered all of my evidence I switch to Courtroom mode. If I have full health I will usually attempt to get in with PW. Using assists and Objection! to get in. Usually I find a lot of people don’t block PW’s Note Scribbling after his crouching heavy. Thus launch into Objection! for Turnabout mode. Generally though I’ve been nicked here and there so I’ll hard tag or Cross Over Counter. Get a hit in and TAC into PW for the solo Objection! Usually I get the TAC when I perform a side TAC. I find most people block down, followed by up.

I don’t remember seeing this posted, so incase anyone might be wondering.

Against Super Armor, you go into Turnabout mode and the opponent’s armor still absorbs the hitstun.

So it seems that if you kill Phoenix with Phoenix Wright’s Objection (and go into Turnabout Mode), Dark Phoenix’s blowback effect doesn’t work on Wright. That’s…something, I guess.
