OBJECTION! - The Phoenix Wright Thread

Against highly mobile characters used by retarded players who don’t give a fuck, Phoenix Wright isn’t going to get started without a good assist. That is my conclusion from last night’s wnf. Still, I’m going to make him work even if it kills me.

I just got off of a 7 game ranked win streak with my Wright team!

I know he’s weird to use, but honestly you guys are ridiculous from already writing him off (or really, any character at this point). He’s a totally crazy character that you MUST build a team around. Like seriously, even though I’m pretty confident with my Wright right now, there’e no way I’m playing him without my team.

An assist that creates pressure and space is really nice, (for me that’s shopping cart), and also a GTFO assist (Ghost Rider spire). I really have hardly any trouble finding evidence. Even against teleporters (call Ghost Rider, step forward). Landing the Objection is the real challenge. But I’ve found much more effective ways of landing it now, like off of his air throw with GR’s assist.

Anyway, I guess the more people that can’t handle his play-style and leave the more unexpected my Wright will be. So far I’m the only Wright I’ve seen online anyway. But yeh, if you think your just going to be able to call Maya or one assist and be a-ok with Wright it’s not going to work.

The past about 50 or so matches I’ve played, every-time I get turnabout mode (which is becoming less difficult, but will probably always be a challenge) I win, with a few exceptions. If used correctly turnabout mode is just a gargantuan buff for Wright and his team. It feels good man. Oh and just to let you know, I prefer his paperwork assist, which i**s invincible during turnabout mode.

Last night my Wright team was going on streaks of 12 or so. And against good players too. In one day I’ve gone from getting more losses than wins, to getting way more wins than losses. He’s just going to take time and stability tactics. If you don’t have the time go pick some other character.

Also, Banks glad you got the game and are taking a liking to Wright dude.

Hey guys should we report the Phoenix Wright not being invincible glitch to Capcom? For those who don’t know Turnabout Press the Witness is suppose to be fully invulnerable, but apparently there are times when he gets hit. I know it doesn’t happen often but, it seems like something that would kill Wright if it did.

It might be intentinal. Who knows. But if it stays in, I still don’t think it’s enough to hinder the assist. It’s still awesome.

I need to check the paperwork assist to see if it has the same amount of specific vulnerability that press the witness does. Because so far it’s just as invincible as press the witness. I even prefer it to press the witness really. I’ll test it it today in the training room with hulk.

I tried paperwork. Hulk gamma crush hits Wright out of the end of press the witness, but does not hit him out of paperwork. Maybe other supers do, I dunno, but it’s at least not vulnerable in the same way press is.

Thanks David. This is fucking awesome to hear, because I already preferred his paperwork assist. In turnabout mode it’s got amazing cover, durability, damage, hitstun, and of course there’s the whole completely invincible thing. It’s great for helping Frank get in and start combos, and for providing Ghost Rider with cover.

It’s just godlike really. But this makes the question of wether or not Press the Witness’ vulnerability is a glitch or not even weirder.

I usually just put Phoenix Wright in second just incase and DHC him in afterwards to create some space when he gets in for a quick moment and try not to be stingy with hypers when he’s out. I’m not sure if it’s great but it helps me buy time to investigate.

Maybe you can try hypers like shopping cart to hit him out of it if it’s fast enough. Just a thought.

Is it Break the Witness he’s being hit out of? I’m not able to duplicate that…

Yeh the Break the Witness assist has some sort of small bit of vulnerability. It looks like it’s at the end, has to be about 2 or 3 frames tops, and must be a psychical attack. No one knows if it’s intentional or a glitch. Look for my post a couple ways back for a way to test it with Hulk.

Maybe it is a glitch, because it seems really inconsistent whether some people have it get interrupted or not.

Must be. I can’t duplicate it with any projectile. Is this just before Nick’s jumping out? Gamma crush… hmm…

Edit: Scratch that, i was able to hit him out of Break the Witness using Tron. I’ll put it up in a moment.

Edit 2: I’ve been able to hit Hulk out of Gamma crush, and hit Wright out of Break the Witness 50/50. Seems odd.

My mind getting blown up of how much I have been thinking on possible ways to make him more effective.

Maybe Chris can work fine with Wright and his Machine Gun assist.

I am thinking of a team consisting of Trish, PW, Chris might work.

Well going back to study room

Put together a little something something for your viewing pleasure.

Tron is technically invincible after landing her Hyper if I remember correctly… I figured if anyone could find some vulnerability it would be her.

was in a lobby earlier today with some guy that kept saying phoenix wright shouldn’t be in the game and that he just can’t fight…

He can fight.

With the power evidence and truth.

Also he got ran over by car. A bunch of characters in this game would die if they got ran over by a car.

and whenever it was down to just wright
this guy would start saying it’s all over now he doesn’t have his thugs to do the fighting for him(something like that)

Good video, really creative and informative.

Aight y’all, I’ve seen a lot of talk about Wright lately and let me just say a few things.

What Wright is:
-The most difficult character in the game to use. You have to be good to use Wright unless you’re just plain lucky.
-In Turnabout Mode, the closest thing to an instant win button since Vanilla Dark Phoenix.
-One of the game’s best zoners. Projectile lockdown with cell phone = godlike.
-Tremendously underestimated.

What Wright is not:
-A character for derpy players or people who don’t like to think.
-A good idea to use against teleporters.
-The end all answer to winning.

What Wright should do:
-Focus on gathering evidence in Investigation and zoning in Court/Turnabout Mode.
-Be ready to fire off the level 3 at a moment’s notice to punish almost anything.
-Use Maya when at all possible, either as a super, as a shield (he can hide inside of her entirely, lololol), or even as a normal attack to pressure people.
-Take punishes when he can get them, rather than simply gathering evidence when someone is doing something unsafe (like a whiffed super). Gather evidence after getting a knockdown after a basic air series.
-Switch out (safely) ASAP in Turnabout Mode and abuse the assist.

What Wright should not do:
-Blindly rushdown in Turnabout Mode.
-Get too greedy. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. Getting greedy with evidence gathering = risking getting hit = ending up in a bad spot to be pressured. Gather evidence sporadically, don’t go for too many pieces at once.
-Get too eager with the level 3. It’s an insanely powerful tool, but don’t try to beat invincibility with it. You will lose.

UltraDavid, I’m your biggest fan and I love you to death (socute<3), but you and Chen are dead wrong about Wright being useless. Wright is far and away the most difficult character to use. You absolutely have to play a great game, but if you’re good enough, his reward is downright insane. The only times I’ve lost after getting into TM were my own fault for getting too greedy and trying to do too much. If you are good enough at the game, Wright is absolutely insane. People are saying he’s useless, and I’m lolling at them pretty hard. Wright is like Viper: Underestimated early on for being too hard to use, but secretly absolutely amazing.
