OBJECTION! - The Phoenix Wright Thread

I just want to establish that first impressions are more valuable in this than in vanilla because we have greater ideas on the engine and what works and what doesn’t. Naturally though they are still open to change and development.

You can land an objection after abc Maya super. Do a jump objection as soon as PW recovers from Maya super.

The barrier…I feel that it’s going to get worse and worse. What ruins it is Maya not being able to occupy the same space you or your opponent is. Characters like Magneto can keep airdashing and get around her. Maya slide does pretty well against characters that need to approach through the ground.

I want to explain how horrible that lightbulb normal is in trial mode. Of course one would think as the only way to meterless/xfcless way to Object, it’s good. It has horrible horizontal range and it doesn’t it most if not all crouching characters in the game. As in whiff. Saddening.

Current technology isn’t good enough, and players are going to get better and better at fighting him too. Sorry to say, but he needs a lot more development or else he will be horrible. How well does UltraDavid’s Trish strategy workout?

I hope you’re right about that. The difference is that the reason people hated on Spider-Man and She Hulk is that they didn’t stand out, and that their strengths were still done better by a top tier rush down character like Wesker and Wolverine, respectively. However, they were still complete characters that fit the standard formula at first glance, where you land a hit and you determine the best ways to convert that into a full combo. Wright, on the other hand, does not fit any archetype in this game whatsoever. I can’t stress enough how different his normals are from the entire rest of the cast, even weird ones like Shuma or MODOK. He just plain doesn’t fit into this game the way a normal character does, and I sincerely hope that contributes to the extreme learning curve. It is absolutely not like Viper, because Viper’s learning curve is based off the execution requirement of having so many options, while Wright’s learning curve is based off of having no options.

I understand that you see certain ways that Wright can be played, but what I was trying to illustrate in my post is that everything we’ve theorized up until now has been completely useless, and so please brace yourself to be sorely disappointed by any ideas that you may have. I have my fingers crossed that some more time with the game will help formulate some stronger strats (In fact, I know it will), but what I’ve been concerning myself with is that a ceiling for just how effective we can make him is much lower than we’d like.

I think its about time you updated your gif to a NOPE of wright
Man i can’t agree with you more, i know the feeling of ranting i’ve been doing it since day one of me playing this game, I could only hope to be wrong but you know what i’m pretty confident that i’m not to the point that i will shit out my mouth if I am.
Wright vs Wesker Is a joke
Wright vs daunte is a joke [side not i find that his S is is his best normal for it can somewhat blow up dante teleports to hammer, but you’d have to be a fortune teller to see that coming all the time and the timing is stirct has to be on startup of the hammer pretty much useless]
When you’re not playing a teleport character it almost seems as if wright could almost and i stress almostttt work in this game, playing my friends frank west i was able to obatin evidence a decent amount of times and get into turnabout with frank west cart assist and air objection setups.
His projectiles are quit garbage in my opinon once again will get blown up on teleport, honestly they should’ve given one of them the property to backtrack behind and above for telporters give him something.
IMO what he needs to be usable as a character and not as a HSIEN KO
1. Mobility Give him a frank west or she hulk slide of some sort
2. Paperwork or the evidence projectiles need to cover in front / behind you to help against teleporters
3. Make hold it more of a threat maybe ground bounce? i mean the move only takes a real world freaking second to come out why not make it scary and worth something? you have things like haggar pipes that come out and ground bounce
**4.**When he goes into “better” modes don’t nerf him, i’d like to stress just because you collect all the evidence dosen’t gurantee darkside like 5 bar phoenix, fine you don’t want me to still have maya shields in courtroom but give me something to compensate, compensate the OTG that you stole from me by taking away maya,
5. Get rid of that ridiculous invincible assist so you don’t have the grounds to say he’s worth something, and actually make him into a real character i’m not saying he has to be a wesker but damn can we get something other than an assist gimmick?
These are off the top of the heads rants.
in short yes I MAD.

What I dont get is how ANYONE can formulate anything on if hes gonna be good or not? Just because you played with him and did not win a few matches with him doesnt mean hes garbage or will end up garbage. The game is not even out yet and no one has had a chance to even make more than 5 combos for the guy. Most of you already established that hes going to have a huge learning curve because hes such an awkward character. But his turnabout mode makes him very very powerful and even combofiend thinks hes got a lot of potential. You guys are just frustrated because you havent figured him out properly, like what zephill said its gonna be while before we see his true potential. Theres already combo videos of him one shotting most of the cast with his level 3 . Its gonna be a while before people truly utilize his ability’s to get to turnabout mode.

So everyone needs to calm down and turn off those panic buttons and worry about after a few months pass.

And as far as what your complaining about…

1,2. He doesnt need either one of those things. He has maya and assists to help keep him safe. And I am sure he has enough mobility for him to escape if he really needs too. You cant expect to be able to run around as fast as other characters with him otherwise it would be too easy to get evidence when it already is.

  1. It STUNS them. How is a stun not a threat? A stun then a full bounce would completely make the stun pointless in the first place. You can use that time to get evidence.

  2. What are you talking about? I dont understand what you mean at all.

  3. So you complain about him not being good so you want them to remove an amazing quality to him?

Not trying to be rude but dude it seems to me you have no idea what you are doing with him. But hey like I said we will see how it all turns out in the end.

I agree with all of you. It looks stupid how much we have to do to make Wright viable and the worst is that Wright’s normals not only suck but are completely useless against what are supposed to be the overused chars in this game which are all chars that have at least two of these characteristics: swords, teleports, sunglasses. But that’s not enough reason to give up and judge him yet.

Even I am thinking that maybe Wright might not be good enough but hell I still don’t even have the game so that’s why I don’t want to give up yet and I am sure there is somebody that will read this and will laugh at us and will shut our mouths completely.

Remember that Wright is one of the chars more requested so somebody will have enough patience and love to make him broken. I will try to be that guy, maybe yes, maybe no.

You get a few evidences, so if that’s “working” then there you go. The problem is still getting into turnabout, though. This is why I think he might just be a keepaway character who stays in courtroom. That’s why I’m looking more into Dorm-hole/Wright-papers/Doom-missiles. Dorm char kill xx sphere super, tag Wright evidence evidence evidence, play courtroom with hole + missiles assists. Or if no kill, Dorm sphere dhc maya, evidence evidence evidence, courtroom with hole+missiles. If I get turnabout, tag Dorm for Dorm on point with invincible papers + missiles. We’ll see, I just don’t know that getting to turnabout is practical most of the time, might just be a once in 10 matches yay kinda moment.

Its all about turnabout mode in the end. Just need to think of creative ways to get the evidence and even landing an objection is easy from what I seen people say who already have it. Yes rush down characters are gonna be a problem but like a good lawyer theres always a flaw in the witness testimony. So there has to be a way around those types of characters. Getting to turnabout will be hard yes but once you are there its all gravy.

Lol sounds like to me my friend that you don’t have the game and you sound like my former self DENIAL
First this is just my opinion take it how you want it however I see its a running trend on these boards.
And you’re mistaken me and many others have completely formulated what hes about, ASSIST another HSIEN KO oh great.
Its disappointing i don’t want him to be a top tier character i just want him to be good and playable.

  1. I don’t want to be able to run around the map with him i just want to be able to slide out of range of things i’m not asking for a teleport i’m asking for just a little something to help move his ass, his backdash is meh he dosen’t have much going on especially seeing as to how he’s supposed to get away from the enemy and collect evidence… and if he’s not then i would need capcom to call me and explain why his normals are so ass clearly they don’t intend on you hitting the enemy with them. Also i think you missed the point where i said specifically against teleporters maya is free.

  2. Really he dosent? you know kinda like how dooms molecular shield blows up certain teleports and you don’t have to real predict it you can throw it out like a regular projectile and its active enough to catch a teleport, phoenix has nothing like that and seeing as to how he’s not a rush down character i think its only fair to give his projectiles the property i recommended IMO

  3. Stuns… don’t make me laugh you mean after getting 3 of them… hahah and i kid you not idk the facts about it but i think you have a certain time frame to hit 3 to get a stun, i’ve managed to combo getting 3 of them in and i got no stun.

  4. Don’t know how much more simple i could word it investigation mode is supposed to be the bottom tier of the modes from what people have said so why is it that when you move into courtroom after collecting evidence that you have to lose the good things investigation mode gave you something as simple as an OTG. Sure this isnt’ game changing but i’m just stating things that i think would make him An actual usable character

  5. Why? becuase this is their justification for making him so garbage, a cheap as shit invicible assist haggar and tron all over again great! I’m speaking for myself on this one but i would gladly take a usable character over some stupid cheap tactic.

Not trying to be rude either but i’ve played the game for about 3 days straight, i’ve tried everyting that can come to my mind, i don’t doubt the community but i’ll be shocked if they find something that I missed given the time and effort me and serverall others have put into him. I’m a strong believer in

I see. I’m sure you know by now, but if you do a basic LMHS and call Doom during the string, the missiles will otg after the combo and get a guaranteed Objection.

Just want to clarify, Hold It is not hit 3 times and stun. I have hit with over 5 times in matches in a row and it still doesn’t stun. Only stuns in training mode for me. Couldn’t it be counterhit stun X_X.

Anything you guys need me to test while I’m in training?

Well I dont know what more to say to you then. Your right that is totally your opinion. But what I am trying to say is that you are not gonna totally get him in just three days of playing the game. If or if not what you say is true then these are problems that most likely can be solved as time goes by and stick by what I said I feel there are ways around this. But in the end bad or not if someone is good enough with a character then they should be able to win dispite how gimped he is.

OTG TK Maximum Voltage -> Maya’s Hyper -> Objection -> Rape

Round Harvest -> tag in Wright -> pick evidence

Now that I think about it, these two may work better than we think about mmm… I am gonna keep that in mind.

See there you go! Dont think about just the character but take advantage of the games mechanics as well. I have seen people air combo in an objection really easy as well.

Trust me i hope that i am just missing something here and 3 days wasn’t enough time for me to figure things out
but as its looking right now it seems capcom built him all off of that damn assist / turanabout mode… understandable… I guess, the biggest problem with that is i personally don’t respect it hate that kind of gimmick just not for me. Was hoping he’d be fun to play outside of just turnabout. I mean jago called it beofre game came out wright is the character you want to build up then tag him out and assist assist assist, very LAME IMO.

TLDR
seems like capcom aimed for him to be and assist god and no fun outside of his other modes IMO. Those kind of gimmicks i find hard to respect and seems like he may just not be for me if thats the case.

Lol getting an objection once you land a hit … easy as pie
Getting the hit… not so much
big problem is hitting the opponent his normals are horrible in every shape and form start up to hitbox issues.
I myself have about… hmm 5 combos on hand that can get me into objection mode, phoenix wright is a god in the training room
in a match well lol i’ve yet to see his potential maybe he needs a pair of glasses to take off.

I don’t see the problem with him being just assist though. Think of it like dark pheonix you save her typically for last. So wouldnt you do the same for wright? So you can get the most of turnabout mode and clean up whose left? I was always thinking of just saving him for last anyhow because of X factor (Once hes in turnabout).

Get evidence > Courtroom mode > Tag him out > Air combo him in > Once hes out there use Objection.

It shouldnt be that hard to land it that way.

Now that’s a shame because I’ve thrown away countless pairs of glasses. Didn’t know I had to put them on then take them off…

It’s funny but the guide says the st. L is a good anti air. Maybe we are really missing something

I love the fact that switching the language to Japanese changes the Objection!, Hold it! and Take that! text bubbles to the 異義あり!, 待った!, and くらえ! ones.

I never really expected it for some reason.
