OBJECTION! - The Phoenix Wright Thread

I’m still concerned about how he will deal with teleporters and people camping him out. I really want to like him.

Is his level 3 fast enough to punish an air dash?

How the hell does he get in when he’s not in turnabout mode?

his zoning with the proper pieces of evidence seems pretty good, and the hitbox on ‘objection’ is enormous. You probably mostly harass people with obnoxious projectiles and try to get a counterhit objection when they try to dodge him.

Teleporters… I admit I don’t know, but the guy needs a weakness :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, jumping finger+ long range low assist = 3/4 screen unblockable into groundbounce combo.

Yes.

You make it sound like they’ll just land right in the Objection when dodging the evidence fireballs.

Uh, shitty mobility and subpar normals?

I was hoping he would go into a bit more detail on effective assists for him like he kinda did with the Strider/Hawkeye video, instead of basically doing a Max version of the Seth overview. But yeah, still neat tho. And I’m still pretty confident about Wright.

dude that one guy already explained to you that his super is 0 frames and what it means…jog the brain a bit mate

To me it confirmed that he is being overhyped abit. I dont think he will be OP, but there is potential for him to be a rewarding character if you put in work. Poor normals and poor mobility are going to be hard enough to overcome but he has 3 random factors(search evidence, types of evidence, hold it?) that will make things that much more inconsistent. With some luck he can get 3 pieces of good evidence very fast that have good projectiles attached to them and play a nice zoning game to force a mistake and hopefully combo into objection. That will probably be the realistic target gameplan for PW. People will respect turnabout mode too much to let him hit that easily. Plus, if he does hit objection! without TODing the character, I dont see anything that will stop people from laming out until hes back at square one. Nevermind that with this ideal scenario, you kill one character and have to roll the dice again for the next after turnabout wears off. I wish PW had some sort of aerial special or could use evidence in the air. His approach seems limited since he has low mobility and is almost entirely ground based.

Now, it was just a short intro video, so the effectiveness of his moves/normals has yet to be seen in relation to the rest of the cast. If PW has a reliable way or assist to get in and land objection consistently, he is gonna beast. Lets hope that is possible. We also dont know the numbers on his projectiles and moves like startup, durability and recovery which is really important. Just going to have to wait a bit longer to see how PW really fairs against rushdown/teleporters/zoning

Funnily enough, I think Wright has the longest range low assist. Team of ONE!

 For everyone concerned about teleporters, please grab an assist that helps with that issue.

It’s quite clear he won’t readily be able to deal with really good teleports outside of throwing or airthrowing on reaction.

For the kids worrying about OP lawyers, please realize Turnabout only gets reached (very much like in the games) by the opponent making a mistake. You will either get baited into it or opened up and then get comboed into it. It’s not like he gets to body you in court by just getting hit or something, so don’t worry so much.

For the kids worrying about UP Turnabout mode, please realize that Turnabout is just fine. Don’t focus so much on the fingers. Yes, they’re good. They’re supposed to be. Most (not all) people are forgetting, though, about how Turnabout makes everything else about him much much better. While your goal would be the easy mode combos into level 3, don’t forget he does have OTHER moves and various ways to finish off an opponent; fingers into level 3 is just a tactic to fear and not his only gameplan.

Investigative mode is pretty lackluster, but that’s fine because you get out of it pretty quickly.

Courtroom mode is actually what interests me the most. This mode will be what most of his matchups are based around, I think…not only because you will spend the most time in this mode, but also because it’s his least straight-forward while also having a diverse (and variable, with evidence) moveset.

Turnabout mode is fantastic, but people need to remember it’s pretty much another install super. You basically get buffs for your allotted amount of time and you have to do something with it. Same with Rimoukon, Berserker Charge, and others like King’s Armor. Devil Trigger is kinda cheating, but it’s whatever. That being said, just keep in mind that Turnabout is not a license to open someone up whereas Phoenix should have been unable to do that before the activation; just like other install supers don’t guarantee an easier time against good blocks, Turnabout won’t either. In the same vein, that also should not make it “worrysome (for Phoenix),” since other installs operate under the same reasoning. Just because people will run away doesn’t make it bad. I don’t know too many who people get into the fray and mash stuff out once Wolverine is installed or when Dante is installed, so don’t think so hard about it.

I’m particularly interested to see what Phoenix can do with that tripping overhead. Seems like he’ll have the standard amazing jump-in plus low assist stuff, though, which is cool.

Kinda wish Max had gone over his normals in-depth, but I can see there being either too much or not enough to say about them.

QFT.

I think we need more match videos of Wright (played by people who’ve spent more time with him than just ten minutes at NYCC) in order to better gauge his viability.

Every new thing I see makes me more hyped for Wright

I’ve decided that the #1 thing that I want with Phoenix Wright is an XF Press the Witness loop. That would probably be the most salt-inducing thing in the entire game.

“Man or Demon. All are equal under the law” Phoenix Wright intro vs Firebrand (maybe against Akuma/Vergil or other characters?)

I’m starting to have doubts about Wright on point and thinking that it would be better to just DHC him in so he gets more time to collect evidence and possibly get out of Investigation Mode quickly.

Eh, Wright is going to want that meter, hence why I’ve been reluctant on pairing him up with meter-hungry characters like Vergil or Viper. Meter building overall has been nerfed since the last game so I’m keeping him on point. Not to mention, his hypers leave him vulnerable.

 Phoenix lookin pretty damn hype on these French preview videos~

Two words:

HOLY SH*T

Have to say, though, Ghost Rider looks like one of PW’s hardest matchups already.

It also looks like one of his greatest team ups. Check out those nasty setups, the ninth video is hilarious.

Ghost Rider + Wright = BFF?

I like that Missile still comes out even if Phoenix gets hit during his assist. =)

EDIT: And from what I can see, it went through both Strider’s robot animal super and Maximum Vergil. O_O

EDIT2: I think I understand how Maya’s barrier works. She can take up to 4 hits of any move, no matter how strong it is. After the 4th hit, she gets blown back.

EDIT3: Never mind on the Maya barrier thing. I saw her take quite a few bullets from Deadpool.

i like this post very much! hopefully i can luck out on my random team synergy like my team in vanilla.
