OBJECTION! - The Phoenix Wright Thread

PW seems like he is a really good character in his Second and third modes which are very easy to get access to. I dont mean kind of good I mean really really good … Capcom kills me with these oddities. Phoenix is too strong… oh thats because shes a female telekenetic lets make a male phoenix that is a lawyer to take her spot.

Like I said, Capcom has a terrible record with these gimmick characters. They’re always either too strong (the other Phoenix) or the gimmick is kind of crippling (Arthur armor break).

Right now PW is looking a bit on the strong side though.

Yes he is the Finger of doom is ridiculous and leads into an automatic 600k or more loss… thats a bit nuts. Then I find out this fool has the best tracking fireball in the game… isnt that what they said was one of the problems with phoenix?

Woah, really? I didn’t notice a tracking fireball…

Its totally a blue autolock (or whatever dante’s is called) that doesn’t take charging. Think its really better than Denakk though (which is the other super-similar move)?

Yea its 3 long ass beams that track you like an ex girl friend through a night club.

What’s wrong with Wright being good? I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’d rather he be good than bad tbh.

I’m guessing you all were watching that player doing work at NYCC with Doom Missiles?

Looks like Seth was just being sloppy with that Stance Cancel OTG with Nightmare Judge in his demo (saw the NYCC player do it after an extended combo).

There’s good and good y’know?

Him being good isn’t bad in of itself, but ya sometimes wish capcom would just quit trying for whacky and weird. It’s not their kettle of fish.

I think it’s more about his potential to be completely retarded than him being good.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with him being good at all but it seems they may have over done it yet again… that Maya Shield has Ridiculous durability … it is excessively easy to collect evidence to get to his more powerful stages and they are seemingly to powerful for the ease at which they are attained. Collecting evidence even with bad luck takes all of 3 seconds as witnessed at NYCC (During which time maya keeps you out pretty easily) … Capcom just does not seem to get gimmick characters and needs to stick with what they are good at. All dude did was Hidden Missiles + Maya which basically made an impervious wall while he took his 1-3 seconds to gather then went into hyper super lawyer mode. Am I upset about him being in the game Not at all do I think his design is a bit questionable? at first look yes but I will wait to see further proof before I shout “OMG another S tier gimmick character.”

Wish I could double like this… I used way too many words and you hit the nail on the head.

Dunno, sure stuff seems retarded now, but so did Lv. 3 XF Chun in the Vanilla prerelease. It’s definitely possible for Wright to be retarded good, but I think it’s too early to tell right now.

Has the NYCC player even played against someone good (I missed the last bit of the stream)? It’s entirely possible that his opponents simply didn’t know how to deal with Wright (obviously the other guy practiced with him a bit).

And we all know how long Doom assist stays out. If Maya doesn’t block supers, couldn’t he be blown up? But I somewhat agree, we need to see more until we decide if Wright is too good (are his ‘Courtroom’ projectiles that good?)…

well naturally it could go either way. Evidence collection does seem absurdly easy right now. I kind of expect it to be ‘tuned’.

Edit: If I were to tune it, I’d just make a really high rate of bad evidence. Considering how quickly you can chuck it and collect more it shouldn’t make it too onerous. Messing with the actually collection move would almost certainly make him suck.

Man they are easily the best projectiles in the game… Watch the stream He has one that is a single ball that arcs up then falls down which he can have on screen at the same time as his 3 beam tracking projectile … Its pretty scary. With Pre release Vanilla we had no idea how things would work now we have a pretty good idea whats what within this game … like I said in original post not gonna scream the sky is falling but Im not leaving the house without my umbrella.

Edited to add its not a slow tracking projectile like Phoenix errr Jean its fast and turned around to follow when leaped over… There was one spot where the PW player jumped and threw the triple tracking beams then attacked low and the beam crossed him up from behind… im sure it will be archived shortly.

Stream just got archived, so I’m gonna have a look myself.

(For the interested, at around 41:53 shows Wright’s Finger of Doom doing chip)

Edit: Were you referring to the projectiles that stay on screen a bit and then lunge towards them?

And his Finger of Doom is an overhead?! :badboy:

Thanks for that I will see if i can find what concerns me and time stamp it.

Around 1:15:00 on part 2 is NYCC Wright (I’m calling him that from now on). I saw those projectiles I think you were referring to. I think the main concern I can see is the “lucky” chance he has of getting good evidence.

It’s still entirely possible when the game drops that this is something he actually needs though (Vergil/Strider anyone?)…

Oh, and I think I saw Sentinel boot Maya off screen. Does Maya have some armor? Or does she disappear after tanking a certain amount of damage?

Given that Sentinel S. is one hit, it must be a certain amount of health. And it was definitely her getting kicked, not just the move running out. It’ll be pretty interesting if you can do that to all of the Maya moves (her trying to plow through proton Cannon would be EPIC)

Alright after watching the rest of what I missed; I’m certain that the players simply didn’t know how to combat Wright. Several of them were NOT using assists to cover their attacks, the Ghost Rider was doing random supers and the player got hampered by Maya alone. That Sentinel player should have killed Wright with a super after Rocket Punch. Zero player didn’t even charge buster… :wasted:

I personally feel that a decent Magneto may still tear him apart…
