OBJECTION! - The Phoenix Wright Thread

Ah crap, I’m an idiot. I was just looking through that walkthrough with Seth again (the one that Russell posted) and it seems like he does keep his evidence when he misses an Objection (at around the 6:40 mark). In that case it seems like he only loses evidence when the Objection is blocked.

Sorry for the mistaken judgement a few pages back.

For those of you that missed S-Kill’s second demo of Phoenix Wright/Nova, that part just got archived:

Starts at around 23 minutes, here’s a list of highlights:
25:11 shows him canceling stance change into OTG super, but it takes Seth ALOT of tries to do this and the combo was just started with S! Either he was a bit sloppy, or it has strict timing, or it might not be all that practical…:frowning:

27:50 “Maya is just a special”, as in, we can call her and an assist at the same time. I think most of us already knew this though…

31:25 [In response to the question I asked him] “Can Phoenix wavedash? Yes! Phoenix can wavedash”

33:00 We get different normals in courtroom mode. (“Hold It!” & a jump cancel-able normal of Phoenix taking out a piece of paper and freaking out. The move knocks them airborne.) Seth struggles a bit to get a relaunch off this normal in the corner…

41:00 shows Phoenix getting the corner jump cancel combo on Nemesis, canceling into Maya bitch fit super, then launching again after. The combo seems to be either easier, or only possible on average->large characters.

41:40. We have access to Maya super in both Investigation and Courtroom phases!

42:24 Phoenix combos into Maya bitch fit super, into “Objection!” into Finger Wallbounce. Phoenix can solo combo into/out of Objection!

42:48 Shows the damage one Finger Poke + Lvl3 does to Thor…

I want to think that he isn’t, but I’m sure someone can come up with a convincing argument saying that he is.

+1

Wow, I posted something like this a few pages back, although it was a lot shorter. Well said.

As for him being gimmicky garbage, didn’t people say something similar when Jean’s health and her Dark Phoenix form was revealed, something like “Oh you need 5 whole bars and she dies so quickly there’s no way you’ll ever be able to go DF in a high-level match.” I truly think someone (Combofiend?) will find something so cheap that Wrighto will demand attention from top-level players. Fingers crossed.

I also thought of something: can Wright move when Maya comes in for the slide? Like can Wright create unblockable setups by himself? Cuz that would be sick.

Heh. Thank you. As far as the Maya slide goes, I don’t know. What I do know is I wish I could hit her. No, not in that sense; I mean I wish the player could strike and inflict damage upon Maya. She comes out to do whatever, and, “Reaaaallll, Megabuster!!!11one” teaches her a lesson.

Wright recovers before Maya is finished, yes, but I don’t think he’ll have the time to do a high attack after. BUT, he can call an assist at the same time.

Maya + Demon Flip/Burning Kick/Iron Fist Axe Kick assists = Distant Unblockables? (I don’t think you’d land this more than once though)

Minor thing I noticed on stream, but ‘Finger of Doom’ does chip damage. :clapdos:

Poor “you can just block when Wright is in his Turnabout mode” guys.

Wright is looking better and better.

Wow I was wondering if this would happen, but I thought it’d be too good to be true.

Wright is going to OWN!

It’s chip damage, it’s not like the finger is unblockable. Unless it does massive amounts of chip, people blocking against Turnabout Wright could still be a problem.

I’m excited for Phoenix Wright, too, but let’s try to be realistic about what he can and what he cannot do.

That never stopped people from complaining about Dark Phoenix’s chip damage on her normals, though. With the amount of damage Phoenix does per finger point, it looks pretty threatening if it’s spammable.

Hm, I wonder if it can be physical countered…

Considering that a bunch of moves with detached hitboxes are physical counter-able (Sent/Tron’s normals, Doom’s lvl3 etc), I think that’s a safe assumption…

I like the finger of Death, quick question though. Did anyone get how much unscaled damage the lvl 3 on lvl 3 XF can do? From what I’ve learned, it’s pratically a gravity squeeze, but I can’t find any videos with actual damage taken.

It does 600k out of XF, so in XF…

well lets just say, ‘it does enough’

It helps to know anyway, mostly to see if it can flat out one shot a full health Hulk. That would be fantastic, but my estimate is around 850,000, maybe 900,000

You’re comparing Wright with Dark Phoenix?

First of all, Wright doesn’t have the mobility to get in and start chipping like Dark Phoenix does.
Second of all, the pointer finger isn’t rapidly spammable like D. Phoenix’s feathers. You’re not going to lock down anyone with it unless you have the right assists.
Finally, the finger doesn’t have the ridiculousness of the feathers (as in, fingers don’t go flying around everywhere in all directions in Turnabout mode).

As long as Wright has three meters and Turnabout stocked when taking vanilla Phoenix down, Dark Phoenix shouldn’t be much of a problem. That Level 3 is going to cripple her. Naturally there’s the possibility of DP turtling but wouldn’t it be possible to create an unblockable setup with assists if he has a pointer finger variant hitting low? Either way, she’s going to have to move.

EDIT: Oh whoops, thought you were talking about how Wright would go up against DP. My bad.

Depends on what his power boost in XFactor is. If it’s x1.5 it’ll do 900k; x2.0, 1.2 mil etc.

Actually, I think we should consider the possibility that Capcom may give Wright a shitty (as in Vanilla Ammy shitty) XFactor boost because of XF + Turnabout mode…:bluu:

X-Factor is still normalized isn’t it?

Also, Maximilian should probably be asked about the power boost in X-Factor since he has the game.

oh to answer another question, in stream did I just see Sentinel giving Maya the Boot?

Edit: Also seems a bit TOO likely to get all good evidence immediately right now. I guess its good for him, but…
