Hm, I’ve been wondering something. If you hit a launcher on someone then jump-cancel into the judge super, will that leave Phoenix enough time to get up and do the Maya OTG (or maybe another judge super)?
Someone test that tomorrow!
EDIT: Oh yeah, I’d like to know if the stance change from Investigation Mode to Courtroom Mode is super-cancelable.
I think it’s been stated over and over that Turnabout mode is amazing, but I’m wondering if we’re overestimating it a bit. It really seems like the only buff he gets is godlike range and damage on his normals, but what about landing that first hit? Is that really gonna help open people up? It honestly looks like Haggar pipe, all I can think of doing is jumping at them and using the finger over and over until one lands. There’s no mixup to it and he doesn’t magically get an airdash or anything to make him a bigger threat besides just having a long-reaching normal. All your opponent has to do is block, because from full screen they don’t even have to worry about getting thrown. And when one would fight Haggar, there would often be reasons to attack him (Get rid of his assist, finish the anchor off, etc) but with Wright there is virtually no downside to waiting until he reverts to his weaker form, except for maybe timeout.
Yeah but we cant tell how good/bad it is because we dont have the game. Even so, he can combo off his ground throw in the corner with Maya in Investigation mode so I see no reason why he wouldn’t be able to do a lvl3 right after a ground throw (since it can OTG). His air throw may last long enough to combo off of as well but the bottom line is we wont know until the game comes out because even at NYCC, its not like someone is gonna let you pratice PW the whole match (unless you get paired with a very friendly person).
MORE NOTES: -OBJECTION! does not make you lose all your items if it whiffs -there ARE different combinations of good evidence. Still not able to tell if it changes every match or not.
I was able to get some time with Wright at Comic-Con yesterday, and I can more or less confirm what Kaiten said. The only time I really ran into a problem with him was when I was too focused on getting evidence to pay attention to the match flow.
We’ve already seen how quickly proper evidence can be gathered. While it may be a bit early to tell for sure, I think it is extremely possible that Wright could conceivably by top tier in the end. Can you imagine if someone like Justin Wong picks him up with that kind of damage potential? Yikes.
He could potentially be top tier in the hands of someone with good luck. Basically all he needs to do is go BLINGBLINGBLING omg I got lucky and got all 3 clues right away! Oops, I landed an objection. Now you’re dead and I’m going to chip your teammate half way to death before this thing runs out!
I really think him being great or just good will come down to how can he combo into Objection without an assist? Hnngh.
I’ve been thinking about that S-Kill combo, since he managed to do 4 bars without even X-Factoring or Assisting, Objection is probably combo-able off of the Maya Hyper, or Wright is able to use the Maya Hyper in his Turnabout Mode as well. I hope the former was what he used though, because if that’s the case it’s still possible to combo out of it in one way or another.
Considering the ratio of evidence picking, I’d say a probable strategy would be to pluck 3 pieces of evidence immediately once the match starts, switch to Court Mode and then hold against the opposing force with the amount of good evidence you have at hand. Once you’ve spaced them off, switch back to Investigative Mode, dump the bad evidence and re-pluck again. From his current looks the mix-ups might be a problem but since no one really knows how to play him yet, perhaps he’s got more tricks up his sleeve other than being a one-trick pony, and his keep-away looks pretty promising. His backdash alone puts him way above the likes of Arthur.
Yes Maya does give Wright a comboable self otg in the corner, it is also combo able after a throw in the corner.
I do not think it is possible to use Maya in the pursuit (turnabout) mode, though you can use the judge’s gavel but can’t combo after it with Wright.
And yes I do believe that you can combo after after Maya’s windmill punch in the corner which would explain where the level 1 hyper came from.
Therefore I believe that the combo used moved the opponent to the corner and likely would have gone something like this:
A ground magic series into Maya windmill hyper followed by Wright’s objection, standing H into jumping H causing ground bounce, standing H into crouching H followed into level 3 for approx 1.2million damage.
This is just speculation so feel free to correct any inaccuracies here.
Seth Killian himself said that Wright was either broken, or decent so I guess it’s mainly down to the community and how dirty we can make him, or if we find tech that breaks him.
Is “Get em Missile!” an assist only attack? I haven’t seen it done while he’s on point.
And does Paperwork assist get buffed after you transform into Turnabout mode? I’m assumming Paper work is the move where he throws a bunch of papers at you, and it covers a good part of the screen, and I saw him do something familiar to it in Turnabout mode.
Also, does his level 3 track your opponent like Gravity Sqeeze(EX: LMHS, jump cancel Level 3)? If so, then zoners have to not do anything and run until Turnabout mode is over and with some assists, that will prolly be a little hard for them(Bolts of Balthack, Vajra, Hidden Missiles, Cold Shots, etc.)
I plan on using Wright on point, with Hawkeye backing him up with Kamikaze shot assist, and maybe Strider for Level 3 XF+Orbs/Ragnarok and Vajra assist(Im prolly spelling that wrong). Objection Overruled seems like his best combo using level 1 for my team since I can do Super Scattered Shot after the gavel, or safe tag Strider with Orbs. Maya hissy fit lets him collect evidence pretty easily(I heard Wright recovers at some point while she’s attacking the opponent) and I think he wont have that hard of time combo-ing into Objection! with all these otg assists in the game. And, I heard Press the Witness have some special attribute to it(Soft Knockdown/Armor/Invul). I would like some confirmation of that rumor.
Maybe it’s just sleep deprivation, but I notice a lot of talk about how it’ll be hard to get a decent combo going to finish with Conviction and actually land that 600k. I also notice his assists are both pretty good and get even better in Turnabout.
I suddenly get the feeling we’re supposed to use Wright’s assists to get the mixups with someone else, throw a hyper, and DHC into Conviction.
Even Tasky’s basic ground B&B ending with a DHC into Conviction – without even going as far as launcher, just papersmack assist -> cr.LMH Swing MM Swing Hyper dhc Conviction – seems like it’d be a kill on pretty much anyone, and an easy way to get it done.
Maybe I’m just completely trashed after 7 hours of ranked (and randomly I guess being challenged to an FT10, which I won with 3x randoms) though.
Oh and I forgot to say. To move between investigation and court stances for those that don’t know, 22S. Fast, may not be punishable at a decent distance?
Wright has frame advantage (on hit or block) with hissy fit super, so I guess you could burn the meter to buy you some time for collecting evidence. though with pushblock I wonder if it’s like what happens if you pushblock Trish’s Round Harvest while she’s on point or if Maya is considered an assist and Nick himself isn’t affected.
Press the witness is soft knockdown, but I dunno about the armor/invul part.
The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a Haggar/Wright team. Of course it depends on just how much invincibility Lariat assist is losing, but that thing stays out forever for evidence gathering. As an added bonus, Missile assist will lead to easy jumping pipe unblockable setups when Haggar is on point. All you need then is a long-range lockdown assist with a strong level 3 XF (I’m thinking Strange, Bolts of Balthakk), and you’re set. Just gotta figure out exactly how that Judge hyper works in a DHC situation.
So now if any of you field a Haggar - α/Wright - γ/Strange - γ team you’re really just trying to be super smart and handsome like me.
I dunno if anyone else noticed this but Maya is actually hittable during the shield assist, though she doesn’t sustain any damage at all. apparently Iron Man is free to teenage spirit mediums.
turnabout seems to buff his Paperwork special. more paper flies out, thus covering a wider arc and presumably deals more damage.
Cosign. As soon as the PW video dropped, I knew this team would work on paper as well. However, Chaos Dimension will always be Shuma’s best hyper, simply because you can combo into it for free or simply put the person in a blocking situation and grab him for free damage.
