Oakland 3s, SSFIV, MvC2 and much more

EDIT I’m ready to get things started, I just need a venue to host this event at. If anyone in the community in the Oakland area has a space available or knows of a space please let me know! Ideally I’d like to set something up where people can just show up as they like without having to pay an entry fee. However if I have to rent space, a fee might be unavoidable. Please let me know!** EDIT**

So I’ve been trying to track some place or people down interested in having a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly casuals gathering for fighting games in general. I’m primarily interested in people who want to play 3s and Super IV, but I have a ton more console fighters dying to get off the shelf. It would be nice to have a gathering where people can train and get better at their favorite fighting games despite them being actively played or not.

Here’s a list of games I can support with at least 2 controllers, with fight sticks for a couple consoles:

SNES (only controllers)
Street Fighter II/Turbo/Super II

Genesis (only controllers)
Samurai Showdown

PSX (only controlelrs)
Street Fighter Collection (with Alpha 2 Gold)
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Bushido Blade 1, 2
Pocket Fighter

Saturn (only controllers, but I’m trying to track down a set of sticks and more games)
Virtua Fighter 2
Vampire Savior (being shipped)

PS2 (1 stick)
Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
Capcom vs. SNK 2

Dreamcast (1 stick)
Street Fighter III Double Impact
Street Fighter III 3rd Strike
King of Fighters '98
Marvel Vs. Capcom
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
EDIT Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure EDIT

Gamecube (only controllers)
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Soul Calibur II

Wii (1 stick)
Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom
Super Smash Bros. Brawl

PS3 (2 sticks)
Super Street Fighter IV
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

I would absolutely love to lug my equipment and these games to someone’s house or some kind of venue to play them! I’ve been dying to get good at 3rd Strike for ages now but have no interested parties to train with, not to mention all of these other awesome fighters. My apologies if this is a redundant thread, I’m just not sure where all the fighting game enthusiasts are in Oakland!

Thanks!

bushido blade! fuck yea!!!

I work in Oakland but live in Berkeley… How close to BART are you?

I’d be interested in some ssf4. Only issue for me is that I’m leaving on a trip July 5th and will be gone for a month

an Oakland thread… very nice

I may be interested. I live out in Hollister, however, I make it out to Oakland on a regular basis.

also, just tossing this out there, getting one or two MC Cthulhu based sticks with RJ-45 jacks could solve your ‘controller only’ issue for a bunch of those systems.

I’m close to BART, just need to know which station to stop at. I have access to a car as well, so transportation isn’t an issue for me, just a space to play these games.

I’m trying to find some kind of venue where people can just show up on a certain day and get in a ton of matches on any of these games that don’t get played very often anymore…

I’d be open to trying one of those sticks, I just have a personal stigma about 3rd party hardware for old consoles… It’s weird, but I like getting Hori or something of equal quality. Before I did research on sticks I bought some really crappy 3rd party hardware (which is why I was so hesitant to get the new Madcatz sticks, their 15th anniversary stick was garbage), but that’s just personal preference. For a lot of those games I’m not opposed to playing on a controller, games that require a little more technical finesse I prefer to play on a stick.

I’d love to play 3s, SSF4, SSBM, CvS2, and MvC/2. I’m about 30 min away from Oakland, so just let me know when you’re having a session.

which bart station in oakland you listed a lot of fun stuff but mainly SSF4 and when is the meeting i’m gonna need bart and bus fare = (

its about time we got an oakland thread! there was a ssf4 tournament at san antonio recreational center in oakland a few weeks back. if u want i can contact the tournament organizer if we can use that place for space. the center is not very big but its a decent size.

Finally! A city not that far from where I live.

I’m down for SSF4, Melee, Brawl, and TvC. Do you have a classic controller for the Wii because I play TvC with it.

I’m in Oakland this weekend, near the Fruitvale Bart. I’m down to play ST, and maybe some SSF4.

i want in… wass gud da randumguy is bak… i ply almost everything on dat long ass list so wass gud im dwn to sess nd burn it dwn 4 da gamers dat need 2 POWER UP:rock: hit me up 510-776-1750

I’m glad so many Oaklanders are ready to fight, the main problem is that I don’t have a space to set this up at… I’m trying to locate something where people wouldn’t have to pay and could just come and go as they pleased but that kind of venue is difficult to find.

Ideally I’d like to set something up that’s just a fun space for people to learn and train. I might be able to set something up in the store I work at, but space is limited there… More soon.

theres a guy i know with space. ill contact him as soon as i see him on facebook.

I got an update!

A friend of mine has space available at the San Antonio Recreational Center in Oakland.
It will be free AT FIRST(90% sure first gathering will be free). But the director of the center is going to charge people after a while. From what my friend told me, it takes $15 to rent out the space for 1 hour. Yes yes yes i know paying sucks. If it was me, I would give u guys the space free of charge. But if everyone here chips in $5, we can rent the space for at least 5 hrs (i can invite a few friends also).

How many people went to that “free tournament” last time? I don’t mind chipping in 5 dollars as long as there are good amount of setups.

yea i dnt mind thrown dwn 2 throw dwn lets do this

there was only 6 people at the free tournament
