“The Free Fighter for PlayStation®3 is an arcade-quality fight stick with eight face buttons, and a unique ambidextrous design for right or left-handed use. Compatible with all standard fighting games, the Free Fighter is made with authentic Japanese Sanwa® Denshi arcade-quality parts and includes an expandable base for comfort and security during lap-top use. The Free Fighter includes four fully customizable macro buttons for quick access to combos, as well as two variable speed turbo buttons for fast, slow or user-created tap speed. The Free Fighter will be available at select retail stores nationwide in September 2012 and will retail for an MSRP of $179.99.”
I’m more intrig about the four macro buttons and the “user-created tap speed” turbo. I wonder if people will just use the macros buttons in online matches and they could use the “user-created tap speed” turbo settings for the “double tapping” technique. For the Macro buttons, could you use that to set up plinks instead of rewiring your stick? Just curious ^_^;; This stick probably an instant ban at tournaments?
When the stick is detached, it looks like an Atari stick
The question is, can you add another stick on the other side? Wouldn’t it be great for people who wants dual sticks without doing major moddings? For games like Virtual-On, Geo Wars, Robotron, Karate Champ, etc…
Maybe if they add a piece you can put on the side of the joystick to add some comfort space for the joystick hand, otherwise it will be like playing on one of those SE sticks.
Agreed. Look at the “DP, LS, RS” switch placement and where the left human palm might end up moving right to left… That is a disaster waiting to happen.
“Hey! Why my character stopped moving!” “Why does my chunli only do lighting legs?”
I don’t mind the smaller wrist space as I’m accustom to the VSHG and many JP panels that don’t have massive wrist space My issue is with the price $180 for Nyko’s first real arcade stick outing is a little steep, but I guess the modular detachable stick raises the cost. Maybe the top turbo buttons are more like switches and not buttons to prevent accidental activation. I’m sure people who want to plaster there sticks with anime won’t like this stick.
I like it the more I look at it but the price is a little too high $100 like the Sanwa Exaprice stick I would consider picking it up
I’ll have to see what MarkMan thinks when he picks one up
As ugly as THAT THING is, people would honestly still consider buying it?
Nothing Hori or Mad Catz has designed within the past 7-8 years is as ugly as this! There’s at least some logic behind their designs. The Nyko unit looks like it was slapped together by a Third Grader with ADHD!
“Royds” Stick is right… it looks like it WOULD give you something bad!
Doesn’t help that you can get quality product for roughly half this price… and Nyko doesn’t have the best reputation as an accessory manufacturer. Reviews on its product are all over the place as far as quality is concerned…
My own Nyko experience:
I remember buying a Nyko cooling fan for my PS3 only to find that it did not fit the case! There was a section that would not snap onto the PS3 casing and I was afraid to damage either the console shell or the AC unit. It just kind of hung off a little… Took the unit back and exchanged it for another vendor’s cooling fan. The alternate fan works well to this day after four-and-a-half years…
I like the the gunmetal and black look, you may not be able to put any stupid looking art on it but okay that’s not my bag either way but I don’t $180 like it no way, if Gamestop get them and they go for at least 40% off I would pick one up for a cool little mini stick
Lol at macros. Who would buy a stick with macro functions? Serious players will certainly not, since the stick is likely banned in tournaments. Casual players will not spend $180 on a stick that they will play a few hours a month. Also, the location of the macro buttons are not that easy to access even when you want to use them in a real match (or troll online).
Layout looks un-ergonomic as fuck. There’s a reason why everyone uses either the Vewlix or Sega/Namco layouts, it’s because they work. Also, lack of wrist space if FAIL!
Well, they have little choice for the layouts, since they want it to fit both right and left hand players. But the lack of wrist space is a major problem, especially for a $180 stick.
