Venue from last year, as I remember it, was VERY expensive. I believe $2000 per day (I maybe off on that, but it struck me as a LOT and I have paid a lot for venues before)
I want to put this option out there. How about this.
Run Brents TP6 as its own event, then worry about doing NWM3 possibly at the start of 2011.
There are some ideas that I would like to throw into NWM to make it very national, and not regional.
Also I’ll be real, In my honest opinion, you can’t run a major in one day.
Also
IMO the whole SEA and PDX thing feels a bit unwarranted, since, if we’re talking NWM here, NWM has been in SEA the past two years. I talked to the few seattle guys I had a chance to talk with about it, as far as their opinions on traveling and what not, and the general response I got was 50/50.
So anyways, I think TP6 as its own thing would be good, but then let NWM3 be worked with differently. If you guys want to contact me through email to figure out what I have planned and what I’ve done so far
It was something along those lines I think, and required a 500 dollar deposit that pablo put down. However, they also needed to have everything booked 2 months before the event was going to happen, which I don’t think is an option this year?
I feel like we need to have ONE “major” thing once year within a narrow-ish band (a month or two) run/put together by a team of people such that when people can’t do it one year that other people can step up and make it happen. We don’t get to ECC10 or Texas Showdown 8 or FR13 without that kind of community stepping up.
People want to come to Seattle: it’s a beautiful place. They’ll hear about it, maybe can’t make it out this year, maybe they want to make it out the next. Get the ball rolling annually and this can work well.
I’m totally down to help, I really liked the Canoe Club a lot. Once you guys get a date for this, I’m going to try my best to get some Reno people to come out to this.
just some ideas:
canoe club would be tight because-parking, bar, FOOOOOOOOD, location, dope venue
if its at the canoe club out of towners who fly in can take the lightrail from the airport to downtown or vice versa. taxi is for ballers but not bad if you split it up between a few people
hella hotels downtown and even in seatac. our bus/lightrail system would make it fairly easy to get to the canoe club
shoutoutz to portland, thatd be tight because you niggaz dont charge tax and we could try out that roxy’s spot haha
Regardless of what this event is called, we just want it to happen this summer like all of us had been waiting for. NWM 3 can take place at another date, but like Zach said, 2 majors in a year wouldn’t be too ideal. Maybe 2011 for NWM3? Regardless, the canoe club in mid to late August with SF4 as the main event sounds awesome. 3v3 sf4 sounds even more awesome. Live streams, bar, brawl, and either tekken, HDR or MvC2 would make this event the one we hoped it would be. One day I feel is do able, as long as we start in the morning or just get a massive amount of set ups. Food is easy since it’s in the internarional district. Shopping is pretty dope too with all the import toy stores. If we can get even the smallest sponsorship for this event it’ll give it the serious push to being a major with OOSers and 55,00000 viewers on the stream.
Soon I’ll make a poll for the games, and we’ll figure out a date so we can get the ball rolling and print up some flyers/invite some out of towners. Let’s do this!
Five million five hundred thousand stream viewers ftw riki lol we got this
Just a few quick questions so there’s no misunderstandings later
-
Will there be BBCS, Melty Blood, Guilty Gear, or any of the afore mentioned? If you guys don’t feel like you have setups or people to run it, we can manage.
-
Will any of the above be streamed? If not, do we have permission to bring our own streaming equipment?
AFAIK, this event is still up in the air. I believe the discussion right now should be tourney play 6.
IMHO, Personally I think that NWM3 should be on hold until say January of next year.
Why? For a few reasons,
A) If we want to make it a real major, and we held it between other Majors (like Seasons Beatings, ECT, FR, etc.) It would bring people outside in.
B) Holding NWM3 so soon (by so soon I mean a month from now) It makes it difficult to bring anyone in. Also by making it two days, it lets you do more things. I mean what sounds better, play a game all day long then towards the end get in a super serious time crunch to finish, or don’t finish till 1 or 2 in the morning (See NWM2, Bloody Knuckles, Bragging Rights), OR Play out all the games on day one, finish at a reasonable time (say 11 pm or something) then bring everyone back the next day and run all the finals on the second day.
C) Giving 5 or 6 months time means people from both the inside, and outside, can plan their trips, and also gives us time to venue scout, hype the event more, get more sponsors. I mean how bad ass would it be to be mentioned at one of the already hardcore majors?
I have no problems planning out NWM3 or helping and taking care of a lot of the stuff including Venue scouting, T-shirts and dealing with Sponsors.

Also, in regards to streaming, during any tournament, I follow under the thing of one stream to rule them all. Seeing as how BBCS will be on console in 10 days, there shouldn’t be any problems with streaming from PS3, 360 or PS2. Now in regards to what would be streamed and when,
Ideally all finals would be streamed (Top 8 or Top 4 depending on the game)
As far as pool play goes, thats a different nature of the beast. If you’re also supplying your own net, then go for it, otherwise if it is detrimental to the integrity of the main stream, I would suggest against it.
Also waiting 6 months gives me time to get my gdlk streaming rig up haha
Hmmmmmmm wasnt it you that said we wouldnt have to worry about BB and such people showing up again… cause we were terrible and such… I guess its all good now cause another major event is happening.
as a heads up West Coast Warzone 3 is looking to go down in January now I believe.
In regards to streaming, there should really only be one streaming machine the entire time. But those talks can always happen after you guys get things set up.
Hmm…well I know Seasons Beatings 4 is in Octoberish. If WCW3 is in January and NCR might be towards the end of may hmm…Is anything going down in march?
March sounds dope. We can PR about NWM3 at WCW3.
I most likely won’t be going (actually, the only reason I asked is because I heard different people were running it… but seems like I guessed wrong). However, other people in the scene might be, so I’m asking on behalf of them. If this doesn’t happen, I was going to work on setting up something.
Though… a lot of us went to EVO and did well (considering that Seattle’s now top of BB/GG in the nation, I thought maybe you guys would be more willing to support us… but if I’m wrong, that’s fine too) so, it wouldn’t have to be any time soon.
I’m fine with a one stream machine. But… if there’s going to be a lot of problems with distribution of screen time… uh… I’ll see what can be done.
Okay so I have two ideas for Months November or April.
November is closer and means that the team needs to be cracked down on doing this
April is farther away giving everyone time to practice, everyone time to prepare, and everyone to get money ready for two person, winner take all tournaments
Don’t worry, for TP6, the tournament happening in August at the Canoe Club, we wont be running GG or BB. Super sf is the main event at TP6 and will most likely hog the stream, with hopefully getting Brawl on there as well. Not sure if BB or GG will be at NWM3 either. Not to be a jerk, because I get along with alot of the BB and GG scene, but don’t try to haggle for stream time when A) you’re not even planning on going to the event B) the games you’re talking about might not even be at the event C) there were obvious issues with the stream surrounding the games you’re talking about and some people who play them. When it comes to the stream, the organizers will be the judges of what goes up. Acutally, the stream organizers will be the judge. In any case, Polka has no say.
It’s all about why the stream is running. Honestly I don’t see many BB/GG events posted or anything like that. The reason for streaming is to provide an outlet of competitive play to other areas/regions that want to see it. When it comes to that it comes down to demand. I remember the first dojo stream having 5-15 people max, now it’s well over 200 in some cases and probably will move up.
I’m not shitting on anyone’s scene but what it really comes down to is demand, with demand events can get sponsored for having their names put out there and plugs. Personally I believe with TP6 Brawl would be the main viewer gatherer but at the same time if Seattle does a rare mob up and gather (more than the average 20-35 man tourney) that would be a huge viewer bringer. With NWM3 it’s pretty clear Super will be the main course and would be treated as such. Truly I think it’ll come down to what’s the most successful.
so I just heard back from canoe… no go for weekends in august, ToJ has workshops running all month in prep for theatre season.
sorry guys
HappyStick - No worries. Thanks for the try.
I want to do something big for you all and it helps me also… but I need a small targeted team ASAP to get this planned.
I need 3 or 4 people that can meet at GC and email back and forth in a quick fashion (as in daily emails not once a week) to get this nailed down.
Things I need this team to do with me ASAP is:
1 - Set a Date
2 - Set the game list
3 - Set the entry fee and prize list
4 - Decide on a venue
Trying to plan this whole thing as a community on a message board like this is ineffective, slow and getting us no where.
I need 3 or 4 people who can get on board and help make this happen right away.
Getting my sponsors on board and my support team is something I have to get done this week in order to even have a chance at making a Aug 21/22 date work.
So I would like to propose a meeting at GameClucks on Wednesday at 5pm
This will be a planning session for this event. Whoever wants too can show up, but ultimately we will narrow the scope down to 3 or 4 people to get the event done.
