Just curious, what’s wrong with the venue in last years NWM?
I’ve been in contact with a person at the Hilton in Downtown portland. I talked to dugg at EVO about setting NWM3 up in Portland at a Hotel because I’ll be real. If you have a tournament at a hotel, its A LOT easier to pull out of towners in to the tournament.
So I will be in contact with her tomorrow and try to get an idea as far as fees, something I may consider is possibly moving it to January of February to give it a real major style feel. I want to know what you guys thing of that, pulling in out of towners and everything like that. Thanks!
@Brent- TBH, I think most of us thought you were retired from NWM organization. Hearing your return brings a bright day on the horizon for NWM 3.
I’m on board with the idea to make the tournament a full Tourney play event and have NWM 3 too. If I can keep my cake and eat it too I’m always down. Tourney play presents : North West Hype Fest August 2010(name pending). Games(pending). Prizes(pending). Soon this info will be posted up, when that happens I’ll try to organize the group of people who are willing to help in any way and we’ll start getting small tasks designated for tournament day. For example: Slash or Jodo or both on the stream maybe (since you guys are beasts when it comes to getting a solid stream up) Looks like everyone agrees that the Canoe Club is the spot for a large tournament event. And after Seattle’s performance at Evo, I think we’ll bring in some out of towners.
glad to hear its not best western, that hotel chain is grrrrrrrreasy
check your PMs. :-]
Excellent. Canoe Club.
Sent an email to folks regarding the event and info I’m looking to compile…post all thoughts here?
Canoe Club would be perfect, I just think the set ups should be organized better to maximize space. Hotel option would be good too, to attract out of towners. But which hotel?
Aren’t there more players in Seattle, than Portland? I think we should keep it here in Seattle.
So I have an email out to Patti and Jenn the two women that run Canoe/ToJ.
a couple things to think about would be renting more tables/chairs. we used every flat surface they own for Bloody-Knuckles and there were barely enough chairs for the players with the number of setups we had.
I do not have the projector I used anymore. I picked that up from costco and returned it after BK.
and like preppy, I can handle talks with the venue but would just like to be another warm body available to help out at the event.
Thanks for answering all my q’s on that…
Bowflex do you still have the projector available?
Chris, do you have any fold out tables/chairs we can use from Gameclucks?
Thanks David, that’s all I was asking for. Much appreciated ^^
@Brent - Awesome to see you post!!
Name of Event: I do not care if its TP, NWM, whatever… name is not important, having a solid event, that could turn into something more is what matters. I would “prefer” that TourneyPlay is in it somewhere since I do have a site, a name, a brand and soon (I hope) a West Coast wide league with $100,000 in sponsors, so adding something all new to the mix would just be a pain for me, but do able.
Location: I will check the Canoe Club out, if you all say its good, then I am ok with it. But from a business perspective, I have to sign the deal since my insurance and business license would be on the line.
@ghrog - Got the PM and responded. Best to email me details.
Tables/TVs/Set Ups - I have broke GC down and used all of its equip many times… so this would be no different. I will get a moving truck and move GCs 12 TVs and 6 or so tables.
Date of Event: So I am leaning toward end of Aug being too soon… but with school starting again a week or so after that, not sure we have much choice to maximize the possible attendance. It is just over a month away, so people should be able to get time off from work. Issue is OOSers like LevelUp Series guys from SoCal. I am not sure what their schedule is.
Seattle vs Portland: Seattle this time, from a logistical standpoint. No reason a second one could not be planned for 6 months later in Portland maybe? Do 2 events per year Seattle then Portland or something like that?? I have a meeting thsi Fri with a large sports team in Portland about doing a video game tournament with/for them… so who knows what could happen there.
Can I get a link for the Canoe Club?
EDIT: I found it

EDIT:
chris - we should talk, Canoe is a private club, and as such booking the venue will be much cheaper if I do it. I’m ok with running point on the venue. other then the space and a bartender there isn’t much they provide. but also they are cool with just about anything we would want to do.
For anyone mentioned down below, you all just came to mind in those respective fields, and I would love to have you on board for help with running this event. If not, no sweat at all. =]
Anyone who wants to help please do! Just contact myself and we’ll get you in the loop.
Ideas. Feedback wanted (needed!):
Possible Venues:

**i think that this will be the preferred venue, if they respond positively to David’s message, based on popularity and past success.

Advertising:
Word of Mouth - The best kind, and I know we have folks with decent contacts up here; Cole, Carlos, Eman, MHC, Jared, Tanaka, Mikhail, BFM, Frank, Rob, Stephen, Gimpy, etc… once a date is set if everyone could help we can get word out fairly quickly.
Fliers - Anyone down to make web fliers? We have a site for everything through TP, so just need the art and such?
other?
Bracket Runners:
Going to need volunteers for each tournament, 1 or more, to run the brackets quickly/efficiently. TIO will be the standard used since it’s like 2010, and we do that.
Commentary:
Volunteers. Though in general I think we don’t want just randoms up there.
Frank, Kriang, Tanaka, and other commentators from TW season 1 who did well would be great choices
Thanks!
EDIT:
Yes, please do. We should all try to be as in the loop as we can, the goal is to provide. Thanks for your help Dave!
im down to participate in tw3. i will check back for final dates and locations.
TVC? I have a wii
We play Smash, SSFIV, 3rd Strike, and TvC in Idaho. You can count on two dozen or more people from Idaho making the drive, given enough time to make arrangements.
A regional SSIV 3v3 Exhibition would be interesting as well.
Let’s make this happen. If there’s anything at all I can help with, let me know.
???
I want to strongly reiterate this post and make sure people (read: Dugg, Chris/GC guy and Riki Oh) understand this. I firmly stand for throwing a “TP6” event and support it immensely. However I am a bit confused regarding the discussion of this event. I had the impression that “TP6” should be treated SEPARATELY from NWM3 …was this what you meant Brent?
As I understood it, Brent has plans for NWM3 and throwing “TP6 as NWM3” would be very disrespectful towards his efforts and his intentions for his own production.
I’ve been seeing a lot of talk pretty much stating that “TP6 = NWM3” however I felt as if this post was thrown out the window and not understood. Or maybe I’m the one who has it wrong…either way I’d love to get it cleared up.
HappyStick - No problem. Lets get together and talk about this.
Duggish - Can maybe we get a meeting going about this with the needed ppl? Frank, You, Riki, Me, HappyStick and others that you deem needed?? I am out of this the rest of this week, but back on Monday.
Mickey D - I dont think anyone missed Brent’s point, just the use of words/lack of a new name at this time has everyone referring to it as NWM3 still. So essentially you do not have it wrong, because we have not changed how we are referring to it and we need to do that, but I think everyone understands from Brent post that NWM3 is not to be used.
We need to adjust our wording and drop the NWM3 name as per Brents request.
ugh double post
