Now we have five PS exclusive characters

Good points

Don’t Namco and Sony have a special relationship anyway? If sony are shelling out the big bucks more power to em, better that then some MW3 dlc timed exclusive map pack I won’t use.

I think tournys shouldn’t favour one platform over the other let the organisers decided which will be more beneficial and if you play Pacman in a 360 tourny don’t enter or pick someone else since majority of tournys are on 360 anyway.

I just wonder if 360 got the 5 characters would people be calling for the 360 to be banned?

I’m honestly surprised at the amount vote the “allow characters” option got.

Not in a good way.

I’m guessing it’s from a bunch of armchair “fighters” who’ve never had to deal with logistics issues when running a tournament.

What you’re failing to understand is that the “Tournament Standard” precedent has already been set, and that is to ban console exclusive characters. It’s not an innate right, but anyone that is smart understands the decision.

Also, the Wii comment is really pointless. This is about games that are released on both systems and the content within the games, not the actual systems itself.

Do you know the details? Like how much they paid? It must of been pretty up there.

What if the tournament organizer was already using Xbox 360s? Or did it not occur to you that TOs aren’t made of money? This is why preorder gems should also be banned, since they put a disproportionate pressure on TOs to buy an expensive collector’s edition while supplies last.

The ‘precedent’ to ban 1 console exclusive character in the past may have been ‘set’ in the past. It could be also unset… its not a court of law. That was then. Now we have a game with 5 more characters. Later this year, Capcom could announce SFV, with PS3 getting 10 more characters. What then?

If the games become different enough, you have to ignore the inferior version IMO. People preferred console tournaments to arcade in the SFIV era because the console games had more characters. So its more about where you draw the line; 1 char, 5 chars, 10 chars? For me, 5 characters is like a different game edition, and one that should be favoured.

The gem issue is console independent. Its up to Capcom (or fans to have their voices heard now) to come up with a viable tournament mode. To propose one idea, they could allow multiple account sign in in a VS match, so each person plays on their account, with access to the DLC they have. That is getting OT though.

I’m sorry but people preferred console SF4 because that’s what they could play over here. Tournaments here are on console. It’s not a matter of picking the version with the most characters. Like it has been said before this issue is not up for debate and never will be.

Just thought I’d chime in and mention that my issue with not giving Arcade players this privilege has yet to be explained, but people keep going back to “console exclusives being banned is tournament standard”

But they did NOT ban the console exclusive characters, and still personally invited Arcade-only players to play in the tournaments.

Whoa this section is a lot more retarded than i initially thought. Make Ps3 characters used in tournaments? Ban X360s from tournament play? How many of you guys have had an actual tournament experience outside of watching one from 1000+ miles away? Thank GOD you guys don’t make any important decisions.

And no, we shouldn’t give a fuck about every single shit the Japanese does. If the arcade version of vanilla was the standard in japan, that’s their problem. If they don’t own a console, oh well. Our arcade scene is not that strong to have the entire scene center around it. Our scene is based on consoles, and the Japanese should be aware of that and prepare for these things. Stop making this stupid argument.

How can people say shit like this and not address my point?
WHY ARE THERE DOUBLE STANDARDS IN EXCLUSIVE CHARACTER BANNING?
If you’re going to ban shit to keep an even playing field, you shouldn’t be allowed to adhere to one audience and ignore another.

What if there were 10 PS3 exclusive characters and among them were Ryu, Zangief, Heihachi, and King? Where do you draw the line and make an advantaged version of a game the tournament standard? Or will you always ban console exclusives even if it is half the cast?

Because everything you said makes no sense. We are the American scene, not Japanese. If they come knowing that they are playing on console, they better prepare and not bother showing up. We don’t have a strong enough arcade scene to center around it, but we have consoles, which 100Million people in the states have, how fucking hard is that to understand.

The exclusivity ban is in place to prevent XBOX 360 players who cant afford a PS3 not to be screwed at major events because they dont know how to play against console exclusive characters.

This has been the way its always been, even last year when Kratos was banned. Just because there are more than 1 character doesn’t change the rule.

Evo plays SF on PS3, not 360, when 360 players come knowing that they are playing on PS3, they better prepare and not bother showing up.

Like I said, double standards.

I just have to nominate this for dumbest post of the year already becuase not only are you making stupid what if scenarios (When is Capcom gonna intentionally make the main cast of the game specifically 1 console exclusive?) You are also arguing for 4 joke characters, and one guest character who can never make it to 360 anyway aside from Pac and RockM. If what you said is true, than that is where most people draw the line with this company. Don’t bother deleting the post i have it saved too.

To show you how retarded that post is, i prepared an example.
You: “Wow 3 exclusive characters to one version? Lets play that instead.”

TO “It’s just 2 characters intentionally made to be bad and Master Chief”

You: "But i WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNA play with them"
TO:"Don’t do it at the tournament"
You:"If there were 12 exlusive characters including ryu and Kyo, would you ban them to?"
TO::coffee: …o_O

Its not a good argument AT ALL to be arguing what ifs. Especially extreme ones.

Are you dumb man?: Out of the 1000+ players who attended Evo 2k9 how many do you think only played the Arcade version? Daigo and Dan? And if you think they didn’t have access to the console version than you’re kidding yourself. 2 players, completely comparable to a what 70/30 split in xbox and ps3 players. Smart shit man.

Yo… What? I just explained the WHY the scene does this. There are just as much 360 players as console players in AMERICA. We have a strong console scene in AMERICA. TOs want both PS3 and 360 players (Both of which have a large amount of players) to be on an equal playing field with our strong CONSOLE SCENE IN AMERICA. Because the Japanese refuse to play a version that is largely available to them is not our fault. Because we are in AMERICA WITH ITS WEAK ARCADE SCENE.

Then those 10 characters get banned.

Don’t be silly negative, Daigo and Dan being Japanese arcade only players is completely comparable to the majority of USA SFIV players being on XBOX.
