So if they planned to skip straight to 2012, there wouldn’t have been any AE arcade tournaments? I don’t think that was really the reason.
Sure, go ahead and allow the joke characters. With only half as many people playing the game competitively, the game will die twice as fast and we can all go back to playing decent games.
I don’t get your point, they ran AE tournaments on arcade, in an area that had said arcade machine available to the public there. If anyone traveled to it that is their choice. That’s an arcade tournament within an arcade. Has nothing to do with anything when it comes to console tournaments.
Isn’t it their choice to travel to any tournament? What’s the difference?
i dont understand your post, unless you’re trolling me
are you saying that if the versioin of ae that we got for consoles was 2012 instead of ae, there would have been no ae tournaments at arcades?
i dont even understand what that has to do with the topic at hand. what other version of the game are you supposed to play at an arcade, other than the only one there? nevermind the fact that 2012 was released specifically because of complaints about ae from console users. if your point is what would we have done if a version of a game that was released because of backlash from the community about the preceding version was released, then answer me this: would 2012 have been made without the console version? 2012 is the RESULT of the game being released on console. what you’re saying is: what would we have done if a version of the game that came about specifically because it was released on console came out before the reason it was made?
this is a logical fallacy, and not only that, what does this have to do with a single game with 2 console releases having different exclusive characters on them? a ps3 stream monster scrambling for excuses to use a fucking troll character
if the 3rd paragraph doesn’t make perfect sense, dont worry about it, i had a hard time trying to wrap my head around explaining this to someone because i thought it was obvious
Let’s ignore the cats, as they’re troll characters with tiny hittable areas that might have ended up being banned even if they were on all versions.
You have three viable characters in Mega Fat, Pac-Mok and Cole. If you own a PS3, you’ll be able to play with all three. You’ll be able to invite friends over, show them how cool the characters are, enjoy playing the game, take them online, etc. You will not be allowed to play as them in tournament.
Is that really enough of an issue that you want to make it harder for Xbox 360 owners to compete without dropping a lot of money? I don’t think so. Competition requires standardized rules and a general understanding of equal opportunity.
To close out, nobody at all is stopping anyone who wants to play any of the above three from running their own PS3 exclusive tournaments which allow them. If your local community is happy with it, go ahead.
so if tomorrow capcom announces: “xbox will have marcus fenix, master chief and peter moyneux” the people who voted A think they should be all allowed too, right?
This is what it sounded like you were saying. You said they were playing it at the arcade because it wasn’t out on console yet, as if the only reason they played it was its future console release, and wouldn’t have bothered if that version was never coming to console. I don’t think that’s true, I think they just wanted to hold a tournament for that version.
As for the rest of the post, I don’t really see this as two equivalent versions of the same game. There aren’t “different exclusives” on both consoles. There’s just one with exclusives, and one without. There’s no argument as to which is better. It’s like comparing console SF4 to a cell phone version.
I don’t want to play as the exclusive characters, either, but that doesn’t exclude me from arguing for them. They are part of the game, and I have a strong dislike for removing parts of a game just because people don’t want to deal with them, no matter what those particular elements are.
I voted yes because I want to piss people off with the kitties.
Then I saw there were 40 other votes for yes and the joke imploded.
dumb thread? dumb thread.
the character “exclusives” will be DLC for xbox, i guarantee it.
otherwise we’ll have butt hurt fan boys like the ones in this thread shitting their pants before the game even drops.
as a tournament organizer i can tell you that all the characters must be available - otherwise it’s not a tournament playable game.
it’s a pain in the ass but we gotta do it. sucks.
do you have any idea how many xbox points i had to buy for canada cup 2011? (for example)
marvel, blazblue, mortal kombat (x20 systems)…
that is just one tournament.
that is a SHIT ton of money capcom / microsoft will NOT be passing up.
Three of the 5 will not be DLC because they are exclusive Sony characters!
you suck at reading comprehension. nowhere in my post did i even insinuate that they played on arcade because it was like training wheels for a console release of ae. people played ae because that’s what version was on the machine when they walked into the arcade. generally people want to play the newest available version of a game, and thats what ae was. if your outlet for playing games is at an arcade, and the tournaments you attend are at said arcade, guess what version you’re going to be playing?
again, this has absolutely nothing to do with the topic, i was just pointing out that basically everything you’re saying is rooted in ignorance of how the tournament scene works. and your idea of it not being two equal versions of the same game is totally laughable. OF COURSE ITS THE SAME GAME. thus, when you sit down for tournaments, you need to be at the lowest common denominator, which is the version without exclusives
you dont need to pull a faux-sirlin: preventing people from using console exclusive characters is not removing a part of a game in the sense that people remove everything from smash bros to make it competitive - this is removing marketing junk that’s console-racist to make an even playing field for all tournaments, and to ease the burden on tournament organizers who would otherwise need to pay probably thousands of dollars for no good reason
well in that case the characters will be banned, easy.
/thread
I hope they make Super Street Fighter x Tekken!!!
OK, so that’s not what you meant, but you managed to misread my post in the same way. I don’t think I’m being uneven or sarcastic.
I don’t think it’s like the smash bros sense of removing gameplay systems. It rubs me the wrong way because it feels more like the case where people want to ban a character because they’re too strong. Obviously that’s not what people are saying, but the “unfair advantage, even playing field” is the same core concept, and I don’t think that’s worth removing part of the experience for people who enjoy that part. (Assuming that the exclusive characters are legitimate and not broken in some fundamental way.) Even if it makes more people temporarily happy, that doesn’t make it feel like the correct decision.
Yeah, exclusives are a horrible idea in general and I hate that this is even a conversation. But from a competitive standpoint, that’s just aesthetics - they’re characters with their own gameplay.
The mentality in this thread by 360 owners crying that someone should buy them a PS3 if these characters are legal cracks me up. Did you pay for my extra 360 stick I had to buy so I could play at tournaments too? Didn’t think so.
buying a stick to play at tournaments != tournament organizers buying multiple copies of a console+game just so people can use joke characters
Since cole and Pac-Man are the only 2 who seem to have effective moves(Cole and Pac-Man), I don’t think they should ban the system or the characters.
- Like I said, Pac-Man and cole are the only 2 I could see being used
- If the rest of them are jokes whats the harm with having them in?
- Almost none of the top tourney players use console controllers, so there shouldn’t be any advantages PS3 players would have over 360 players.
- They aren’t hurting anyone so people should stop hating like they aren’t gonna get the game, they know they’re getting it for gameplay and not for whose in it.
I can’t really justify it. The same game with more legitimate characters is a better version of the game. Is the goal of a tournament to create a venue for a better game, or a cheaper one?
(Neither, it’s the one that players want to play. But I think bringing in cost is a bit off topic.)
Ok so u are trolling
Peace out thread
