In this day in age, yes, especially if Capcom hopes to sell to the mainstream. Tekken and Mortal Kombat games are always packed with content and that means more replay value for everyone. Heck, look at Tekken 3 on the PS1 and how many extra game modes that had; its nearly 20 years old and it puts games like MvC3 to shame. The idea that fighting games don’t need content because they are fighting games is a fallacy and it’s really only been true for Capcom fighters, especially in this modern era.
Don’t think it’s better or worse, don’t know how I feel in general about the “modern” approach of UI design, but it’s pretty irrelevant to the overall quality of the game anyway. It kind of reminds me of Smash Bros for some reason though.
This game is everything I hoped it would be and more! After a string of disappointing AAA titles in the last few years and even disappointing fighting gsmes from capcom it seems that the wait for a great game with longevity is finally over.
no i’m not saying they should be just as strong as CC combos. i’m saying once your that close, you should be able to throw to break the opponents defense so they’re scared of it. there are many safe counter hit normals that cancel into safer specials as well and might as well mention block strings that do the same thing. this is a first impression after all and maybe after 6 months to a year i’ll see differently… but maybe not.
Lack of content (holy sh*t its a barren wasteland)
Combos are lackluster
Score/Final Thoughts:
3/10 Don’t waste your money. I would have it at a 5/10 or 6/10 with actual content.
It is no where near as complex as sf4 was and while some people may like it there is no reason Capcom couldn’t have a BIT of complexity balance. Nothing about this game gives me a hype sensation either. 4 had so many options and things to calculate on top of the randomness factor of focus attacks and what not never really preparing you for what was next. 5 fails to be innovative and I believe 4 revolutionized fighting games in a lot of ways and instead of Capcom taking that and progressing from it they took several steps back. I hope the game is improved as I love sf and have over 1600 hours in 4 and a ton of hours in 3s.
It’s gotten better over the last few days, and I don’t understand it happens to me and not to others.
The only things I can think of is that my processor not the recommended Intel i3 but an Intel Q9550 - a quad-core at 2,8 Ghz rather than a dual-core at 3,2 Ghz, and the other thing is that I reside in Europe but selected a different national flag, so I’m wondering if this could cause some network-trouble too.
I’m also unable to “log in” and setup my own username, for some reason.
I’d suggest going to the training lab and reconsider your statement. haven’t played every character yet but several of them have the ability to extend combos by using their vtrigger (ken, ryu, cammy, chun-li, zangief to name a few). yes, the execution overall is easier than in SF4 (which doesn’t mean it is a bad thing) but if you’re going for max damage combos you still need to train muscle memory and timing.
Why do the normals for everyone feel so shitty? Ryu might as well be an amputated baby with how short his limbs actually reach. Walk speeds still feel bad for the most part as well.
Having to fight the AI for 30-50 rounds just to unlock colors is really fucking stupid and unnecessary.
2 player online lobbies are kind of disappointing, considering Capcom is not new to this.
Looks like 7+ years with yet another Street Fighter game I won’t actually find enjoyment in playing. With MKXL, Revelator, KOF14, and Tekken 7 on the horizon I’m going to need to play something I actually find fun.
