The way I pressure chun li when she has no meter, do this after scissor kick combo or any PC ending combo … cr.jab --> st.jab ~ st HK (OS) -->any following combo…
cr jab can beat the chun li wake up regular hazanshu , and the OS is to catch backdasher. So I think chun li have no chance to escape the pressure if she has no meter.
try to focus less unless you expect chun do the cr HK.
I think this match up is quite even if the player is using ultra 2, if he is using ultra 1…oh god…bison will be pressured like crazy corner ( can’t ex PC to escape), and can’t do devil reverse if chun li has ultra.
Yeah I know her close st.hk is a frame trap, but in the perfect world in my head I timed the tech and block properly. I’ve had a go a Chun before I gave up because I couldn’t piano legs.
I don’t know about anyone else but anti-airing him seeemed pretty hard online. cr.HP? st.HK? st.LK? They’re a bit difficult to time and I’m no master at the exact spacing for these especially online.
But the rest, makes sense and I agree with. I always forget about safe jumps, because most of the time I’m playing shotos online and that’s not possible, so I just dash in bait a dp/frame trap/throw situation.
Also, am I only one that forgets to tech techable knockdowns when they’re being rushed down? I’m not really one to press a lot of buttons, but I tend to forget a lot.
Edit: Acutally come to think of it, it was actually pretty hard to land an UKD (throw/sweep) to set up a safe jump. Guess I’ll watch it again later and see.

Most people who regularly post in this thread don’t have the qualifications to critique other people’s play, I can’t critique his matches as I have never played a Makoto player as reputable as VRyu sensei. Until you show some proof of yourself being able to hang with a top player (recognizable by “A” rank or in this case by reputation), show some respect. If you’re going to post poorly thought out critiques and commments without anything to back them, don’t post at all.
If you think he shouldn’t “press buttons” against a top Makoto, then go find VRyu sensei, play him, record it and show us how it’s done. Don’t disrespect another player with your stupidity.
Just ignore him, it really sounds like he doesn’t know Bison frame data.

If Happy Medicine posts a gameplan for playing against Honda, then read it and acknowledge it. Don’t try to refute it with your gameplay experience, as yours doesn’t amount to anything in comparison.

This board really needs a “3 strikes and you’re out” system. So tired of idiots who think they KNOW but they DON’T know.
One of the guys in my scene has a pretty mean Mak and I feel like the whole time I spend fighting him is trying to keep him at poking range. There isn’t really much more you can do in that matchup IMO, St Short to counter dash and that retarded St Strong she has and poke her to death. That’s just fighting my mate too so going toe to toe with VRyu must be fucking terrifying.
I can’t offer you any advice really since you’re much better than me anyway lol.
I tend to throw some pokes against random dashing too, but not like taht. If you analyze correctly, S.LK has a poor chance of stopping dashes. 2 active frames, poor range. Cr.MK has slightly more range and 4 active frames. It’s a much better counterattack. Works against Makoto, Chun pokes, Akuma’s S.HK etc. S.MK has more range and 3 active frames. Makoto will hardly dash on your recovery, which is 14. Cr.MP can work too. 2 active frames only, but 9f recovery and very easy to hitconfirm into S.MK or S.HK.
As for jumps, jump with an objective. What are you jumping over? Fireballs? Long, slow pokes? She doesn’t have anything like that. Her antiair is efficient against Bison, gives her damage opportunity and the chance to start her offensive game, which is her only advantage.
If you want to jump randomly, neutral jump to catch to hayate/dash. Jump foward helps nowhere. If anything, it’s a sign that you’re losing confidence in your ground game.

See, Vryu cancelled Cr.MP into Hayate. While the first poke has been blocked, the special move hasn’t. You weren’t blocking. You tried to jump or press a button. I don’t remember. Makoto has no regular grab game. Cr.teching is nowhere useful. No need to try stuff while she’s hitting. There’s another situation where a close axe kick hit Bison when it shouldn’t.You were attacking. I don’t remember, but I think it was a S.LK. As I said, it’s not a good poke to use. Use another. S.HK would, obviously, hit the axe kick. Mak’sCr.HP beats S.HK, but S.LK is vulnerable to it as well.
There’s not much else to be said. The matchup is really what has been shown in the vids.
ok you dont know makoto, i explain:
1° cr mk is very bad: makoto hitbox is very “up”, so st lk=cr mk in range, if you do cr mk, makoto can instant tsurugi to punish you, she can beat you cr mk with her cr mp and she can attack easy in wiff punish so use cr mk and you are dead
st lk why? you punish all dash, you punish her cr mp and st mp, you stop instant tsurigi and its very very safe! she CANT punish this move so… why dont use it??? see again video, st lk counter hit and punish very good her
if you try cr mp, st mk, st hk, makoto’s cr mp and st mp beat you so forget all normals moves, i only use mk to punish far dash or far move (mk can wiff punis cr mp, loose all time against her st mp)
2° Why jump on makoto?
makoto’s player “pressing button all times” to beat your mk and hk, so you can surprise with jump and offer a good chance to win
Also, dictator jumps works on makoto:
-empty jump beat his shoryu but loose against st mp
-jump hp beat st mp but loose against shoryu
all other makoto AA with mp so i jump a lot in this matchup to wiff punish her but against v ryu, youre right, its not a good idea (you can see on video, emtpy jump works a lot)
But NEVER neutral jump randomly against makoto:
-her HP shoryu punish you very far
-dash and st mp punish you
-U2 punish you
-dash U1 punish you
-her jump mp punish you
any other idea?
3° play v ryu and push button for win, if you dont, you cant stop her dash and tsurigi, trust me
and axe kick beat hk if he delayed it
and NO, CR MP DONT BEAT YOUR st.LK you just have perfect range

Cr.mk is for use outside the range where she can instant ax kick or actually hit you with cr.mp. It’s used if your predicting the lulz worthy forward dash into command throw or at least thats when I use it. Though you are correct in that st.lk would be less risky and would work just as well but personally I’d rather have the damage off a cr.mk xx sk/pc though
makoto’s hitbox is very big so:
you can st lk, st lk, cr mk xx kp
more damage than cr mk kp
