"Now, face the mighty Bison!" - Video Critique Thread

Entered a tournament last week and had to face this Guile:

I feel like I wasn’t on point this day, but oh well. Any critiques would be very appreciated.

I’m not the best critic so bear with me, this is really the first time I’m doing this. Anyhow unto the critique.

First off, you took to the air too much and while it landed you really damaging combos I think you hurt yourself overall since a lot of pressure you tried to create and nurture got diffused by a normal, a sonic boom or the air throw (especially the air throw but that was the Guile’s choice). I think you need to put some work into your ground game and staying on the ground since Bison doesn’t really dominate in the air and most importantly work on your short links. There where a few times when you focused and you dropped the first short after the focus dash or you managed to tag him with a short but couldn’t turn it into a combo. Maybe you could have poked more and got damage off of that and turned that into a bit of a mind game. Either way you need to work on your ground game more.

I also feel you didn’t challenge his booms enough (as hard as it is) with head stomp or empty devil’s reverse or even actually following up with devil’s reverse if you didn’t feel confident in your choice. You could have also attempted to Ultra a sonic boom if you guessed it was coming or you could have tried to react to an EX-Boom (eight more frames to work with than regular boom and the luxury of having the EX sound effect to react to than the sight of the boom coming out). This is a bit minor (second part of the set you didn’t do it as much) but you put a bit too much faith into EX-ing and you didn’t really get punished for it as hard as you really should have but you never got damage from it and put yourself in a bad position either far away from Guile or close enough for him to punish you in some way.

Sorry if the critique is mostly negative but I’m pretty much calling what I’m seeing as best as I can. Let me know what you think of the critique and anyone else you read chime in and put your thoughts into both the match and my assessment of it.

Losers-Finals of a UK Tournament, I face a Dhalsim specialist. I learned alot in this match as I was playing it and 1 frame made all the difference (literally lol).

infexious vs. WU Yota

Interested to here any pointers from on what other methods I could have used to get in? More specifically to respond to a max-range st.lk from Sim.

You played pretty patiently and a lot of your jumps were spaced correctly to make an AA whiff, but he didn’t take the bait most of the time.

A couple things I noticed right off the bat - You should work a bit on your tick throw spacing. A couple of times during that first match you whiffed a tick throw, giving Dhalsim an easy punish. Landing those throws could have easily changed the outcome of these matches, simply because Dhalsim has very few options against Bison’s corner game. In that very last round you landed a throw, but you threw him out of the corner. I’m guessing this was just a mistake, but that could have been the turning point.

Also, when you focus dash to get inside, use cr.short instead of cr.forward. I noticed you would focus dash in, throw a cr.forward, and then follow up with another normal. At the very end there, absorbed an attack and dashed in, hit Dhalsim with a cr.forward, and then got counter hit when you went for a st.forward to follow up. If you had used cr.short instead, you could have hit confirmed into a SK, which leads to a knockdown. There’s not much you can do from a cr.forward with no charge - it’s 2 frames slower than a cr.short (i.e. easier to be counter hit after a fadc) and you can’t combo anything unless it counter hits.

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to learn and to be able to land cr.short x3 xx SK 100%. You missed this combo a couple of times if I remember correctly, and against Sim this is EXTREMELY important to land. The knockdown shifts the match very heavily in your favor.

Aside from that I would say you played the match very well. Just remember - corners and knockdowns are your friend.

Infexious you could have ultra him 3 times if I remeber correctly when he hit you with jumping fierce. Its free ultra punish.

my match with JS Master (RU) last night…

so yea, I had the chance to fight JS Master’s rufus during a ranbat last night
aside from a few really bad jump-ins on my part, I’d like to see what you just suggest to deal with rufus’s dive kick pressure…

JS Master (RU) vs Gary (BI), JS schooling me kwfighters on USTREAM. Gaming Entertainment

had a tonload of problems…
i guess im not used to fighting someone with really good reactions like this…

anything that im not thinking about against him?

i accidentally posted this as a separate thread earlier, sorry for not reading the rules.

too agressive imo

you can turtle a little more, sure your spacing was good, right in there, but way to obvious that your pressing buttons trying to get in a couple of pokes here and there. Way too repetitive also. I noticed you would poke with st. mk alot, and as soon as you got them out of range, you went crouching spamming cr.mk, cr.short into scissors, even if the cr.mk/short missed. You were hit out of some whiffed scissors. remember its only safe on block.

easy on the cr.shorts for your wake up game when he has meter

nuetral jump hk/mk are good with correct spacing, I would never jump in, majority of the time youll get beat by cr.mp, ex/normal snake strike. Find the correct spacing to safe jump ex messaih.

Work on your counter hit setups/block strings, I saw you used cr.mp>cr.mk, which is good becasue you can link it off the cr.mp, if it’s blocked, puts you at +3 frames, the cr. mk will CH if they try to throw out something.

I think you CH cr.MK>cr.MK xx scissors or CH cr.MK>cr.shortx2 xx scissors.? I cant remember.

All I can say atm Gary is to work on better defense and know when to pressure on. Check out Kim123 vs. Justin Wong

yea i definitely need to work on when and when NOT to cr short. and when not to SK… im terrible at judging it at the moment

also my defense is pretty horrid, so im gonna see what i can do to improve on that.

and absolutely no jumping from that far ever again.

rushing into rufus with bar is so risky. its better to bait it out.

anddd coming back in to try to hit him with skull crusher is stupid if he has ultra or bar.

i should be learn to be more offensive against him in a smart way when he has no bar, and when he does have bar, especially 2 + ultra, be very wary, as they like to fish for the setup.

anything else regarding mistakes in my technique guys?

Gary.N

in my opinion you are predictable in some situations and he punished you because of that. Examples: jump-ins and ex Psycho Crusher to get out of pressure.

I think you should s.hk more, since he jump a lot, and try to dash -> throw, specially after he’s afraid of s.hk or when he start to block after a close scissor knee.

Yes…skull crusher is bad in general.

It’s actually not bad. Learn the timing/spacing to force autocorrect on the opponent and they’ll have a hard time punishing it. It’s also like +10 on block or something ridiculous.

Critique my M.Bison please

What are some of my weak points?
I want anyone’s opinion. I need to know most of the weak points in my game. Any general discussion is also welcome.

Rest of my videos are on my channel, I don’t have a whole lot, maybe 6 matches so far(uploaded)

Few things I can immediately give advice on from skimming the video.
[]Skulldiver deeper on the land, enough that he’s still kinda in block stun after your land. I believe it’s like +11~12f on block, and the EX version is like +16~18f on block.
[
]Try not to wake up with Head Press too often, it’s easy to walk under it.

Combo execution! Always.

Any feedback?

Ok so after lurking too much on this purple side of the SRK forums I’ve finally decided to make my Dic public, in order to have some constructive feedback on my game play.

Here are some matches I’ve had during a long period of time: (hope I have time to upload some more in the future)

:karate:

Just watched the Dictator-Guile vid, but a couple of things:

 1. You got lucky that the Guile threw an Ex-boom at the end. Otherwise you probably would’ve died from a jumping attack after any other boom. Also, I noticed you stunned the Guile once, did FA->cl. st. fp -> RH SK. That’s fine, but then you immediately jumped into the corner. Why? That’s where Bison rapes Guile. It’s 7-3 Bison once he gets Guile into the corner. AND if you’re gonna go into the corner anyway, do FA -> Cl. st. fp -> HP PC. It does more damage/stun. Let’s see… Oh, poke more. Guile has great normals, but the thing that really kills Bison is the sonic boom. If you get in close and do st. mk, Guile is much less strong.

1.Yeah at the end if he would’ve continued to keep me in the corner I was done.
I jumped to avoid the buffer ultra 2 to be visible as in the other round.

2.Getting into that corner was INDEED stupid of me. =(

3.Use st.mk more when close range. (noted)
thx

Good match vs my buddy’s Cammy last night

Alot of mistakes made on both parties last night, but it still made for a damn entertaining match.

I need some pointers how to deal with her strike pressure. She can cross up with them too which is insane. Need pro bisons to chime in.
