thanks, this was def the most constructive thing i’ve heard. I know how to do combos, esp those ending with sk… but you called it- im very afraid to do it on the pad. When i get my stick you will see lots of bnb, which i don’t do because it feels so awkward with bison on the pad. I’m still learning what i can and cannot get away with concerning psycho crushers and slides, and i agree i have much to learn about correct spacing with it.
Against Chun in general you always have to remember that she has better footsies. But overall I felt like you did a good job of out poking her. Also good blocking her hazonsu overheads. She can use them as a frame trap though so be careful, which you were for the most part. I also really liked the reset then slide for a gimmick. I’m gonna have to try that sometimes. I saw more safe slides as well.
With that said I saw some hk SKs, and you should NEVER do those without a hit confirm c.mk/c.mp/hp because you are at such negative frames it is basically open season on you if the block it.
I saw lots of DRs from you in this matchup, which is good for building meter. Against Chun however, because of her high floaty jump, and her air grab can really make you pay for those if you get careless. So always be carefull of being predicatable at close range with these against her.
If she is using lp FBs and dashing behind them to close space, make her guess between eating a EX PC/SK and you jumping over them and landing on her head. Punish her for thinking that she is safe as guile might be for instance. You can’t get predicable with any of these either because she has options to hurt you too if she guesses right. For instance if she knows your gonna EX throw the fireball, she will prob dash in and block quickly when she gets in range and punish your blocked unsafe special. But If you know that is gonna happen then you can jump over it and land on her for pressure into chip damage or a tick throw. If she knows your gonna jump then she can dash up behind the FB and air throw you or j.hp when you try to jump over it. Just try not to show a pattern and make her guess to keep the game in your hands. Also don’t be afraid to focus absorb FBs if she throws them from full sceen. It only builds ultra meter for you.
If you knockdown Chun and she has no meter don’t be afraid to get point blank and start a long blocksting/combo. It will also be easier to setup a tick throw from getting point blank on knockdown against a meterless Chun.
It was smart of you not to try the SD followup to you HSs, because all Chun has to do is sweep to beat that out.
If you are playing a player who is focus fishing the entire game, try not to slide at them too much. Because they can make you pay hard for that. Another good thing to do if you have meter against FA happy opponents is to use EX DR(not the upwards jump, but the punch followup). It will take a good chunk of life if you hit them with it and they are trying to FA, plus you wont get crumpled. Also if you are playing a character how has no real answer for the skulldive followup to HS besides FA, EX SD there asses!! It does great damage and has so many positive frames on hit that it is still open season for you after you land to combo or whateveer you want.
If you find yourself behind an opponent who has tried to FA your jumpin/DP/HS, don’t be afraid to dash at them and throw for a free knockdown. I saw you let that Chun go unpunished for that once or twice. If you are too far away for the dashin grab, then slide and get the knockdown. I mean you are behind them so what could happen?, besides them maybe getting away.
Didn’t watch all of your vids, but a few things Kuwabara-
On the Blanka matchup, cr. short destroys Blanka. I saw that you used it well in the first game. Continue doing so. You jumped in alot initially. Against a scrub, this is okay because you are exploiting weaknesses, but against anyone decent, Blanka will own you. Blanka has some of (if not the best) anti-air options in the game (electricity, upball, cr. mp, cr. hp, st. rh, slide, etc.).
Against the crossup ultra, I could be wrong but you might be able to U2 it (to be safe, land on the side that it won’t roll onto). You definitely can’t DR it like you tried.
I don’t play Bison and this isn’t really being posted to be critiqued. But I’m coming to Bison-land because I think you Bison players may like this.
I usually record matches against my nephews just in case something cool happens. My youngest nephew recently picked up Bison and is really enjoying playing him. In the video he’s Bison and I’m Zangief. He also likes to throw. A lot…

The language is NSFW. But it’s also the whole point of the video so don’t watch it muted.
I’ve noticed that whenever I let an Abel get inside I get destroyed. He can punish ex psychos no problem and up close he’s a monster. Don’t let him get there. You’re better off playing patient and keeping him at bay with st. mk’s and st.hk’s. Stay outside of the range of his st.mk so he can’t mount an offense. By playing this way, you force him to find a way in through rolling, focuses, KD’s, ex COD’s, and jumping in, most of which can be handled by patience and quick reflexes. I just don’t find his SK pressure game as useful in this matchup.
This kinda reminds me of Rose. She’s not a grapler but Rose players throw a lot because with her fantastic dash she can surprise passive players.
Apparently your nephew discovered that Bison has a very good dash too
I tried before doing DR and I could escape with minimal damage, and with ex headstomp I got bad results also, in the next attempt I did ex HS and got a clean hit, somehow in this match I did all reversed and went ok.
same for me, all I needed in that match was patience =(
Your rushdown is vicious but you have to pay attention to how your opponent attempts to escape it. That Abel jumped away like, every single time because you weren’t punishing it. If you waited for it you could use st.hk at the end of your block strings or even U2 at the peak of his jump. Also I noticed that although this Abel was mad good at rushdown, he actually was very limited in trying to get inside. He found your weakness to jump-ins though and abused the hell out of it. These are things to work out in the training room. Finally there were a lot of times where you let him out of the corner for a cross-up mk. It’s just not worth it. Getting them into the corner when you have superior footsies in the first place is a huge advantage that shouldn’t be squandered. This Abel was very good though, I would not be upset for losing to him.
And trading with his c.MK is b.s., not even really trading in this case, more like just giving him free oki.
Played very few good Cody’s online. Played SabR3 a handful of times on live and learned to just not jump at Cody at all. Here’s some with a different Cody player, although not as aggressive with some things as SabR3, still not too bad.
^ I hear you Tony, I’m the same with the Rufus matchup. I cannot, for the life of me, handle the dive-kick pressure. Funny how you can actually psycho-crusher them IF THEY ARE TIMED CORRECTLY and even just st. lp to interrupt them. My timing and spacing is off for the most part in this matchup =/ With DeeJay I find it similar to the Blanka matchup. When he has meter you cannot jump in on him. Cody, I personally like to keep the pressure on and SIMPLY BLOCK. He’s frame traps are too good.
Hey guys, I’m a Ken main but recently picked up Bison/Guy on the side. These matches aren’t the best and I miss a lot of stuff (I almost never drop combos, but do it constantly here), so critique away. Strategies and match-up advice would be appreciated.
Had some matches vs Emblem Lords Sagat, I know my execution is bad dropping lots of cr.lk to scissors. open to critique.

I just finished watching this set and I must say, the random Ultra 2’s were poorly decided. U2’s a jump/fireball punisher but punishing jumps is hard with it. I still think PSN is super laggy hence link drops for myself. Not sure what was the case for you, maybe the same. But all in all, I enjoyed this set the most out of the EL vs Bison matches.
