"Now, face the mighty Bison!" - Video Critique Thread

Hey everyone I came a long way with my Bison; I remember being a complete scrub a year ago.

I decided to post a video to see what ya’ll think; this is me against Nouryu (World Rank#1) He mains a very very sick Guile I managed to beat ; the game did lag a bit though, lag is not in Bisons favor in a matchup like this. I took alot of risks here and there; there was alot of footsie mind games going on .

I did get hit by sonic booms I could have avoided at some points; but overall I think I analyzed him pretty well to get the win at the end.

how u guy post video?? can I download video from 360 into computer and upload to u tube?? or I have to use camcorder??

my video, I know I am a scrub, but I want to know what I should focus on improvement…

 1. my combo sux
 2. no link, get punish by upper cut too much…
 3. can’t read his move…

some of bison combo is tricky in d pad:

c.lp x2 c.lk x2 in to m.SK
j.HK c.mp c.mk xx PC/EX PC H.SK
over head j.mk, c.lpx3 s.lk into m.sk

I can’t do those perfect, so I get punish by SRK/Flash kick, hell I get problem with poorly timed j.hk c.mp into PC

ahhh yeah, that’s what the ‘kara teching’ term means. this indeed does work. i haven’t practiced it much myself but i can vouch for milkshake and the topic was discussed a long while ago when there was a lot of discussion revolving around rufus. I believe Andre was the one who brought it up or at least helped clarify how it worked. there is a very specific timing for it and it’s probably bison’s most difficult OS but it is absolutely possible. im sure you know how to set this up to practice, but I’ll just share what I did maybe as a second opinion.

I started as slow as possible without the lp coming out. so slow that if you were a hair slower the jab would come out right after the st.short. keep speeding it up from there and obviously if your throw comes out it’s too fast, but thinking about it in terms of two limit points, slowest being any slower jab would come out after st.short and fastest being a throw, is helpful I think. oh and lastly, make sure you’re messing with your timing along with rufus training dummy. the way I did it was to just have him do divekick, divekick st.short, a throw, and divekick, divekick st.short. I recorded the divekicks being a little later than instant. obviously when you record, make sure rufus is whiffing his throw so that when you’re actually blocking the throw timing will be correct instead of late.

good luck, let us know when you get it.

P.S. Martyr, No offense to either you or him, but that Guile seemed pretty mediocre. just IMHO though. always nice to see guile bite the dust. one thing is for sure though, you really should have pushed the offense and considering the lag, short short short scissors is probably not the best crossup combo to go for. cr.jab, cr.jab cr.short xx scissors is bison’s easy mode combo and nets you the same damage as short short short scissors. you got a lot of knockdowns and didn’t really capitalize. crossups are just a basic thing that can use to set him up for a simple frame trap (j.mk, st.close fierce, cr.short xx scissors), tic throws since the guy mashed the fuck out of crouch tech instead of doing it properly, you could have gotten in a lot of throws from simple tics and doing it off of a frontal low attack is probably not the best idea against Guile.

you could also just complete your blockstring for chip, go through a blockstring enough to space him out so you can cross him up yet again and mix it up with something else. maybe he’s really good at auto-correct flashkick or something but the danger is worse when attacking just from the front whereas you can lessen that danger significantly by crossing him up.

Yes I completely agree with you; put in mind the game was laggy; which hurt the gameplay level quite a bit; I lost to his Guile about 4-5 times but this video was when I downloaded his style. He is so good with reversal flash kick inside my block string so I stopped doing any sort of pressure like the one you advised.

At this point of the game I figured how to punish his reversal Flash kicking attempt by doing fake block string shorts(frame trap) into grab; or scissor kick. But I was making sure I hit confirmed before doing the scissor kick; since he was so good at stopping SK loops. So in summary I was mainly trying to capitalize on my opponents weakness than attempting to bag in the big combo damage or Bisons chip pressure.

Thanx for the feedback Laundaum! This is a horrid matchup for Bison as we both know; netting a win was really satisfying. The lag didn’t help me alot; but I think the matchup is less terrible than it use to be in vanilla.

^ ah, see now I have a totally different perspective since I know how the other matches went. Considering what you said about how he played, you seemed to have played correctly, but still I maintain that frontal low offense is more dangerous than crossup offense because you win big time even if he just blocks the crossup because he loses charge. Sometimes I like to crossup and then neutral jump so that if you wanted to complete your string with scissors for chip or something, then you can avoid the gaps in your blockstrings being punished by doing something like crossup j.mk, neutraljump hk, cr.mk xx lk scissors. If he blocks the first crossup and then blocks the next neutral jump attack, he cannot build enough charge to punish even if you hit very early with the neutral jump hk. It’s a pretty simple way of finishing a crossup with scissors without going into a long blockstring. then again, giving guile back horizontal spacing might not be the best thing, but that’s another discussion.

^your tactic about crossup up with j.mk and then nj.hk again works well on most of the cast as long as you use it sparingly. Its just good mixup to keep them wondering wtf you are gonnna do next, and if they are mashing tech you can land on their head for some decent damage. I like this setup alot, when the time calls for it. Oh I just thought of a good character to use it against,RUFUS, if he tries to Ex messiah kick through your j.mk crossup combo, then he will whiff and you either land on him or you can dash up behind him after he whiffs and tag him with something or PP.

flash kick is very annoying when u do sk pressure on the, I just can’t think the way yet to 100% sure and bait out.

if tap back dash you might risk eat SB/EX SB from guile, so just wait for 2 kick foot sweep and punish? Lot of guile do that…I think is stupid but hard to punish move in close, c.lk hit during foot sweep and they just flash kick to reset the mistake they just make…

and I just find a funny thing, you can FA3 and do the EX HS on them and hit before they fall…I hear they said WTF! on other side when I pull this off last night, I was try to do EX SK and just move up too much it come out the EX HS!!

FA3 hit dash before fully charge, EX HS out and hit before they hit the floor.:wtf:
this is another guarantee EX HS hit, it hurts, and funny  it also can be hit by normal hit stomp.

i understand the concept behind the jab short rufus OS, but can somebody show a vid of the timing for it? it seems hella useful in high level play against rufus.

Also:

I am the red bison. Here what i picked up on so far:

 • too reliant on EX PC
 • Not predicting his EX PC
 • not being patient with the spacing (lots of unnecessary scissor kicks
 • not setting up ambiguous jumpin properly

Though i was really good at

 • antiair
 • most combos
 • timing jumpin to beat. st. hk
 • footsies

What do you guys think?

I added about a dozen or so new matches I saved from a week or two ago @ http://youtube.com/bisonxsaga I win and lose some. Not gonna lie, I got raped a bit by the Gen. I missed a lot of stuff on the Rufus matches, a friend I play with a lot, cuz they were late at night and I did a lot of reckless stuff.

Check 'em out! Sub me!

Well as bad as this is gonna look since the inputs from me especially are nuts * I still blame the sanwa buttons and the fact a feather touching them can cause the input to go off*, plus I was tired and am still fairly unfamiliar with a good Elf player here ya go, bash me to your hearts content:

if you don’t mind the suggestion form a scrub, then proceed with your own risk :stuck_out_tongue:

Green bison is try to read you more I think, don’t lose cool when you HP behind, when you were lead, you doing very well, but can’t hold it while green bison is waiting. And he use lot of throw, that I don’t know is good or bad, but sure it is good if his throw hit you most of time. normally as bison player myself, I run against jump in not s.HK it unless I am 100% sure. green was try to anti air but fail, later he just wait you to jump in to him…and guess it worked, your jump in give him chance.

and BTW you jump in too much in later game cause you lot of trouble, if you don’t want jump in, do DR then, just spam DR since only EX PC can punish DR, and mix it with HS…full screen EX PC is not that far, and unless you hit DR too deep you will not get hit.

and green bison jump back A LOT, so if you timing right maybe can j.HP and teleport to make him mad…
I am not so sure about PC beat NJ.HK clean.

green bison just get used to your move faster than you do, that is all I can said.

mirror match for bison is not easy, you must hit in and hit out fast, since EX PC is so strong in close, so 99% you can think that is huge SRK coming horizontally, stay away from other bison if he have meter, do something that can piss him of like DR, DR is pretty safe unless he have U2, and depend on player, I like to gamble, so DR mix with HS is my type, and DR when they have U2 is also my kind of intensity that make my eye bleed for such excitement.

and you don’t use c.MP, that is good damage poke and can link, since c.MK is nerf, is not worth that much so spam c.MK try to hit something, if you mix c.MP and c.MK, it will be better tool if he like jump back, c.MP have amazing reach, so does j.HK.

Don’t worry man, Elfuerte is a nightmare for me as well lol

missed the thread, just reposting matches. Critiques are welcome.

any advice is appreciated

vs. Honda - That 2nd round corner mauling was nice, you really had him guessing. I wouldn’t make a habit out of PC’ing into the corner (I think I saw it earlier as well?), but I guess at that point it got you the dizzy. :stuck_out_tongue:

vs. Dhalsim - Man that was one smart 'sim. Damn. Drills beat PC clean, so you have to be careful of punishing TP’s with PC. As far as the match itself, IMO Dhalsim is a char that requires so much patience both to play as and fight against … and patience alone can get you far in this matchup. Sim also has a hard time on wakeup, so I think some more effort to get knockdowns would have won you that match. A lot of punish opportunities were just MK/RH.

vs. Ryu - I absolutely love the way you made him come to you in the last part of the match. Impeccable spacing. Don’t agree with the random PC right at the end, I feel like that could have been auto-correct DP’d … but you won so whatever!

gonna revive this thread =)
placed 33rd at evo which was a huge disappointment =(

This is important info that can save your life so listen up. in a mirror match always go for the player 1 spot, you will get the color you want no matter what, while player 2 is left high and dry.

but seriously, in the rog fight I see a lot of Bisons go for low Mk into H.SK to punished blocked head butts, I usually use st fierce punch into H.sk for more damage. In the Akuma match up I think you should have look out for Akumas back teleport and punish em with the PC.(I know its impossible to punish em all but 1 tag make em guess twice)

Themz my two cents, good sh8t keep reppin that socal.

couple things i saw. even tough you are a player. there were things that you could do better.
first, frame traps. i saw them a few times. ithey are are good a blocking your throws, frame trap those jerks.
i know it is hard to predict, but that balrog was headbutt you every chance he got. bait those and make him suffer.
akuma, dont play mixup games. use that PC like you did to get our, or teleport. wathc out for ex tatsu tho. akuma and ryus make me eat shit with ex tatsu sometimes.
have those option selects ready for characters with great backdash or teleport options.

I only had this game for a week, and this is my first street fighter, but im catching on quickly. This is last time i played:

as someone pointed out in the comments, I don’t know how to handle if I get knocked down, and I don’t think im pressing the right way for a block. This is a major issue, i can have a retarded lead, and if I get knocked down I can lose the match or even get hit so much I get stunned. Is there a move Bison has that come out insanely fast that can stop this or am I better off blocking? What are my best options? I need a lot of help here. I’m a bit better though, im just trying to figure out the mechanics of this game (use to Super Smash Brothers: Camping er…Brawl…) And lol @ end of first round… I knew he was going to get me with that slide attack… I tried to avoid it so hard but he still got me rofl. It good, s*** got real in the next round.

Bison is too ****ing manly for a dainty girl like me to play so I make him pink to nerf this :stuck_out_tongue: Don’t hate on my color.

On knock down… blocking is the best for most of the situations. You’ll have to just kind of watch where the other character is standing compared to yourself when they jump and just get a good feel for which direction to block.
EX-Devil’s Reverse gets you out of a time of stuff and so does EX-Psycho Crusher. But if they’re crossing you up on wake up, EX-Devil’s Reverse is pretty safe 120% of the time against majority of the cast.
