Nova Question And Answer Thread

Oh, THAT glitch. Yeah, it’s not just j.L actually. If you press a normal way too early he just does that. Glitchy character.

yea, was practicing the grab -> hardtag doom and when I don’t dash before the j.M AD cancel he floats like a fairy

So I continued watching FChamp vs Nemo (I’m capped)
By god, I’ll agree with Marvelo, this guy plays like a nut. That speed tackle trickery, hahahaha, funniest thing i’ve ever saw

Floating Nova is absolutely infuriating.

Erm, does Log Trap bypass Grav Shield?

I had this happen a lot in casuals

Yes.

Welp
now I have to respect the log

Yeah, a little while back I did a bunch of matches against Spiderman/Log with Nova/Bolts, really hard to pin anyone down when that log trap’s around. It was annoying, had to be patient, which just feels wrong with Nova/Bolts :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey guys there are any other ways to do nova’s crumple without spencer assist?

Tons of assists let you do it off a grounded confirm, but it requires just a magic series + assist call > immediate Rocket Punch (example: s.L+Shopping Cart > s.MH > qcb.H), which is kinda silly and useless in most situations.

Practically…no. Slant Shot is the only assist that re-stands.

Check xr0s’ newbie thread for a list of assists that help you do the crumple off a standing hit. Cold Star and Weasel Shot are obvious ones but you can even do it with Samurai Edge and Hadoken. With longer hit-stun assists you can confirm into it more easily with Grav Pulse L, which also tacks on a lot of damage, so I’d say those are the most practical.

Sorry if this has been covered, but could I get some thoughts on the Nova/Firebrand matchup? Specifically Nova(Plasma Beam) vs Firebrand(Plasma Beam). I’m asking on behalf of a friend, who’s new to Nova and doesn’t really visit forums.

As a Joe player, my goal is pretty clear; zone him the fuck out. But that’s not exactly good advice I can give to my friend. Due to Firebrand having access to Plasma Beam, it looks pretty hard to keep him at bay with pulses and javelins. Does he just have to be smarter about counter-calling Beam? Any notes are appreciated, thanks.

I actually think Firebrand can outzone Nova. However, Nova is much more oppressive. It might actually be slightly in Firebrand’s favor, but I haven’t fought an experienced Firebrand outside of Apologyman who thinks it’s in FB’s favor. I can’t really say exactly what to do in the neutral because I’ve only fought a handful of Firebrand’s unfortunately.

Besides that, everyone that wants to get good with Nova needs to start practicing plinkdashing. Like right now. Recently, I’ve come to really master it and it’s made an exceptional improvement. You gain new avenues of attack and become much more oppressive. Master plinkdashing on the ground and you’ll find yourself right in front of your opponent constantly. People become afraid of jumping. Not since I discovered speedtackle/vajra have I made such an improvement to my Nova neutral. Master plinkdashing.

put up pulse; speed tackle him on reaction if he throws a fireball. He can’t recover from luminous body in time to be safe unlike other installs.

I’m really digging the j.S incoming setup with Ammy
Anything I should be wary of that could stop the setup?

Just be sure not to mis-space it, as some chars can hit him out of it if you do. Vergil, for instance can j.L if you’re not close enough.

I just realised there are two ways i can approach my opponent but which is better
Wavedash with Beams or cr.MxxCent Rush with Beams?

I’m a wave dash advocate. If you wave dash, you have more control of the character and there is less a commitment.

Fuck wavedashing, it’s all about plinkdashing.

Also, you need to be familiar with all his ways of approaching your opponent. They’re all good at different times.

That being said, cr.M to centrush+beam is very strong because it covers a large amount of space with his centrushes essentially being flying divekicks.
This is also good at fighting advancing guard since it punishes upbacking.

I think wave AND plink dashing should be used. Plink dashing is also in that boat of movement options that are a commitment. Less so than Cent Rushes though, for sure. Wave dashing allows you to hit the little points on the screen and cancel the dash really short if you want.
