Nova Question And Answer Thread

Naw. That should work…I tend to do similar combos off of it. I usually do like j.MH xx fly ~ j.LMHS or something like that…just be cautious of the angle that you get the confirm…if you do the Human Rocket pretty close then do s.LMHS, they tend to be a little above your head I think…so you have to make sure you do j.H after the fly cancel in order to keep them at the right height for the j.S to connect.

Question! Since I’m a bottomless well:

To those of you w/ nova in the 1 spot, in partic nova doom ammy, but not exclusively… if novas really starting to bleed, do you play more w/ the mindset to tag em out to heal? Or more to go for broke and mix em up to the grave then play the doom ammy (or whatever) game? I’ve done both and prefer the former, but wanted to survey the prevailing attitude.

Btw thanks to everyone here for all the great posts and answers in general. Nova doom ammy just feels straight broken sometimes. May even convert to triple white too, bot not sure. Always go red black in general, but NDA as 4 5 5 is a little funky w/ the gold lol

To be honest, I let Nova die like…almost every time lol. I know a lot of people in general try to save their point characters but I never really care.

I go all black, just saying

mm, for me, I don’t really pay attention to the health bars but considering how we use Grav Pulse, I guess Nova’s going to die fighting

366, any other color combination for Nova/Doom/Ammy is pleb.

I’ll tag Nova out to heal if I think the matchup will become unwinnable if he dies. Those are mostly against teams with Dorm, Strange, Hawkeye, etc. in the back. Horrible Doom matchups. If I down a character with Nova and his health is low, I may tag in either Doom or Ammy since I’m comfortable with incoming for both of them, and I might just want to play point Ammy for a bit (so fun).

I personally always try and get him out to heal when i notice that he’s really hurting. A lot of times i will just get him out to the back with a sliver of health after using the red health because people forget that he’s alive at all for 1, and for 2 his assist adds really solid dmg for frank and unblockables for dante… also dhc’ing to speed tackle is damn useful imo.

Yeah for NDA Ive been 455 from the start, but after seeing triple white advocated, I tried it and dig it.

Yeah, on whether to save the point, it’s always been so team-specific for me. Like, some teams the strategy actually INCLUDES letting the point die. For NDA I just feel Nova is so powerful, he’s worth saving, as long as someone else doesnt lose half their live doin it. Also depends how much red is left. If Nova’s at a sliver and it can never be recovered, Im way more likely to let him die than a situation where Doom flying around could get me a near fresh Nova back.

Plus w/ Cold Star I really dig fighting w/ Doom, not to mention the possible unblockables. They dont work if they ARE your strategy, but as a surprise move? BAM, all the time! lol Main down side is you don’t get the THC goodness w/ Doom if Nova’s around. I can deal w/ that though.

Nova/Ammy’s THC is a decent one-time reversal/instant pressure applicant. Do the THC, X-Factor, dash up/Cent Rush L/HRP in, then just do a jillion cross-up instant overheads until they get hit. This is a lot like Strange/Ammy, though not quite as good. In XF2 you should be able to kill most characters with the ensuing combo. I’m not 100 positive but I think you can build another bar with a simple HRP L combo after the pickup… I’ll test when my XBox arrives at some point.

I think the team is strong enough that any 2 character combination can get the job done, though Doom/Nova is definitely the worst. Still, if you know how to fight push-block with Doom’s dash cancels and time the Cent Rush M assist call properly, the unblockable is pretty easy to set up. If you manage to get a non-push-blocked butter gun in it’s fairly free.

Xr0s-up, you make a good point about red life. When Nova’s got 20% red life stocked and he’s about to die, he becomes less a meat shield but a meat battering ram. Spending it all on a smart Grav Pulse L/M or a Grav Blaster to catch an assist or just kill a character is a good bet.

Agreed. I realized the xxx Doom Ammy shell has always been one where I’ve most played the point to death traditionally. But nova is just so fucking brokenly strong w/ them, he’s hard to part with if you can help it.

Dougiie, when you mentioned “the moons” reset, w/ the call ammy into M cent rush, after the nova slam, do you use a normal into “the moons?” Or just call ammy and dp as they bounce

i let nova die every time i lose…

…hes my anchor!

Whoops…i think you misread…I said c.M but I meant crouch M not centurian rush. The Moons is when you do Nova slam, you do crouch M with Ammy assist to make them pop up into it for a mixup

You’re absolutely right, my bad. That said, Ammy into M Cent Rush ALSO works. Though I usually do an sM into it, but now will do it w/ cM.

Sorry, but you mind elaborating on this slightly? I just found it intriguing as I never thought of Strange having any instant overhead, let alone “like Nova’s but better?” I assume that’s not exactly what you meant, but still curious what this comment was about. lol We’ll just suppose the team was Nova Strange Ammy but Nova died. Check it out, now it’s on topic!

Edit: Actually, here’s a new question about our boy: I was wondering, when in the thick of a neutral game where the opponent is very mobile, maybe making a concerted effort not to let us in to get anything started, any fun tips or tricks to help in forcing the issue? Thanks to everyones’ help, I feel like if I can simply CONNECT w/, say, a jH or cM (hit or block), they are at the very **least **going to deal w/ 2+ mixups, that’s usually enough for a hit. But what if we’re denied getting close enough to call assist and cent rush, or box jump jH then dash in, etc? The idea of fishing for Human Rocket Supers into launch combo on the last page was amazing answer for this.

Another good trick I use is a modification of an incoming setup Moons taught me many months ago. The setup was to jump up, adu, call Ammy, jS. POW, crossup cold star. So in neutral when an opp is playing a heavy space denial, I’ve been **sometimes **doing jump, aduf (or whatever jump and dash directions are appropriate, space-wise), then calling Ammy and hitting jS. This is kind of brazen and prob shouldn’t be a build-around-me type strategy. But if you just gotta get in there, and they haven’t seen too much of it, if can give you a free cold star lock once in a while.

Any other good tactics for when an opponent is playing **solely **to not allow the mixup train to leave the station?

No I’m talking about the use of the THC, in the sense that in order to get the mixup you have to pop X-factor. Sorry if that wasn’t clear. Strange just does XF, teleports around randomly, you get hit, he puts down graces and you die. With Nova you XF cancel then get over there manually and mix them up. Unlike Strange’s you can still mix people up decently in the corner with this, though it’s stronger mid-screen due to cross-up instant overheads.

WOWOW…correction…so I’m currently watching Moons on stream and even though low medium is what I meant, Moons DOES DO M CENTURIAN RUSH too. He does Nova slam ~ s.M + Ammy xx M Cent Rush. The s.M pops them out and the Cent Rush forces them into Ammy assist

SO let’s get this straight… you mistakenly mis-reported something. I mistakenly mis-interpreted your report. And somehow we arrived at accuracy?

I love this thread.

The sweetest part is that when Moons is doing turned out to be exactly what I had come up with. I’m starting to dig Cold Star in neutral even more than the beam. Obviously range is a consideration, but when we can get in w/o a prob, I love that damn ice.

you guys just came to the realization of what it is to play x-factor level 3 nova thats all!

went all ham and came out on top!!!

 I don’t doubt Nova anchor is fun as hell. Am I to assume that’s where your Nova resides? Guess it all depends on finding chars who can put his assist to real use. But Nova’s just so incredible on point w/ assists, it would be a mighty tough sale for me to throw em in back.

Now if they were to give Nova a real beam and replace his wall bounce assist with it…I would put him in the back any day XD

A tracking Javelin assist would be kinda cool. Like a smaller vajra w/o hurtbox and bounce instead of hard knockdown.
