I do it all the time lol…go for it
Definitely something i should do a lot more, i get blown up a lot by pushblock whiff punishing.
Also worth noting, doing this often will set your opponent up for Nova’s best frametrap with level 2/3 Gravimetric Pulse L. They expect you to fly, instead wait and cancel the H, kill a character. Aren’t you glad you can cancel whiffed normals in this game?
If they push blocked, then use them to safely recover.
If they didn’t, you can actually go for something like cM, sH, fly, unfly falling M for an overhead.
Well thanks for the honest answer lol. I swear, some of the other forums (i wont name any names dr.strange thread) pretty much are reluctant to help when your only post asks…“hey how do you do the FoF loop” which after a week of trying it their way I figured it out on my own. I understand the people want only productive contributors rather than Q & A guys who are in and out and even when I started marvel, doing to nova elevator combo would get me so aggravated to the point that I dropped marvel completely. I really appreciate the answer and I promise to be a solid contributor to this thread. I lurk more than anything but I hope none of you feel like you responses are unappreciated because I very much appreciate any and all responses I get.
I’ll be lurking in the nova forums alot since thats the only character i know (and everyone else says hey your nova is on point…cant say the same about your other characters though).
Don’t worry about all that. As far as I have noticed, everyone here is cool and laid back. Constructive arguments and disagreements here and there but no bashing or anything like that. Have a question? Ask it. Not everyone in the world is a Mavel genius so I doubt anyone here expects you to be one.
Yeah dude it’s all good. I think the Nova boards are pretty laid back and helpful/constructive and no one’s gonna give you shit for not knowing something. Everyone’s gotta start somewhere.
I hope this question hasnt been asked yet but what are you guys doing before the match starts? The pre-“FIGHHHT!”?
Since i also play mags on point on another team, i have a habit of pressing my opponent with f.H for a fast normal and OS throw.
but nova has a f.H move that’s slow so if the throw doesnt come out, i get nova slam.
I usually back off and gain distance and call an assist to cover my approach. Other than that, i dont know what to do the first 5 seconds of the match. What are more options?
Running Nova/Task/Doom(missiles). And maybe even Nova/Doom(missiles)/Strange
Good question, I always wonder what people’s take on the pre-FIGHT! game. For me, it’s really matchup dependent. Sometimes I have no problem getting up in their face and option selecting BACK throw (this is important so you don’t get nova slam!) especially while calling Cold Star. A throw break is either going to lead into a hit from my assist or a mixup. You don’t really have assists to help you with that, but against some players/characters it’s worth it to try out. That said, against some characters where it’s smarter to back off no matter what (Haggar, Spencer, Hulk), I do just that, and usually put out a Grav Pulse H at normal jump height (which I wish more players would do). This gives Nova more or less the defense he needs to bait an opponent into doing something dumb, and Cold Star again helps with this.
Since you’re using Missiles, I think you’ll find backing up is the better option more often than not. Just be patient and use those shields like your life depends on it. Nova’s pretty good at protecting missiles.
Either way, this is really matchup dependent, so just feel things out and be aware of your opponent’s assists (and eventually, their tendencies).
Great question…i personally have a bad problem with 99 second assist calling lol. I usually backwave dash now that I learned it on pad, call assist and shield but idk…depends on who/what im going against.
With the starting move, would j.H be nice for OS?
Also, concerning the iOH, by doing :d: :u: :d: :l:, do you need to do this really really fast? I’m on pad so I’m not sure if this might be possible considering the other directions can be accidently pressed
oh I abuse the crap out of st.H/j.H OS throw at the round start. Even moreso because I have shopping cart. 90% of the time I’ll be walking forward to pressure my opponent. The 10% are when I’m fighting Hulks and Haggars.
Also, is there any way for shopping cart and cold star to cover Nova when using your cent rushes as anti pushblock moves? I’ve seen Task arrows and Doom Beam do that perfectly but I’m not sure how much my assists help me do that, and that’s something I’d love to do
For throws, yes, definitely. But now you’ve got me thinking about OS j.H with other stuff a la Felicia’s OS j.6/5h xx Delta Kick… god damn I wish I was home!
Not sure about Shopping Cart, but I know Cold Star is just a general good anti-push block assist. So if you’re talking about call Ammy/slide xx cent rush L or M, that should keep Nova in dat ass pretty well. I fucking love Cold Star.
Was playing someone who would throw out jam session, and then rush in if it hit me trying to come in. I was wondering what’s a good way with Nova to punish it (post-startup). I tried d.M but it doesn’t win. In the end I simply backed up and did Nova’s beam hyper, but there’s gotta be a non-meter dependent way.
You play pad? do what I do press down on the analog and up on the dpad then down on the analog evil grin pad is cheap lmaooo. It makes the first down and the up count as 1 input. But after a while you will wanna learn the regular down up down. What I do is i press down up as if superjumping for the the second down, i pull down on the analog from the top of it…i don’t even know if that makes sense but i tried.
Ohohohoho
so cheap, i will try this
how do you do it though, all with your left hand? Like use your thumb to jump from analog to dpad and back to analog
I use both thumbs…left thumb stays on analog and right comes off of buttons, presses up and then back to L for the overhead
how in the name of god do i get wolvie off me at the start of the round? was practicing my nova/frank/dante team last night and a friends wolvie/mag with akuma or missiles was owning my soul… like hard
LMAO…I was playing a friend who usually bodies me with Wolvie for the first time in a few weeks last night and it was sooo much easier than I once thought. Really, all you gotta do is hold back…hold back. But it all depends on the player. Once you tech that opening grab you can snapback to avoid the tech mash fight.
It’s still pretty bad. It’s doable, but great wolverines are MUCH different than average wolverines. Nova beats average Wolverines, while good Wolverines body Nova for free. It all depends on your assists too, but Wolverine with Plasma Beam or Tatsu is a nightmare…
Nova only really has problems with Spencer, Wolverine, Dante, Vergil, and maybe Captain America. He pretty much shits on everyone else or at worse is even.
