Nova Question And Answer Thread

Which combo are you doing? The j.S has a bit of start-up where Nova floats a bit higher before coming down to the ground, so try to position yourself slightly (about a half-character?) below them.

lmh s air mmh fly lmh s nova slam s mmh s <- thats when it whiff’s

maybe I should just end it with super nova?

You’re too far into the combo for that to be possible, you can only do it with select assists (hidden missiles) or in x-factor. End it with Super Nova

By the way, don’t know if this has been found/mentioned, but in addition to the 20ish frames of armor Centurion H has, the first two punches also nullify low and medium durability projectiles, which explains why sometimes Nova tears through stuff without taking any damage. This applies to both arthur lances and also incapacitation state projectiles (hyper gravitation, Spencer grapple, Beacon bomb, etc). Which, as far as I can tell, means Nova’s a great assist killer if they’re not protecting it, among a few other applications.

LOL. #TheMoreYouNova

Cent Rush H is definitely something I should start playing around with. I’ve been attempting to use it as an antiair, even though it has kinda slow startup, but if you can read a helm breaker or something similar the armor will absorb it. I just hate how unsafe it is. Maybe if it’s punishable, we can react with canceling it into takedown super if it’s completely blocked.

I really think it’s best for assists. Most assist calls out there are either quick projectiles (that you can tear through), or hits that you can armor through. Obviously stuff like missiles or drones won’t work, but that stuff is what Rocket punch is for anyways. Furthermore, assists take a minimum of 30ish frames to get on screen after being called (and that’s for the fast ones like hawkeye/akuma/frank), and most take longer; gives you time to charge up. The big thing of course is space you need from the point character. Still, I think Nova’s a great assist killer if you know when/how to use the tools.

Beyond that, I’m looking for situations where the move is easily telegraphed or characters use projectiles to cover their approach (like Akuma behind an air fireball). Hammer, helm breaker etc definitely work if you can bait it out with still enough time to get your armor out.

And yes, you can speed tackle run away to make it fairly safeish. Also, if Centurion H hits an assist, as long as the last hit isn’t blocked by the point character, you can also jump cancel to safety.

I have 2 general Nova questions.

  1. I just put Nova on anchor for my team, are there certain level 3 xfactor only shenanigans I should be aware of for Nova? I saw the Energy Javelin and Cent Rush M infinite, the latter seeming to be more viable to hit, but just want to make sure I’m aware of all his lvl3 options.

  2. What is the current use for his tackle super? I’ve seen it used to punish projectile supers and catch doom missiles assist call, but it seems like some players I’ve watched just fish for hits with it. Is it really worth the meter to just hope you catch an assist call or something?

High Speed Takedown super is incredibly underrated. I’m going to start a series of Nova tutorial videos and going into detail with that super is one of them. You can create some pretty cheap crossup shenanigans with it since you can combo from it.

Also, go nuts with Javelins, airthrows, and learn his x-factor combos.

This is a question on resets. I am trying to find a viable combo off Energy Javelin, when it connects in the air. In the corner I can’t get H loop, if I could I would be able to get a crumple with Spencer. All I’ve been able to do with the groundbounce used, is st.MHS, MMHS, dp.L xx qcf.A+A, DHC to Spencer.

Is there some tech I am missing out on that someone can point me towards or just something I should be aware of.

Actually, the H loop is a little obsolete unless you throw in L rocket punch and do another H. The regular H loop is his 3rd most damaging option in the corner. Since you play Nova/Spencer watch my little intro to this video where I show the 2 most damaging (that I know of) combos into Spencer assist in the corner.

Yeah I’ve watched that video a million times now, thanks for the tech.

However, the situation I am presenting, I don’t see a clear answer to in that video, and it’s my fault for not clarifying my situation. I’m saying that if I do say an S or CenturianRush.H jcc into Energy Javelin and my opponent gets hit out of the air and gets ground bounced. What combo options do I have? I wasn’t able to connect anything overly fancy and I assumed that was because of the hit stun decay on EJ. Has anyone else been able to land one of the above gdlk combos in this situation?

OOOH okay…well in that case, you’re sorta kinda assed out as far as I can think lmao. After a ground bounce (if in the corner) your best option is

H, S, j.H xx L rocket punch, dash down, j.H, H + assist for crumple, L C. Rush xx super

If mid screen

H, S, j.H xx M rocket punch, diagonal dash down, j.H, H + assist…etc

Now, depending on what other assist you have, it can get better. What’s your other assist?

Team Infrit. Nova/Spencer/Sentinel. Nova/Spencer is too good combo wise and I love Sentinel.

So, I might be able to get some of the Sentinel extensions you’ve got in that video. However, is using my wall bounce midscreen worth it? Considering I have Spencer to DHC to and the potential for UVG?

OH ! well then if that’s the case, do w/e u have to do to get a an assist call from Spencer into the crumple, wait for them to fall a little, call sentinel drones and do L centurian rush…this will pick them up into a juggle on the drones so u can do M centurian rush and from there you can cancel into super right away or since it’s a forced groundbounce, you can do another L rush then super and everything from there is elementary

That’s awesome. I never thought about CenturianRush.L to knock them into drones. I now need to enter the lab.

yup yup…the trick is when u get the crumple, give them a bit of time to fall, call drones first THEN do the rush.

Was thinking about reset options. Everyone is aware of the crumpled opponent, cr.M xx Fly and then air grab? Well that reset isn’t very practical after a while as Nova is just in your face floating and in no time your opponent could react to this mixup. So I was thinking.

What if you did, cr.M xx fly, and instead of going for the air grab, unfly and antiair there tech grab with st.L. Does this seem viable?

lmaoo you know what is SO FUNNY…i was in the lab today messing with my crap load of mixups I have in the corner and thought of the SAME THING and honestly, i think it will work. It’s already a known tactic to try and catch someone teching and hit them…Nova’s j.L is pretty fast and you can link it to j.H and get a full combo so i think it’s good. Im going to be making a video with my team and i plan on putting ERRRTINGGG i know out there lol. Thats gunna be in there

A better option I believe is to fly, and then space yourself outside of you’re opponents grab range and hit them with J.H -> unfly -> link st.L ->combo. It’s pretty much the same idea though.

Dougiie I look forward to the video. A lot.

And Moons I very much like that idea as well, also great showing at Big Two last week.
