Not trolling, legit question to the people who play this game

Doom isn’t mandatory
Ray ray’s use of doom on his team is not even optimized. He uses drones like 90% of the time, and he doesn’t tac that much.
Most likely though, you will need one or a combination of the following in the future:
Doom, Dante, Ammy, Strider, magneto, strange
Reason being that they are the best assist characters that don’t suck.
Doom just happens to be the most versatile assist character in terms of team creation since he has 2 good assists, and his beam assist is the most widely useful while disruptor is mainly only good with teleport characters, or bolts is mostly only good with ground/mid jump characters.

I listed a lot of those teams in my tier thread on SRK on my tumblr so you can always just read that if you want to know. Morrigan/Doom/Vegil is nice, but as people get more accustomed to Morrigan/Doom and pick better teams to fight that shell, it won’t really dominate the game like people think it will. Morrigan/Doom/Vergil will just force players to pick through different characters that they aren’t using enough and utilize snapbacks to bring in Doom or preferably Vergil.

Maybe I missed it but you seemed to have addressed each of the problems individually, not together on the same team. But together is exactly the problem with MorriDoom+silly anchor because they basically cover each others’ asses. How can you snap Vergil in for an early kill (before xf2/3 + a stock of supers for swords) when it’s so hard to land a hit on Morrigan to begin with? How can you kill Morrigan when until you finally get to hit her, you need to cut your combos short and let her live in order to snap in Vergil, not to mention that if you burn your XF to kill one, you still have to deal with the other.

Even in the vanilla days the problem wasn’t Phoenix alone, but Phoenix in a team of “pick your poison” where the other 2 characters you had to spare could give you hell exactly because you had to spare them.

Basic formula should be

  1. Kill morrigan
  2. If you land a hit on doom, snap in vergil
  3. hope he doesn’t land

Doom should just be the support in the sandwich. He’s kind of like the buns/bread. He holds it all together, but the meat itself is the point. I’m not sure what that makes the anchor since my analogy sucks, but the point is that people shouldn’t be worried about dealing with doom outside of his assist/support in a team like x/doom/vergil.

There are also characters who fight morrigan well, despite what many say. Most of those being teleport characters with swords with vajna assist, but champ also showed us that he is capable of handling morrigan with his dorm on point at ECT or w/e the fuck it was. With good spacing, viper also deals with morrigan surprisingly well, but none of the well known vipers execute her game correctly when it counts vs a player like chris g where you need those precise seismos, lasers, and focus for shell kick. The plus for viper is that she gets to molest vergil on incoming since his inc options suck vs her.

Kind of a problem because what Doom does not excel at- Making something happen. But what Doom does excel at- Keeping you away with footdives/pewpew and stalling time/gaining meter for the other 2 characters.

I ask myself that very question. I bought the game, I was excited for it, and came out tremendously disappointed when I realized that it’s basically about endless combos and a lot of flashy shit on screen.

It’s still sitting on my game rack, together with Injustice ( annoying physics), KOF XII ( the mistake of a lifetime) , SFxT ( fun, but terrible graphics and shit netcode), Blazblue ( meh), and Skullgirls ( snorefest), gathering dust.

Meanwhile SSF4 hasn’t come out of my videogame in over 6 months

get some ham session or vajra in there
even if he does get vergil in there, it’s not game, especially if doom has to build 2 meters to dhc, meaning vergil only has swords on dhc and no meter for dt or swords

excuse my horrible comma usage

Because instead of being a bottom-tier fighter that’s only considered a practice dummy in MvC2, Hulk can wreck shit with MANY characters in MvC3. Not to mention the satisfaction of whipping chains on Wesker with Johnny Blaze.

SFxT and SSF4 have practically the same graphics.

Also, SFxT and “shit netcode” don’t even belong in the same sentence.

There’s literally nothing called “online tactics” in that game.

This so much. Even with inevitable bad matchups, he’s great at winning and forcing more cowardly play out of some of the best characters in the game and actually has the neutral game and mix up to be a fighting character.

gonna leave this here http://imgur.com/a/FDWqt

Let’s put it this way:

If they didn’t like the game, they’d have all gone back to MVC2.

Stop throwing shade because nobody plays the game you like.

Morrigan is an MvC2 character in UMvC3. That said, while it’s hard to catch up to her, it’s still nothing like having to chase down Storm at the top edge of the screen in 2.

As for Vergil, he basically fills a similar role to what Sent did in 2 where you could simply put him in almost any team and make that team viable (I believe it was shoultzula who once said that you could plug in Sent into a team with Servbot or Roll and still make top 8 at EVO or something like that).

they wouldnt have gone back to marvel 2 because there isnt any money in marvel 2 anymore aside from side tournaments which might pull in like $100 at the max (which im guessing), marvel 3 gets hate on because it shouldnt be doing anywhere near as well as it is, when there are a lot more competent games out there that should be getting exposure, but since you dont need to understand whats going on to enjoy marvel 3, and you dont need to put as much effort into learning marvel 3 as you do for KoF, Tekken ect. all those other games just get shit on and left in a box to die while people get a falsified feeling of hype from xfactor comebacks and tac infinites instead of solid play, jago said it best “it aint bout the playin, its bout the pay-puh”

I’ve heard all three of those players say the game is fun
well 2/3 at least
pr rog is always mad though it seems, so I wouldn’t be surprised if losing in marvel 3, despite the fact that he plays one of the most braindead combinations in the game, makes him very upset.

This statement is also absurdly stupid.

you mean to tell me from a spectator standpoint you need to fully understand the games mechanics to find it enjoyable? half the fgc goes “oh shi iron man, he was cool in the cartoons, and is that ryu? man i love street fighter” they can just look at the characters and the flashing lights and enjoy it with no real knowledge of the game

And there’s money in UMvC3 because people are still playing the game, which you can’t say for Tekken and KOF. You are out of your mind if you think TTT2 and KOFXIII wasn’t pushed heavily by the FGC when they were released, it’s just that the effort proved to be futile. TTT2 died because the series became to be too bloated and inaccessible, while KOFXIII is full of bullshit too and is a lot less of a honest fighting than what people want to claim it to be.

Pretty much. The character models are the same, they’re just smaller with a different filter and different particle effects on specials.

The netcode is fine as well.

It’s whatever though, anyone that plays SFxT is used to the irrational, baseless hate by now.

After reading all of the posts since I last posted, I have only two things to say:

1- What is stopping the rest of the world from playing on the same level as the Japanese? For stuff like VSav I understand, there wasn’t as much of a scene in the states as there was in Japan. But it’s not like people in the states don’t have the same amount of time on their hands… can’t speak for other countries, but I feel like the mindset of “Japan will always be better than us” or in this thread’s case “the game looks balanced because Japan makes low tiers look good” is gonna hold everyone back.

2- My reason for liking Ultimate hasn’t changed. Game gives me a stiffy, plain and simple.
To be more specific, finding a new team that I like occurs probably once a week. That gives me a regular boner. Making that team work only happens maybe once every 3 months, and even then it might not work out in the long run, but holy GOD does it lead to the most glorious and satisfying erection known to mankind. I just won a bunch of sets with Strange/Dorm/Ammy, a team I made literally this morning (though I do have a lot of Dorm/Ammy experience). Now I can barely hold my laptop comfortably on my lap.
That said I doubt many people have the same experience as me. But lab-ratting is where it’s at. There’s always new stuff to find in this game (and thus, new boners).

That’s the problem, SF4’s graphics and artstyle was acceptable when it came out but not after MvC3. You can hate MvC3’s gameplay for all you want but one thing that’s pretty undeniable is that they did an amazing job when it comes to the animation, backgrounds, art etc. Even doing simple Hulk/Wolverine/Wesker combos in MvC3 is actually bloody fun because you really feel like you are ripping your opponent’s characters into pieces and bodying them, while doing long combos in SF4/SFxT is a bloody chore because it feels like you are punching a sponge when you hit someone. Just hit a few Magneto jabs in UMvC3 and compare it to the animation of a few Rufus jabs in SF4/SFxT. That’s why the hype for SF4 is more or less dead already, the game has dated badly and everyone wants a SF5 rather than some stupid useless patch that’ll solve none of AE2012’s problems. And that’s why SFxT failed, the game looks like an uglier SF4, with everyone having perm Hakan oil and gem glows everywhere.
