Not trolling, legit question to the people who play this game

Why do you play this game? Every time it comes up on stream I watch some poor player get their point character touched once, killed, then their incoming characters get mixed up and their dead without ever getting to play. Either that or you’re out playing the other person only to have them get lucky and get a happy birthday, x-factor, and then completely annihilate you. I just can’t figure out how anyone sees this happen and then says “I WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME” or has it happen to them and then wants to keep playing. Combine this with unblockables, infinites, and glitches and I can not figure out what the appeal is. Even the supposed hype doesn’t even seem to surpass that of any other game. I mean it has its hype but it doesn’t seem to be in extraordinary amounts. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of angry responses, but I’m just looking for someone to help me see the good side of this game.

do tell

It’s fun.

Mainly for the sandbox aspect. When you get good enough to get your movement up and pick a good team there’s a lot of neutral situations and figuring out how to counter call against assists and such. The frame traps and throw games are a lot more old school than the ones in say SFIV and it allows for dynamic changes between offensive and defensive or runaway games. You get to see all extremes of fighting game strats happen very quickly. A lot of the times within the same match. A lot of the best teams don’t have a set play style…it’s just whatever is best at the time.

It’s either that, or play slower games with less stuff to do and no team/assist aspect. The game is extremely unique and that’s what keeps people glued to it both players and spectators alike.

im a masochist

Because I dislike the other currently popular fighting games even more.

Cause it’s the porn of fighting games
’In your face, eat it,you like that?’

There’s so many variables, the thought of what hasn’t been discovered yet keeps me hooked.

because its colorful as fuck

LIKE DAMN LOOK AT ALL DEEZ FLAMEZ

Cause it gives me a boner.

The game is stupid fun.

The drive to be good enough to do the same to other people.

I just started watching UMVC3 vids yesterday. I’ve played MvC, MvC2 and MvC Origins and can safely say that with UMVC3 I have no idea what’s going on…none at all…

People love to watch Marvel. People love to be watched.

I started playing because there seemed to be a lot of creativity and freedom involved, but once you get to a higher level, all that fades away. That’s why I stopped.

That and it was honestly bad for my health. Not even kidding, the rage was killing me, to the point where I was getting headaches, blurred vision and chest pains. Now that I’ve been clean for about six months, I can actually say I enjoy fighting games again.

Because I, among many others, somehow enjoy the fuck out of

Ah, you forgot the “Keep Calm and Let All Your Characters Die Then Win With X-Factor 3 Vergil” one.

Which I can’t find, so I guess I’ll give you a pass. I’ll just use this one instead.

Here you go:

you have to look at it like this, if you can read a coloring book, you will more than likely enjoy marvel 3, if you can read a children’s novel like harry potter, you might like marvel 1, and if you can read 3rd grade social studies, you might like marvel 2, none of them are that hard which is why they are popular, but the order in which i listed gradually become less and less brain dead and the point of the coloring book statement, is that its easy as fuck and there are no consequences to playing the way you want so you have absolute freedom for the most part or “coloring outside the lines” because you will always have xfactor so you dont need to worry about snowball effects and you dont really need to learn anything aside from the core basics to get to a remotely decent level. inb4 300 disagrees and flags

I feel the same way as the OP. Except I actually played the game fairly consistently for 5-6 month’s, and got the same feel from playing that he described watching.

Then I went back to Marvel 2 and was like OH MAN THIS GAME IS SO GOOD. edit also Skullgirls.

Eh, at least you didn’t also say Tekken is like War and Peace, or BlazBlue is like a physics textbook.
