um… get your blood pressure checked out man… for a period of time I got the same symptoms from this and other competitive games… but only while i was dealing with a pretty serious illness… so… couldn’t hurt to get it checked.
Videogames… Last time I checked you play the games you enjoy the most. Whatever game it is be it SF4, TTT2, Persona, KOF, SFxT or any other FG.
If the majority enjoys Umvc3 you can’t force them to dislike it. Literally every game has its flaws. I don’t know much about Mvc2 but I often see the letters MSC. I assume it stands for a popular team?
I get what you’re saying, but I still see these points as pro-competitive. Fighting games were becoming more an endurance competition than an arcade game. It’s easy enough to absolve yourself from the bane of having to keep in touch with fighting games by claiming the cliche that the older one was better… I’m new to the newer fighters, 98-02 were probably my glory days, but I’m personally glad to see the breath of fresh air and almost-mainstream competitive attention to something other than CoD and Starcraft.
The skills gap at the lower end has been compressed somewhat, but the champions are still the same champions. Tournaments are still all about the Daigos and the J-Wongs that they’ve always been. The top tier match-ups are still just as entertaining and the average pandered scrub still has no hope of getting up there, but they get the unique experience of feeling like they’re part of it. What other gaming community gives back like that? It’s something to be proud of.
Except thats how not how it’s worked in the FGC for YEARS. People played 3rd Strike in tourny’s even tho they hated it. What your saying make sense but it hasn’t been true for well over 10 years, even for game that do take skill and dedication. People play whats popular, not whats competitively viable, we’ve known this for a long time. Just ask all the guys who played 3rd Strike for years even tho they didn’t like the game.
Are you saying that it’s illogical to play a game you enjoy and that everyone should look at how competitive it is first? I must have hit my head harder than I thought a few days ago.
People like you strangle the community and hinder progress and success. How is that logical?
An analogy:
Another big passion of mine is snowboarding. I’ve heard the same moans about it being mainstreamed and made accessible to outsiders and sponsorship and shameless tie-ins for YEARS and you know what? Snowboarding is in the *olympics *now, and I live in a place where there’s no snow 11-12 months of the year, but I have access to 4 year-round indoor and artificial ski-slopes within 2 hours of my house, and competitions, and a local scene and altogether more accessibility and affordability for something I enjoy.
Logical? I think so.
May have lost some of your precious “integrity” along the way…and I wince every time I see a snowboarder on a toothpaste advert denoting how “cool” and “fresh” it is, but I know the community isn’t dumb enough to fall for that stuff; they know it’s a trade-off for the greater good of the sport. Most of the FGC see this too, it’s easy to hate and resist change, it takes real integrity to accept it and make it work for you.
While I hate playing Mahvel 3 I could understand why people like it, It rewards aggressive rush that shit down type play which is exciting for people. I do enjoy watching it from time to time since it is hype. And everybody has X-factor (which I personally think is the worst mechanic in a game ever) which can make for unpredictable outcomes.
I play this game because its the only one that lets me make a team and play with all of my characters at once thats a fighter. One of the old KOF games had a mechanic with DHC’s or something i think it was kof 11. In any case its hype its fun and I fill like the skies the limit. They have systems in place in this game that allow you to break the game. Like tacs (which moved tac combos, to swag combos to infinites). In other games if a character did no damage they just did no damage in this game if someone does know damage you can raw tag, Tac, DHC and solve issues. No other game out there thats a fighter lets you do things to that extent like Marvel does. Its unique in that aspect. Plus Marvel community if full of ass holes and I like assholes!!!
@Thelordisjesus I see your point. Fact however is that most people tend to play/support the games they enjoy first. I’m not claiming that what the majority does is right. But it’s not necessarily a bad thing either.
I don’t play umvc3 because I don’t enjoy it. When it comes to FG’s or games in general my primary question is whether I like it. Pardon my irresponsible reasoning, but that’s just my initial thought process when my goal is to have fun.
Opinion motherfucker, have you heard of it. I dont care how articulate you are in your responses. You say it is logical to play a game for years that you do not like when this is supposed to be something for your entertainment.
I say that shit is stupid.
You know something, not everyone wants to spend their whole lives playing a fucking game they dont like just to be good. You know what that shit does for you in the long run, absolutely nothing.
You may have better foundations for fighting games but when this is something done for personal entertainment puposes and enjoyment(ie not something you need to do to get from day to day like a paycheck), what sense does that make.
For the record, I fucking hate Marvel so I dont play the shit. I play the games I do like and that includes SFIV and KofXIII along with some others.
You wanted to use some definitions so here you are,
Competitive - of, pertaining to, involving, or decided by competition
Competition - the act of competing; rivalry for supremacy, a prize, etc
Yes there is dumb shit involved that can make the games dumber but so what.
You know what is stupid though, arguing and complaining about what other people do in their free time for their own entertainment.
Stupid - tediously dull, especially due to lack of meaning or sense.
You know what I find funny, the people that were on top then are still on top now and they are not the ones I find complaining and bitching the most. The ones that are complaining and bitching the most are the people that thought they were good and are losing to the people they call “scrubs” alot.
Because these ppl are terrible human beings that need to open up kickstarters to support their habit of sitting on their ass all day playing shitty win button designed video games and/or spamming these forums to death with terrible image post and wack ass slang.
@thelordisjesus, 3rd Strike used to be a game ridiculed for ruining SF fundamentals and being a parry fest etc, Marvel 2 was buttons mashing game and CVS2 was roll cancel spam. I play Marvel 3 because it is interesting to me and the fact that so many characters are still playable this far into the game is very interesting for me. It’s not perfect, but neither was 3rd Strike and I’m sure I could beat everybody in this thread in 3rd Strike without having played it seriously for years.
