Not trolling, legit question to the people who play this game

Personally, I have a lot of friends who play it, so I just play it for shits and giggles now.

the game is really bad, stupid, and barely enjoyable because i dont need to worry about alot of variables compared to tekken and kof, but i can watch it being played at the highest level and appreciate it, and i think the further the gap between the top tiers and the rest of the cast the better, i would rather see a million mame teams like chris g, pr rog and cj showstopper the whole tournament than seeing some retarded scrub thinking hes gonna squeak by with arthur hulk hsien ko, because at least with the mame teams you are seeing the game being played to its fullest potential and if you cant appreciate that then you evidently dont enjoy fighting games

Soul Fists and Foot Dives.

And Power of the Nova Force.

More like, every 3rd Game.

Looks pretty good to me, actually.

One day I pop into my friends dorm room in college. There are 5 people in the room and vanilla marvel is on the post match screen. The win count is like 162 - 87. I’m like oh. I guess we’re gonna be playing a lot of this game.
The only fighting games I had played up to this point were SC2 (which I played 100% alone) and smash bros everythings. And I wasn’t much of a smasher back then.

I play for a day and am pretty much lol-ing and awed by the pretty colors. The next day I start noticing game mechanics and wondering how the hell they work. After a couple of weeks I go to SRK forums and do some mild reading (I didn’t know back then that you guys don’t know what you’re talking about 99% of the time). I start watching some streams and catch the combofiend vs marn bionic arm match live.

I come to realize that this is more than something to play. Its something to watch. In some ways a spectacle and in some ways art. From that realization came the infinite motivation to be great at marvel. I convinced myself that if I sifted through the nonsense of competitive fighting games and worked my ass off I would be a chessmaster but instead of moving pieces in the local park I’d be kicking some ass. I could achieve greatness, winning evo would be immortality in some respect.

My immediate friends tapered off. A couple will still play it but they never desired to travel and play competitively. So I found myself emptying my very sparse bank account dropping 40 dollars to travel to events in order to get better all by my lonesome. Losing in tournament sucked and it still does. I’d get so salty and emotional to ludicrous amounts. And by any logical measure I haven’t progressed much. Going 1-2 at next level is better than going 0-2 I guess.

I find myself without a group of friends to play with consistently, no console of my own to practice on and spending (relatively) large amounts of money to keep up with this hobby. To keep playing marvel.

And I am going to keep playing marvel for another 10 years. However long there are other people to play it with. Any activity or hobby can somehow for some reason become an essential part of your existence. And that’s marvel and me. If I couldn’t watch it and play it and read and write about it I would be a better person, less volatile, less poor.
But I wouldn’t be myself anymore.

who cares about balance anyway

I’ve never played a balanced Capcom fighter that was any good

Hans that was goddamn beautiful.

I don’t enjoy this game much anymore but I still play it since its pretty easy to play an I enjoy watching it at majors, personally I think marvel is no way a good game, really the only thing I do like about marvel 3 is that it brought out alot of new faces an someone who sucks at sf can be good at this game

bwhahahahaha

a fucking video game part of your existance?

hahahah

I never said Tekken is better than marvel I was simply stating that it’s not as hard to get into as people make it seem is all. Like most fighting games. That being said I still don’t like marvel but for different reasons. But I could understand why people would like it.

I here I was thinking of closing this thread until I saw your post XD

It just needs the “You’re an idiot Starscream!” subtitles to go
(And just think about the fact that TF used to be in the Marvel universe lol)

ANyway, back on topic:

IT’S JUST A MATTER OF TASTE

Its like watching the news. Nobody cares about good news.

I wasn’t really responding to anyone specifically, just my general take on some stuff from the last page. I can see why people would like Tekken too.

Let’s see here:

  • TC makes an obvious troll thread.

  • Marvel haters come out in full force, even though the thread specifically addresses those who actually play the game.

  • TC has yet to be seen again.

Come on, people. This is GameFAQs level trolling you’re falling for. Get it together.

It’s as simple as this, which may surprise the fighting game community. If a video game is fun to you, you play it. If it isn’t, you don’t play it.

Marvel is fun to me, so i play it. If Call of duty was still evolving, i’d be playing it still, but after modern warfare 2 the repetition got old, and stopped being fun.

If the work being put into a game isn’t fun itself, then theirs no strive for me to get better. I didn’t take marvel to a higher level for a long time, and through repetitive play against friends who did put in the work, i learned the characters moves and options. The fun stays with me not by playing the same characters over and over, but by changing the playstyle i have.

Hawkeye/taskmaster/nova is an old team i used that had it’s own unique playstyle. It was keepaway, but focused on keeping exploding arrow and nova pulse on the field as much as possible, and maneuvering around said traps to keep the opponent at bay. Taskmaster offered vertical arrows to anti-air while i continued laying my explosive arrows and locking the opponent down on the floor with hawkeyes many horizontal arrows. Winning strategy? I got a few wins. Consistent? No. Fun? Yes, and that’s all that matters.

If your video game makes you not want to get a job because your always “working” on it, it’s not a good video game. This is all a different story if your able to make good money off it, but just because a game is classified in the “fighting” genre doesn’t mean you have to ridicule it as a “bad” game because it doesn’t follow your competitive mindset.

Op asked a legit question “to the people who play this game.” I’ve given my answer and many others of you have as well. I wasn’t looking into hearing people hate on a game because “their opinion must be heard,” and if you do hate the game but play it still, then your answer has been given as well, and we are done here.

I dont play umvc3, its not for me. I dont like how you can kill people in like 1 combo, and everyone has like a 100% damage combo, even the characters who dont have 100% damage combos use x factor to get them. Im more into games like AE and HDR, were its a lot more technical, cant kill people in 1 combo. Even in MvC2, pretty much mags infinite is the only combo that can kill people in 1 combo most of the time. Cable needs 3 meters, sent also. Storm doesnt need to kill people in 1 combo. If anything Id rather play MvC2 then Umvc3. When I look at Umvc3 its just a newer ver of Xmen Vs Street Fighter

Still wish CvS3 would be made or shonen jump vs Capcom would be made. They did make tatsunoko vs capcom, so if they can make shonen jump vs Capcom, and at least Jojo characters would be there

this is not true at all with regards to Marvel. this game will buttfuck in orfices that aren’t even your ass when you are starting out. even though they have scrubbified a lot of mechanics, this game is still merciless. every time you run into a player better than you, you look free and get destroyed for tens or dozens of games before you start picking it up.

it’s not like SF4 where your opponent has to be much better than you to make you look totally free… like there has to be a 20 level difference between you and them, and they will still frequently fail to perfect you or even beat you without taking less than 10% damage.

in marvel just a 5 level difference makes it look like you are trying to punch out god

I like umvc2
big fan of the changes they made to iceman and anakaris

That’s because Capcom has never made a balanced fighter in the entirety of there existence.

Well, except VSav, which I believe should be the poster child for balance. Even the bottom tier, as bad as they are, have enough tools to not feel like Marvel’s Wright, H-Ko, Chun, etc.

Game balance isn’t about characters being the same. It’s about all characters having enough tools to effectively perform a role. Marvel would lose nothing if more characters showed up in tournaments. I never understood how people can look at a large roster, find out more than half are just false options, and then see that as a sign of quality.

That’s always more of an issue of players than characters. I used the 11th best character in 3S for all 4 years I played competitive 3S (in a game that’s supposed to be only a 4 to 6 character game). You can see tiers and know tiers, and then there’s what you and the players choose to do.

A lot of it is bias more so than exactly where the characters stand on the tier list. If people are comfortable playing a character that works, they’re going to stick to it. Just like how people have stuck to Wesker, Taskmaster and Wolverine even though they are not considered optimal characters.

Kusoru and Frusty are still sticking to their characters and doing more work than the people who sit at home and wonder why their characters aren’t top tier. The bias will always surpass an attempt to make 50 characters just as good as each other. Which in a game with as many variables as Marvel, is basically impossible. Marvel still has a while to go and a majority of the cast is still not being played optimally. People are also still not playing optimally vs. the characters that are used the most now.
