Thank you N-Ken for all of the links. I’m going to look into those when I get the chance.
Here’s the thing: I realize arcades are dead, but at a certain point I just want to stop coddling people with the console mentality. Honestly, I think Japanese sticks are really good and all, but I’m less worried about allowing everyone to use their own stick vs. playing on an arcade board possibly in an arcade cabinet. So, just to let Portland (and Seattle if they come down and play) if I do get this, being able to have people plug in their own sticks is the last on the list of options for me.
Just to clear some stuff that I think I got from reading this thread, arcade only stuff like stored super with chun li, honda, and sotred ochio is in AE. You just need to do the special select option. Im pretty sure against standard OLD characters for st you can still tech throws just not older revisions. To get some old characters you actually need to do a trick to get them by holding start on and selecting super and then selecting the character you want. The real nastiness of that game is…
Ken and Dhalsim get to reversal super now, no more last special move you did coming out, O sagat fireball speeds all fucked up, and the really retarded way you have to do vegas wall dives (charge d, neutral (hit button here), up.) what the fuck! So anyway AE works, sorta, just as random as the other shit though.
DC has problems too with character sizes btw and random slowdown stuff, there is more that I don’t remember, dip switches definitely don’t fix everything.
This is why I never even brought up superguns. $400 for a Mas supergun and you can’t even use your own sticks. No need to spend money on one when the Evo standard will most likely be STHD anyway, regardless of whether it is a shit version or not.
While the DC version is not terrible, IMO it still does not feel quite right. Maybe we should get Beasley to play on it. He will let us know what the deal is after only playing it for 5 seconds.
Well, in the US A.E. I’m 90% sure that even OG characters make it so ST characters can’t tech their throws. It sounds like this new update of Hyper SF2 released a little while ago fixes all these problems. I know a lot of Portland people have systems that can play import games, but how many people in Seattle do? Next time I go up I can bring my PS2 and we can try it out. At this point, it’s worth a try.
I think the confusion about character sizes comes from the fact that the resolution is different and the sprites are scaled. However, changes in the sprites don’t (necessarily) change any of the game logic (movement, hitboxes, etc.) as there isn’t a strict relationship. Here’s hoping the Backbone guys (Stiltman) do what it takes it create a tournament worthy fighter. At this point, I don’t really care if it’s arcade ‘perfect’ or not, as long as it doesn’t have problems like CCC2 (speed difference, random glitches, input lag, etc.)
Mmm, point me to some directions or a schematic and I’ll take a look? You could be right but aren’t the supergun pinouts typically just neo geo ports which are db-15’s?
Yes Superguns typically use DB15s and many use the neogeo pinout, but to use a ps port you need to decode the signal from the controller. The only adapter Ive seen was one for neo that only supported 4 buttons.
Believe me Id love for you to prove me wrong so I could buy some from you, but if it were an easy mod to make they would be near standard, and the only person I’ve seen/heard of possibly making one is laugh says he MIGHT be able to make it but he still has to test out and order shit and itd be in the $100 neighborhood for a pair o ports.
