"Not fat enough? We can fix that!" Rufus Match-up Thread

Any help with facing a good Dhalsm? His range is really hard for me to get in there, every time I try Dive kicking, that hard kick always gets me.

There’s some advice on this thread, I think. The summary is be patient and fuck him up when you get the chance. Search the videos on youtube of Kindevu fighting Iyo at the nationals to see how frustrating it is for even the best Rufus players.

I’m have a hard time with anybody that turtles (Guile, Dictator) at the moment, among friends. You run after them all the live long day to rush them down and the stages are so big they run away. I need to work on my execution so I can get the dive kick > st.MK > st.HP xx HP Tornado combo down.

One thing about the Ryu match up- its all fine and dandy, using vertical jumps and tornados to close distance, but when you’re sure that a fireball is coming, forward jump fierce (and not dive kick) is the move to go for.

Main reason being that it has much longer hit stun, so you can hit Ryu on the head and still land and combo, as opposed to the dive kick, where if you hit him too high, he’ll block/reverse DP by the time you hit the ground.

im ranked number 2 with rufus and ken being my mains

i just wanted to post that C.HP and neutral HP is your best friend when tanking this match

The dive kick if cross-up will beat any giefs that are larriet happy

Most important thing im not bad mouthing but the thread above states that if someone green hands you ex or normal (DO NOT JUMP) just spam neutral throw

You will always beat his 360 command throw and rufus’ throw with the head smash creates great distance meaning you can throw in more C.HP making him lose a lot of health getting close to you

How are people using the st.MK that makes it “godlike”? I’ve yet to find a way to incorporate it into my game.

Punishing a blanka ball with walking forward and c.HP is so hard. such a tight timing, any tips on pulling that 100% of the time?

Online it is too hard because of the latency. As soon as I see the ball coming I block it but you get hit anyway. Makes this matchup a headache online. Means your better off relying on tornados to beat balls online even though the damage sucks.

I’d like to know this as well. As far as I’m concerned it’s a pretty meh normal with limited use.

I’m going to scour the thread for Boxer tips. He is my most hated matchup by far, it seems like I can’t do shit versus him.

Punishing Blanka’s overhead ball when blocked with walk forward cr.HP is easy.

But Cr.MP beats his rainbow roll anyways :slight_smile: No need to walk forward cr.HP.

You can ultra after blocking rainbow roll if it hits you and bounces off the front of you (i.e it isn’t crossing you up) I think good blankas are probably going to position it so it crosses up though.

Found some hella interesting stuff today.

Ryu/Ken

Jab Snake Strike beats out Hurricane Kick. Especially when you reversal Snake Strike.

Bison

When Bison Headstomps you can Cr.HP to make it whiff. If you are moving backwards you can cr. MP to beat it out.

Tornado beats out scissor kick too. The timing is the same as Blanka Ball.

Guile

Not tested completely yet but Flash Kick may not have the homing properties that Shoryuken has on wake up.

Gief - Lariat blocked at close range (like about 1/4th a character distance… like the helecopter is above my head). What’s a good punisher?

I try to punish with QCF KK, but I got hit by the copter. Dunno if I screwed up the execution…?

One more issue. Had this fucking horrible Honda crossing me up over and over and over with that stupid flying butt move. I blocked them, but could not punish?!? Is that safe of block wtf??

Oh and did someone say you can punish Blanka balls with c.lp? Are you sure that works, cause I tried that and got stuffed. Hard timing or something?

try fragance palm against gief’s lariat.

I don’t know about the honda ordeal

it’s cr.mp that beats the rainbow blanka balls.

try focusing honda buttstomp. I don’t remember if the game autofaces you the right way to hit him after absorbing a crossup, though.

Far stand Fierce. I’m sure this has been mentioned a gajillion times in this thread.

Far stand Fierce from max range consistently beats out Lariat even if the spin hasn’t finished.

What makes it even better, is that far stand Fierce also beats/trades with most of his air attacks, so you can seriously win Zangief matches, just zoning him with 1 button.

Try holding a focus attack while he’s on the way down, then front dashing if he lands behind you, or releasing if he lands in front of you.

You can definately stop (not punish) Blanka balls with c.LP and s.MP. Its harder with s.MP and you need to anticipate the ball. c.LP can be done on reaction if you’re far enough.

Its probably much easier in arcade than it is on with online lag tho o.O

Cr.MP beats it clean unless you do it really late (like he is practically on you). Even crossups since you face him.

About the Gief thing. HP at that range? I’ll test it. I am ducking underneath the flying copter arms, mind you. Very, Very close. I would think that I could QCF KK but everytime I went for it I was hit before the move came out. I wish I had a partner to test this stuff with :confused:
