"Not fat enough? We can fix that!" Rufus Match-up Thread

Top level Akuma.

I can’t even get in on this offense and runaway.

  • “Defense” isnt a word that can be used when his Teleport can barely be punished, even when anticipated, so his defense would be being far from me.
  • The amalgam of fireballs that, if I jump one and he has meter, he gets a free EX Demon Flip HP for great damage.
  • The goddamn jump-forward air fireball into forced demon flip mixups on block OR hit (hit = combo).

This match seems pretty tight.
How do I approach it?

I swear EX Snake strike has a shit load of invincibility frames, I just waited till Akuma got near with a fireball then EX his face off. Makes them think twice before jumping towards you with a fireball.

i hate akuma.

akuma is the new ken.

against fuerte, can’t you just spam jump back fierce?

I’m not sure if this has been mentioned, but I just found out that you can use Rufus ultra to beat Blanka’s Ultra. Knocks him right out of it.

Finally getting some traction on this match up and I am + now against a friend of mine who’s a Blanka player (thanks for the tips, NB2).

^^

Only when Blanka’s rolling on the ground right? You really need to sweetspot right when you land, trying to counter it from afar is dangerous since he can be unpredictable with charging it up.

If anyone’s having “issues” with countering Balrog’s EX Dash Punches with Ultra, wait right until he’s about to hit you, so SOS’ invincible frames overlap with Balrog’s hitting animation. Otherwise, his EX dashes will absorb one hit and knock you out of Ultra.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, I messed up an EX Messiah, LKfu FADC Ultra and did EX Messiah FADC EX Snake Strike. All of them hit on Balrog, but not on Ryu. Anyone knew about this already?

edit
Finished testing this, lol, yeah it’s character specific, here are the results:
All hits connect on: E. Honda, Vega, Balrog, Abel, Rufus
Only 2 hits for: Gouken, Blanka, El Fuerte, Gen
1 hit on: Everyone not listed under any category
NO HITS: Rose (lol)

Here are your numbers:
434 - EX Messiah, LKfu, FADC, EX SS
506 - j.HK, st. HP, EX Messiah, LKfu, FADC, EX SS

That’s good info! I thought I was timing it wrong on Dhalsim but got it right all the time on Vega. Figured it was severely character-specific.

Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that. Yes, the Blanca was right on top of me when I pulled it off. I was too happy and surprised when it worked out to post the exact circumstance.

Thanks for breaking it down! I see I got pretty lucky there haha. Blanka Ultra rolls at about 100000000000 mph haha.

Hmm so I’m playing a Zangief on live today. WTF, my s.HP is trading every time with his j.HP, yet before I was able to stuff it clean completely 90% of the time. Is there a trick to the spacing/timing that you can hit it 100%?

My game was a little off, but even still I found it odd we litterally traded hits 100% of the time.

Oh that is hella useful. I hate eating the block damage on that thing waiting to counter. Do you have to start it late IE as soon as ball is about to run you over or does it not matter?

I agree with Parryall, this is useful to the highest degree.

Now to test when it beats it.

Treat it like Ultra-countering Blanka Ball or Balrog Dash or Honda Headbutt. Except for the fact it’s really fucking fast. Your invincible frames’ll eat up one hit and you counter ftw.

Like I said, better to sweetspot Blanka’s landing point when he does it from a ways off, since if he charges, he’ll ram you before you can react to when he does let go early, or you do it too early and he rolls into you for huge damage.

Since reaper unncecesarrily opened a new thread on something that could have been posted here, here’s a followup to the Messiah Kick’s lk followup into regular/EX Snake Strike.

Awesome chart is awesome!

So it is when he is rolling. Hmmmm. Will have to try it online, but god damn is it scary.

Ok got a new question.

So vs. Gief, if he blocks EX Messiah, can all 3 followups be SPD’d/Final Atomic/Ultimate Atomic’d?

or lariet’d -_-

Gah, I played some casuals with Sly today and got raped. Like utterly raped in the buttocks.

I never play Bison match ups so it was an eye opener to what Bison can really do.

Crossup into 1/5th hp hurts.

It seems the air is too risky for Rufus in this matchup so I don’t know. But the ground is just as risky gah.

Or I could just be hella bad.

I haven’t played my rufus against bison lately, but it just seems like rufus would murder him. bison has good priority in the air, so if you’re getting beat out clean then stop. Bison sucks on his wakeup game and Rufus is real good at pressure. Once you knock his ass down/get in close then its almost free rush down unless he decides to waste Meter. even then, if you keep with the cross divekicks he will lose his charge and will have a real difficult time getting out of your patterns.

Is the timing weird for the divekick after the first part of the sweep is blocked? PLayed in a tourny last night and I could not jump out of the sweep for the life of me. I would either get hit by the second part of the sweep or i would still be blocking low. (Sadly i lost that match in the single elim tourny.)

Eh, I think the match is pretty even. Both have good, damaging anti air options. Bison’s legs have a little more range, and you can’t divekick spam without getting HK’d a lot. The only thing that holds Bison down a lot is no pocket Ultra. He’s got 1 combo/link into Ultra, where you’ve got like 15. Just be careful when he tries to zone you, and don’t fall for st. mk’s or hk’s.

WWHHHHAAAAAATTTT???!!

Insurmountably useful!

beware tho, if your timing isn’t leet, blanka gets a free jump-in : /
