"Not fat enough? We can fix that!" Rufus Match-up Thread

Some stuff I noticed today that might be old news.

VS Abel:
HP Tornado beats Wheelkick cleanly. Very nice

VS Zangief:
f+HP beats lariat if done at the correct distance (not to close to gief). Nice in the corner since it can juggle into Ultra there.

Someone asked this a couple pages back, but no one answered. What all beats electricity? I found this earlier in the thread:

And I found that EX Tornado is fine if the spacing is right when Blanka starts up the move. I played a couple of rounds with a Blanka and was trying everything but couldn’t find another thing that beat it clean. I started faking jump ins by diving short and going into EX Tornado. Made him more cautious about using it so I could start mixing up on him.

Is Tornado all Rufus has against this move?

Crouching medium kick beats electricity clean.

Do you guys know what moves can counter the following situations?

  1. Abel performs Change of Direction (fireball, p, p) move. You block the first hit, then wants to punish when he does the overhead.

  2. Sagat’s tiger knee combo string, wheres he can safely tiger knee you and he recovers really fast (A freind of mine done that to me over and over to show me some stuff and it was nasty). My friends were showing me how with Akuma, you can cr.mk to get under the tiger knee, but what does Rufus have?

I believe EX Messiah kick works on both, but is there anything else? I feel a bit let down that Rufus needs EX bar to punish in these situations.

Now I’m just theory fighting, but how about FAing after landing and doing nothing?

Or back dashing. Sure you don’t do any damage, but that’s only until you build enough meter for Ex messiah.

Against Ken I think i normally back dash after HP tornadoing. Sometimes crouch MK nails me though when I back dash. =\

I try not to HP tornado unless I need to get in anyway. For combos, I go with s.short> c.jabX2> s.jab> s.strong.

Also, if you’re spacing the the tornado and doing it from max range, I think you’ll be at a range where you can crouch jab him but he can’t crouch jab you on block.

C.HK beats electricty if you’re at max range, too.

Someone earlier in the thread that the stuff you can do off of st.LK > cr.LP (x2) > st.LP > st.MP is ā€œbrokenā€. Can someone please break down what you can do off it that is broken? Seems like a fairly standard block string but I might be using it wrong.

maybe by broken they meant because of all the options off that string. you can stop in at anytime and mix something in.

Frrrrrrunkis is 6 R’s chief

i know. 6 r’s was take…so was 5 and 7. so i went with 8.

carry on…

I did some research into Blanka’s ultra because I’m sick and tired of eating chip or random damage because of it online.

I came up with the timing to beat the ultra clean depending on where Blanka is when he lets it rip.

  1. Close. This is when he is close enough for the first low hit to connect. Just block that initial hit low. As soon as he rises up he is wide open for an EX Messiah to stop the madness.

  2. If he is far away- EX messiah beats it clean. Just wait for him to get close so the invincible startup snags that squirly bitch.

RTSD after.

Sorry if repost but I thought I’d share my observations/tests anyway.

So you can Ex Messiah him while he’s on the ground rolling at you? I never dared to try that since I feared getting a facefull of electrified blanka, but i’ll have to give it a try.

The intimidation factor will prolly get me in a match and I will end up rolling into him haha.

But good stuff.

Yeah you can beat it clean. I recommend trying it out in training mode just to get the timing into muscle memory but after that you’ll be snuffing ultras in no time.

If you are at the end of and under Dhalsim’s j.HP you can snuff it with cr.MP. Can’t remember if this was mentioned earlier but helped me tonight against a friend’s Dhalsim.

If I just focus upon landing, I absorb ken’s f+forward hit and then I backdash cancel, however, all he has to do is another f+forward which hits me again and he’s right next to me to pressure again or worse it hits me and I lose all that life.

If I backdash after the HP tornado, he does EX hurricane which hits me :frowning:

Lots of theory fighter here, cause I don’t have a version, and I only play in the arcade once, twice a week. So bear with me…

How about releasing the focus attack after absorbing the f+forward hit? Too far to connect?

How about not holding forward all the way when the tornado is blocked? I believe if you end the Tornado without pushed up against him, the palm will push you far away enough that you’ll be in range to crouch jab him from outside his crouch jab range.

Good post. Thanks.

How about doing Ex Snake Strike after blocking the low hit and he’s still in the air? Ex Snake Strike has something like 11 hits of invulnerability. Any chance you’ll snag him for big damage?

Edit:

I of course meant that Ex Snake Strike has 11 frames of invulnerability >_<

Hey good idea. I’ll try that out tonight and post up.

how do you punish blocked jab srks ? I find myself doind c.jab EX tornado but im sure there should be a better option.
