How do you guys deal with chun?

Her air-to-air normals a far superior to rufus’s making it hard to approach her.
In addition if she has ex it’s really hard to pressure, however making her waste meter meaning she can’t combo to ex-lightning legs, so I guess it’s all good.

I found j.mk a decent air-to-air v her.
My friend likes to neutral jump rh/hp to prevent me from jumping/dive-kicking.

Can’t use j.RH too much in this matchup for teh win :sad:

From my experience vs her so far, you need to pressure as much as you can when you have the opportunity, remember to bait ex spinning bird and keep the pressure coming. Chun will try to jump out of the pressure whenever there’s a chance, try to psyche it with a juicy jRH combo.

What do people think Rufus match-up scores are against the arcade and console cast? Is Blanka a 3-7, a 4-6? How about the others?

The japanese rate rufus/blanka as 5/5 but i just can’t see how that fight isn’t in blanka’s favor. Fighting against a good blanka is such a chore, imo. Maybe it’s because i’m impatient.

I don’t see the console characters too often and when i do they are typically not too good (though i’ve fought really good rose players)

I think it’s a chore moreso online.

I have no problems with good Blankas now. It’s the shitty ones that run away in lag all day and you have to chase them down. But now that I know how to stop the balls it’s no longer an issue. Once you get in you can put a serious hurting on that little green fuck.

only thing i would be careful of in this match is the EX soul spiral…it seems to have throw invincibility so it’s kinda like “her” EX messiah kick to an extent

if your timing is really good then you can punish soul spiral w/cr.jab into EX tornado but the timing is kinda tight…it has to be before her animation ends but after you come out of blockstun

the rose’s i’ve played don’t seem to use the air grab that much, and they tell me it’s hard to grab rufus because of his constant moving with dive kicks

it seems like her ground game should be paid attention to more and her AA less for some reason

oh also look out for her slide shenanigans

after losing to a couple of Honda’s, who were pretty bad (which says more to the matchup than my skill, I swear), I’m quite convinced I’m missing a crucial piece on how to beat him.

I played Reno (think he was on here, as Reno Fresh) and he msg’d me after saying, ‘just cross-up dive kick, it owns honda’, to which I started implementing that into my game, but still, butt pound just gets him out of the way. Am I doing the dive kick too late?

The usual scrub tactics from honda I get is, constant butt pound spam, to which when I focus, I usually get orichi grabbed. Some ticks into orichi, which I can avoid now.

I have also found that sometimes jumping back rh beats butt pound, but obviously not a good solution.

I have also also found that I just play dumb online, patience probably wins this matchup more than anything else.

You can punish honda’s head butt after a block with a low H.P most the time.

kesh, cr.MP beats out butt slam, just be patient, yeah, cr.MP him when you get the opportunity, HP tornado beats head butt in the same way it beats Blanka roll then rush that fool down when you see the opening

so check it out, recently my hardest matchup is against ken (no not the 8 billion scrubby kens online)…and so i’m trying to maximize damage off of knockdown setups, but i think the way to catch up is go toe to toe w/ken on the ground seeing as how you can’t really meaty ken at all on paper

in order for that to happen, i’m centering it around ken’s f+forward step in kick…the variant options he has afterwards and just plain out obvious places where he can just throw it out max range where nothing you do will beat it out at all

this is under the assumption that ken will NEVER jump ever, and any jump attempt by you will result in a shoryuken…any whiffed dive kick gets kicked in the belly button

any tips on that?

nice! As far as shoto’s go when they start their crossup patterns is ex messiah kick/Focus dash the only way to get out of them(outside of blocking)? I can see being baited into messiah becoming a prob once everyone online learns how to fight Rufus.

She can basically do that all match and it will really begin to get on your nerves. This is another one I think you need to be dead-eyed like Daigo. Play patient, creep forward, consistently blocking low then when she’s in range… BAM! I’d really like a run-down of how Rufus’ normals fare against her though; if I have time today, I’ll do some testing in training.

Ooh, something I just learned across at NeoEmpire about the Blanka match-up; copy-pasted from over there - you can stuff his Ultra with an EX Messiah Kick if he tries to scrub you out with his wake-up Ultra:

"Maybe it’s common knowledge, maybe it’s not, but here’s some stuff about Blanka’s Ultra:

  • If you’re standing right next to Blanka, you have to be blocking low BEFORE the Ultra animation begins, otherwise it will hit. This is the ‘stun’ part of the Ultra, it does no chip damage. You have no reason to block high on Blanka’s wake-up anyway.
  • When Blanka ‘drops’ down from the Ultra, then you need to start blocking high. He’ll then go into the roll and you’ll be caught in blockstun and eat a stupid amount of chip damage.

With Cammy, I’ve found a couple of ways of dealing with the Ultra from distance, which usually involve either standing at a range where I can safely backdash > Ultra on reaction or EX Hooligan past the roll part of the Ultra if I’m further out (which is a guess on my part).

But what you can also do is hit Blanka clean out of the Ultra from up close. After blocking the ‘stun’ hit (the one that hits low), you can do a reversal special that hits Blanka clean out of his Ultra, as he’s vulnerable before he starts to drop. Cammy’s Cannon Spike hits him clean out of it so I’m guessing stuff like SRKs will also hit it while EX Messiah or EX Banishing Flat or whatever will get other characters out of there safely. The best part is you’ll take absolutely NO damage and avoid that stupid chip damage at the end of the Ultra, which is what pissed me off most about it.

Like I said, maybe it’s common knowledge, but if it stops anyone losing at least one match to that stupid wake-up Ultra crutch all scrubby/lazy/shitty (delete as appropriate) Blanka players lean on, then my work is done."

Yeah i lost a match last night to the ridiculous chip damage of that stupid ultra. I thought I had enough life so i was like “hoho, i’ll just block and punish with ultra” when he threw it out randomly and was not happy when I so my chunk of life dissapear from blocking it. I should have jumped instead :sad:

Blanka sucks!

Jumping strong seems to do really well against her jump attacks too.

Chun’s jump is nice and floaty, so always look for the chance to Ex Snake Strike her out of the air.

Dive kick beats Ex Bird for free… Just aim at the spot between her legs. -_-’

Seriously. Dive Kick/Ex Messiah both put this match clearly in Rufus’ favour.

How about doing random vertical jumps when you’re max range of the f+MK. If he does a f+MK or fireball, you dive kick down. If he doesn’t, you land and you’re pretty safe. Then once you’re in range, pressure with crouch jab/far stand jab/far stand strong.

I also don’t see why you can’t meaty Ken. Just dive kick him such that you hit him right at the back of his head as he’s getting up. Fierce/Ex Uppercut will whiff, Jab/ strong uppercuts get beaten.

Also if he’s never jumping ever, you get to crouch HP/Fierce tornado quite a bit for free. If he does jump, I always do direct Ex Snake Strikes, rather than try to nail j.Roundhouse> Ex Snake Strike.

What’s people’s opinions on doing ‘psychic’ j.RH? I’ve seen a few people do these, land the kick late then combo st.HP xx HP Tornado which is nice but mostly just fortuitousness, but it’s obviously very punishable; and besides, it feels sloppy to me.

i found the secret :smiley:

focus the shit out of her. since her only armor breaking is the spinning back fist (which no cammy should really use) you can get a shit ton of focus attacks off.

If Rufus blocks Blanka’s slide, he can punish with an Ultra. In training, it looks like this will connect even close to the maximum range of Blanka’s slide. It has greater range than cr.MK xx EX Tornado or cr.MK xx HP Tornado, at least.
