Northwest VFers

I’m trying to organize a VF get-together at Versis on Friday night. I would love to setup a station for online play with two things in mind on that station:
-VFDC players can play Yosuke because many want to
-Portland players can play Seattle, because that would be cool

And then we’d have other stations where we play VF local. I think it would be quite fun!

Anyways, Frank, my gamertag is: Saint Chanchai

I look forward to playing with you guys and wish you could be down here.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to go on December 7th, but I’m trying for it.

-Chanchai

Yeah ggs Frank and hey, ring outs are totally legit. I shall get my revenge!!

Honestly, I am of the camp that believes there is no shame in Ring Outs. They are perfectly legit and they provide a good dynamic to a match. Being able to play with ring outs helps you eventually deal with a variety of pressures.

In fact, I love fighting with my back to the ring’s edge (though with Yosuke, he’ll always ring me out).

Two important threads:

“Portland VF Gathering - Friday November 23rd” Thread

“Fight Yosuke on Live” hosted by Portland VF Thread

for the rest of seattle VF plaers.
since we have no preppy’s party on the next weekend, I would like to get toghther another place if we can. is there anyone who can let us play VF at one’s house? if no one, I would be able to open it.

i’m game

I’m down for some VF5 today. I would open my place for play, but I’m over an hour north of y’all. If anyone opens their doors, say what time you’re available.

Could you PM me your number, Yosuke? Yours is one of the few I don’t have yet. >_<

good games to rayblade, thanks for tearin me a new one with vanessa today. Step kinda fucks me up sometimes.

Hey sup guys this is Jesse H. some of you might remember me from back in the SouthCenter/Lan Works tournys, anyways if I see you on I’ll hit ya up for some games peace.

Uh oh Mass Effect is definitely having a negative impact on my VF5 play.

Any VF going on later this week? I’m currently in vf5 deprivation since I’m getting my stick modded!!!

I always play online when i get the chance. Let’s hope for more potential VF players at Zach’s next gathering woo!

It’s been 5 days since Yosuke went back to Seattle and there’s a lot to be said. I had a great time, a busy time, and it was wonderful having Yosuke over! THANKS YOSUKE!

Yosuke

  1. Hope you enjoyed a true Thanksgiving Dinner at my family’s house. My family enjoyed your company and my parents told me they liked having you over and you were no bother. Thank you for being a good guest!
  2. I hope you like what you saw of my work and where it’s going. I think you can partly see why I’m so busy, though I don’t think you saw all the tasks I run around doing when I’m not at the place.
  3. Thank you very much for spending time with the VF players who came out on Friday and Saturday. I really appreciate the advice you gave to us, the games you played with us, and as always just hanging out and chatting VF. And I am practicing VF a bit each day, even on my busy days (even if it’s only 10 minutes).
  4. Your online matches were fun to watch. Especially against Konjou, Denkai, and Adam. And some others too! Thanks for doing the organized matches on Friday night! I think it was great that some VFDCers were able to play against you in an organized way, once in awhile.
  5. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
  6. Oh yeah, I THINK I AM GOING TO PREPPY’S ON THE 7th!!!
  7. I’ll see if I can drag Andrew over next week…

Rayblade

  1. Thanks for coming out and thanks for the equipment!
  2. Thanks for being a great sport about everything and I think we can rebuild a good VF community in Portland. It’s actually already here, we just need to organize. Also, Portland has some good VF players we didn’t know about, I think. Rat Goat has huge potential and already knows the flow of the game.
  3. Just remember what I said about dodging. That’s it  Another way to put it… You know that bad habit I have of doing rising attacks way too much, and with certain patterns? Something like that… You fix this in your game, you’ll be way way stronger and giving me more hell.
  4. Awesome matches Friday night, you really gave me hell when we played and I really enjoyed that!
  5. Thanks for bringing the Evo DVDs!
  6. Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Mackinzie

  1. THANKS FOR COMING OUT MAN, I LOVE THAT YOU LIKE VF!
  2. Thanks for providing rides and the cake you brought was great too, thanks so much. We’re gonna get more stuff going in the future
  3. You’re playing well, you just need to play more. To the point that you feel more in tune with your character, but it’s getting there. Your foundation is going alright, you just need to get more time in the game to improve your game for the time being.
  4. Happy Holidays Bro!

Sam

  1. It’s amazing the progress you made on Friday night. I know you soak things up like a sponge and it’s no secret how much I believe in your potential… but man, it was mad progress that I saw on Friday night. Whether or not the win/loss record shows it, I just saw it in how you were playing the game. KEEP IT UP!
  2. I want to play a lot of VF with you in December! We’ll try to make it happen.
  3. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Raishinken

  1. It was really great seeing you on Friday. I hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving too. It’s always fun with you around, a bit crazy too.
  2. Your Pai is and has always been very solid. At the moment, it’s the same advice I gave to Mackinzie, the only thing that is slowing your growth right now is time with the game. You know that soon I’m planning to provide you with a means for playing more VF5  Let’s work it out so we can see your Pai get insanely strong.
  3. You made it an even Happier Thanksgiving Weekend. Happy Holidays, man!

Shinryujin

  1. Rock Band rules! Thanks for bringing that over on Thanksgiving.
  2. Your VF game is always fun to play, we just need to all play each other more and enjoy the games. On Friday night, I saw a big difference when you started to squeeze the advantages you had. I think that was actually your biggest obstacle for awhile, you were delaying your attacks too much and so people hit you when they should have been interrupted by you. But that started to stop on Friday
  3. Glad you like “the show.” It’s a great series. I also have another series to introduce you to later.
  4. Any way you can get next Friday evening off? I know it’s hard, but I am trying to go to Preppy’s then.

RatGoat

  1. We met online after Thanksgiving. Belated HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
  2. You’re a lot stronger than you think. Your game is going to improve a lot with time and making sure your nerves don’t interfere with it. React more (which you are doing well), hesitate less (which is the nerves that kill you).
  3. I’m so glad that we have another VF player in Portland. But better yet, we have another really good VF player. Can’t wait till we all meet up and play.
  4. Think you might be up for a trip to Seattle next Friday? I probably can’t carry anymore in my car though…

Andrew

  1. Hope you had a great trip!
  2. Belated Happy Thanksgiving! Man, Yosuke and I missed you man…
  3. Thanks for the heads up on Monday.
  4. Want to go to Seattle next weekend? I’ll have to head back early Saturday.
  5. Looking forward to seeing you again soon, man. I’ll also have to show you “Gresham” – it’s looking great already.

All in all, last weekend was an awesome weekend for Portland VF.

-Chanchai

No problem. Thanks for leading me to buying an online ID. i am so glad you are coming.
If you are completely free on the day, I will be able to host you from the morning.
this time, I will be in the tournament, and chanchai is going to handle the tournament and be in the tournament. he can controll brackets better than I can.

I am looking forward to watching chanchai and frank play.

there might be a possibility that I might not be able to make it out on the 7th (I’m trying my hardest to make sure that I can make it) It’s going to be nice to play against some more people in VF =]. If the rest of PDX is on the same level or better than RayBlade, then I got my work cut out for me! =]

If we have a tourney at Preppy’s, I’m not sure if I’ll play.

I honestly would love to, but it depends on the field because the goal is more development of VF than anything else. And Ray has told me that in some cases, it’s probably best if I let others play so they can really feel the competition and development of serious play in a tournament.

But I so look forward to playing with Frank! I honestly have no idea what to expect and we haven’t played each other online.

If I end up not playing the tournament, then… We could go with a fun coaching format or even a team competition with coaches :stuck_out_tongue: That could be fun and nurture some VF conversations.

If @js (Andrew) comes along, I would LOVE to see him and Frank fight it out too.

I am also hoping RatGoat might be able to make it. Nobody in Portland has met him in person yet, but he’s actually good. Just a bit nervous. But playing him, you know he watches his videos and practices a good deal.

-Chanchai

Definitely looking forward to the 7th… hopefully I can bring my modded ex2. Haven’t played vf5 in over a week ahhhh!

PS- I’m requesting the following day off so I don’t have to bounce early.

This all sounds awesome, gonna make sure I don’t miss the 7th, and I hope you guys end up all making it. Would be awesome to meet RatGoat actually, I’ve been playing a couple matches with him every night, it’s amazing how dead even we are. Really fun playing people like that, I can tell every single fight we figure out one more thing about the other guys style and just step it up a bit, been getting a lot better cause of him.

And I want to play your lion some more, chanchai. I need some practice figuring out how to deal with that kind of rushdown. The two fights we had online felt like:
me: "He’s jabbing a lot, I should go into Tenchi and parry"
you: "I should attack low now"
me: “… dammit”

aRE rocket punches and tri -jumps allowed in this game?

>>chanchai

I am pretty sure you should be in the tournament. For me, this is going to be the last gathering that both Seattle and Portland players can attend with me. In this case, I suppose showing good matches for new players is much more important then development of VF. In my opinion, this will excite players who don’t know VF. In fact, Preppy got so interested in watching me playing VF5 online and easily defeating other players .

Also, getting experience from training and tournament is different stories. to be honest, I even don’t think you can properly do combos to players who are as good as you with pressure. this tournament will be a good experience for chanchai, too.
