Northwest VFers

Welp I picked up the game yesterday, and played a few games online. Who else has picked this up? I will more than likely be playing later today probably after 3pm. Feel free to send me a FR and yeah lets get this scene up and running again!

Finally played VF5 on 360 and I’m shocked that the online play is actually very good!

That said, I’m playing on a pad for now, so it’s really really frustrating… But workable… at least I’m still winning most of my matches, but it just doesn’t fee right with the 360 pad… especially the 360 pad… can’t even decide which is worse… the analog or the d-pad…

But the game is great and we’re gonna have to schedule some online matches. Though I don’t have a 360 myself. But I do have an account (but it’s not on Gold yet, will be tomorrow). My XBL account is SaintChanchai

The account I sometimes play on is VersisOnline4, but its a community account so it’s rarely me on that. But if it’s playing VF5, decent chance it’s me.

Man… I almost want to setup a live account and a pair of sticks for yosuke because he has a 360 at his place lol.

Go ahead and add me onto your friend list. It would be great to try to get in a couple of matches, for the most part I don’t really know where i stand in the game (yeah i’ve only had it for a few days but i managed to find some random combos and what not with eileen), plus any advice or tips from those that play the game would be awesome. I will be on tomorrow for most of the morning/afternoon.

So I should have my copy by some time in this month. Still oldmanning it up, but I miiiiiiiiiiight set up and Xbox Live account. Don’t know. Wasn’t feeling th EX2 so I got my $ back and decided to wait on the JP 360 sticks…wish I could use my T5 stick tho’…

How are the players online? Hopefully funny as usual.

Arghh! I must get in on this.

Based on our last session, I would say you’re a bit stronger than most of the opponents I fought against on Live, Femto. A good number of them would give you a struggle though.

However, there are good things you would learn from fighting all of them. There are quite a few that are much stronger at this point, but playing online would really help your game actually (I’m shocked that I’m saying playing a fighting game online would make one’s game better).

Common types of problems I’ve seen in players games:

-Most players attack too much. This is common knowledge anyhow… But most players will basically attack after being blocked and attack after being hit. The biggest problem are the players that’ll attack after being hit… You could hit them with a low punch, get a Major Counter (yellow flash) and pretty much know you’ll launch them with a launcher because they will attack for sure.

-Some players defend too much… Be wary that sometimes these are players just sizing you up for the first round. But some players will just defend all day and not really attack you much. They tend to last longer than the first type though. Look to see if they are lazy blockers (they only block high or they only block low), or if they actually watch the animations. Be careful if they watch the animations and play safe (punch, elbow, or throw until you hit them or block something big). Make sure you play the initiative (if they block your low punch, do something safe like blocking).

-Some players will never block low and furthermore, they’ll always attack high. Because these players are common, a lot of people have the bad habit of whoring low attacks online. Just remember that for those that never block low but always attack high, practice launching them appropriately or low-hunting them. Against players that always attack low, block the low attack and followup with a decent attack or even a launcher. Outside of low punch, most low attacks have awful recovery time when blocked.

-Some players like to do long range only moves. Long range moves are the sort of moves you should learn to block on sight anyways, so practice blocking these attacks as they come, based on what you see. Not because it’s always mid or always low, but because you see that it’s a low or mid attack. Punish them after you block the attack. Play patiently.

-Most players for sure don’t know the normal flowcharts… here’s a sample one for low punch for anyone who cares (it’s basic, but should give you an idea of how to play):

You low punch and it…

a) hits – do another attack, something like an elbow or a quick safe launcher if you want. Using low punch again is a waste in this situation. You can also throw if you know they block after getting hit.

b) it Major Counters (yellow flash) – do a good attack, if you want to risk a launcher, now’s an okay time to go for it. If they tend to block though, throw them–it’ll scare them from blocking if you throw them enough.

c) it gets blocked – block if you know they’ll attack. Duck if you know they’ll throw. You can also dodge if you know they always attack linearly after blocking a low punch. You shouldn’t really attack if your low punch gets blocked–you’ll get interrupted by more low punches, elbows, or a variety of safe pokes.

d) gets interrupted by an attack – defend! Blocking is good if you know a high or mid attack is coming. Blocking low is good if you know a low attack is coming. Dodging is decent if you know a linear attack is coming. Eventually, learning to do Evade-Throw-Escape-Guard is an option… but that might muddle your gameplay away from the basics… or become a great habit.

Anyways, just some tips. Not claiming they are the best tips, but they might help some people out.

long time no see.
I am afraid to say that I will be leaving from seattle sooner or later. I don’t think I will be here until next summer. It may be until this winter( I mean until january) or may be until june.

It depends on my school. I hope I can go to portland before leaving. I will let you know when I leave

Seriously considering getting this game plus the 360 stick from my work. If anyone can’t find a copy of the game I would be happy to get one from my work for you. Also, my store has a 360 stick, and I’ve heard those are hard to find? At any rate if I don’t end up picking it up, and someone wants it, I’ll be glad to grab it for them.

Bump. Started a GT. Nick post your GT up. Gray Fox and Frank gonna add you guys tonight.

Always down for VF5, usually in the evenings. GT- Bodom Soldier

edjge sent me a message that he wants to play VF5 with hardcore players. well, just feel free and ask me if you want to come and play. As long as I am here, you can visit me (almost all) all weekends. I have no class on friday, so if you would like to play me on thursday night, just ask me. I will be fine.
you will need to bring your stick so that you can use a stick. I only own one stick.

I can pick anyone up on the Eastside (between Issaquah and Lynwood) who wants to play some vf at Yosuke’s later.

what time?

it would be like from 5 or 6pm? we talked about it last night, so I don’t know any detail hehe.

I live in an dorm at Edmonds community college. if you feel like coming, just let me know. this one is going to be so small because I did not announce.

my address is

19705 68th Ave W
Lynnwood, WA, 98036

ok.

first of all, we are getting some new players in seattle. as players increase, eventually people will want to get together and play VF5 sooner or later, and I think this is the time that people will have a gathering.

well then, we need people who can open one’s house and let us play like preppy or tail. Then I considered myself if I can do that.

I don’t have a car, my dorm keeps XBOX360, and I have VF5 and one stick, etc. while I considered, I may be able to do that. Besides, I don’t have a car, and it is the easiest way to play ve5 hehe.

It depends on if ohter students use TV though.

Today, I am going to have a sudden gathering. it is going to be a test one if I can do it.

Next week or lest of weeks…while I am in seattle, I would like to have some gatherings.

Fortunately, I have no class on friday, so I would be able to have it on thursday night. becaues I like going to preppy’s house, I don’t think I am going to have it on friday.

if you guys have any suggestion( such as what day is good for you, what time you prefer, etc), please let me know.

Your clone posts between VFDC and SRK amaze me, Yosuke

Let’s concentrate on a tournament scene here. First of all, I’ve been directing players from VFDC to SRK if I see that they are from Seattle or surrounding areas (ejdge being one of them). If anyone can go to Gameworks more often, then please ask VF5 players if they are interested in meeting other players (if they aren’t just button-mashers). Anything to increase the number of players we have around here.

Now, onto tournament organization. I have tournament programs on my computer, and I can print some brackets out, as well. I know that Yosuke will only be able to show up for about two more poker nights at Zach’s, so we need to figure out who is up for running the tournaments after Yosuke leaves. My suggestions would be among myself, Frank, and Ejdge, since he seems like a relatively dedicated new player in the scene. I also thought out some things that will be easy to decide on:

-Call in for early registration PM Yosuke or myself for cell numbers.

-No seeds will be decided except yosuke (should he choose to play), who immediately sits in a semifinal seat, taking byes until then.

-Sticks must be brought to the den. No searching for a decent japanese stick when your turn finally comes up. Play on what we have supplied for you or bring your own stick. I will make an 360 PCB and bring it along with a screwdriver to convert any of your sticks into 360 sticks for the purpose of VF5. PM me if you’d like to get a PCB off me for $35. I have spare 360 controllers to get rid of, so this is a nice opportunity.

-Matches will be organized around players’ schedules in other tournies still going. If someone is in Marvel, for example, either the first available alternative match should start or casual play can commence for people to learn about things that went wrong/how something worked that they didn’t expect. This is a learning experience, after all. Crazy to think that VF5 is technically the most complex fighting game there is.

-If the tournament is over and majority vote calls for a different game to replace it (Tekken, GGXX, etc), this will be done after participants get a round in with the experienced players to learn hands-on what could’ve been done differently, etc.

I’m not saying that these are law or anything, just listing off things for discussion that I feel would be best for the VF players, since there seems to be a strong new calling for it (and I’m quite into VF5, myself).

ok.

I will continue writing here. I guess it is because I am Japanese. I am thinking to use a different tournament form.

First, we correct the number of players. second, we separate players into small number of leagues. for example, if we are 12 players, I will make 3 leagues which are 4 players. then each top player goes to final tournament with a bye. second and third players just go. fourth players. I am sorry you are out. the final tournament is not dobble elimination, so even though you pass the league as a top, you may lose as 4th or 5th.

the benefit and advantage of this form is that we can still count people who get to preppy’s house late… such as after the tournament start 30 minutes. ALSO! very beginner can play more than 2 matches hehe. it IS very important! it is very small competition, and we don’t need to estimate our strength each time. it would be a good idea that if we have both of the tournament every other week.

well, if we start the tournament 10 players and make 3 leagues, it may be fine if we know someone is coming.

I can run dobble elimination one, but we will need to wait players show up, right? it would be waste of our time. we can wait until 10, but no longer than 11. in this case, people eventually get into the tournament when they get there.

I will show you how it is on friday.

Dont listen to Yosuke, Its not hhis skills that win. Its the Game genie that is implanted in his palm that does all the work!!!

hello guys.

ejdge asked me if we can meet this thursday night. However, I sometimes enjoy with Japanese friends in my college. well,I can make a gathering this thursday, but Honestly, I don’t want to play with one players for 6 or 7 hours straight. If you guys can get together more than 2 players, I will have a small VF party this thursday. If you bring a Ps2 pad or stick, we can play KOF94 to 02 or maybe other games on my computer.

Also, julian asked me if I am ok to play VF5 on sunday. However, I don’t think I can have 2 gatherings in a week.

I am available form 3 PM until 10 or 11 pm on thursday. this time schedule might be changed by wednesday night. i would be fine as soon as I wake up on sunday.

If you have any intention to come, please let me know and write which day fits for you.

hey! why don’t you come to seattle and play with other VF players! we got so many new players here, and they attend preppy’s party! I guess we can use one big screen all night if you guys visit us!
