I had a question (outside of this thread) from Mackinzie about Lau’s b,f+P+K.
I haven’t toyed with it myself, but I looked up some info sources and this is what I found out:
b,f+P+K is a strong Sabaki. This move sabakis High Punches and High Kicks. Furthermore, it is a very good sabaki because it has a large window which will sabaki the proper attacks. The sabaki window starts early in the execution, which means that this move can be used to sabaki in many situations–including low disadvantage situations. You can use this move during a basic poke exchange if you are sure the next attacks on you will be a high punch or high kick.
Upon sabaki, your opponent should crumple. The followup combos are pretty easy with practice, the most damaging being:
b,f+P+K (sabaki) --> CD, DF+P, P+K --> (F held down already) F+P,b+P,P
This damaging followup combo is pretty standard. DF+P,P+K --> P, b+P,P is an easy high damage sequence that should be useable against slammed and crumpled opponents.
Looking at the frame data of b,f+P+K I can see that this movie is a high risk, high reward move. You have to be very confident that a high punch or a high kick is coming your way.
Here are the dangers of the move:
*It’s a slow attack with a very long execution time. It runs the risk of being interrupted by other standard attacks such as low punch and elbows.
It’s a linear attack, it can be evaded either way. Combined with the long execution time, this gives the opponent a lot of time to evade.
Another problem with it being a slow attack and linear is that it leaves Lau very vulnerable if the opponent evades it.
It’s a high attack, which means it can be ducked under and you run the risk of being punished before your move even ends. This also makes it vulnerable to 0-frame throws.
If the opponent blocks it, you are in Nitaku (50/50 situation), your opponent will have a good advantage over you if he or she mixes up mid attacks and throws well.
Thanks for the advice… I agree, it’s very time consuming in the game to learn anything. I grew up with Street Fighter so I have an idea of play styles, but this… this is very foreign. Training mode is redic.
I haven’t actually seen that combo list. Some of those combos require perfect timing. The :r::r:+p+k is hard to land. Just been using blackbook combos so far. I’m going to have to start practicing buffering in elbows and punches a lot more during in-fighting. It’s weird having to buffer in moves instead of doing them on reaction. Plus have to look at the list for moves that are good for catching back and front evades.
Be on in 10 minutes. Can’t believe this thread is still going:rofl:
Anyone see the new stuff that’s being added to R ver.B? If not, Sarah’s idle animation looks better but still needs work, the camera is changed so it’s more of a side view and old moves have new animations pics are at VFDC in the Gallery Section.
Pre-Buffering for me feels like reaction, because my reaction is slow lol. But yeah, it’s mainly an example of what I do in my head to compensate for what might be a lack of reflex–instead of doing an elbow on reaction to a blocked low punch, I do it on reaction to a low punch I am about to block. With practice, the timing felt pretty good and after awhile, I think I was doing it more or less on reaction.
However, the hard things to do on reaction are picking stance specific combos, but at least with Lion I’m about 80% or more on that, but it took a long time! It’s hard to read stance in the air, but it’s such a valuable skill to have and I’m glad Yosuke taught me to train it.
The combos in the article I linked to you are definitely good to practice. They are the best (or at least close to the best) combo for each opponent.
I think there are only 4 cases where ff+P+K applies (and probably why you can’t nail it as much as you want):
Against Pai (end with db+PP,b+PK)
Against Aoi (end with PPb+PK)
Against Lau (after knee, you do P(G) twice in a row before doing ff+P+K–end with DP)
Against Lion (after knee, you do P(G) twice in a row before doing ff+P+K–end with b+PK)
ALSO, and this is important… Pre-Buffer FORWARD during the knee, you want it already held down when doing P(G). Think you already know this, but always worth reminding.
Oh, I’m still not good at making time and at the moment, I’m on X-Box Live Silver (I play on Live through an account at Versis).
I might play in some of the other qualifiers over the summer if I get Live Gold and more time frees up. But it’s hard making a commitment (and I mean a commitment to the later events of WCG) with a lot of the things going on for me this year.
If I compete, I would like to compete with the mission of making it to the regional or national events
Dude is growing out the hair. Also put on a little weight. It’s good to see him become more American. No hate, just an observation. His presence in the NW is missed.
GGs Nick, Ray, Jetay. Vanessa is so annoying. Frustrating when you don’t know the strings or how to fight characters. Thanks for helping me Nick. Appreciate it.
