Okay, so it’s kind of looking like SoCal GG scene would be interested in this assuming we have
A. A date and location confirmed,
B. Guilty Gear confirmed, and
C. Housing of some kind (which, since this is two days, we’d probably need either way for Seattle.)
I’ll admit that only two or three people have responded thus far, but that’s with the minimal information that this is in the works. I’m certain that we’d get more response if anything were for certain, but since it’s a long drive or expensive planeride, we need to give them plenty of advance warning.
Assuming that a lot of them could show, this is an argument for Guilty Gear’s inclusion.
It would be a lot more appealing for other scenes to come to this event if they know ahead of time they get the chance to play all of the top Seattle Mvc2 players like – Kuan,Row,Jmar,Rat,Cody,Thong etc because you would draw a much bigger crowd specifically from Cali and Nyc regions.
That’s a very good point.
Even though that would attract many people from all over…we can’t just simply depend on them.
So how about Dec 1st and 2nd? Just proposing a date so we can get started.
Also, I agree with everyone that is saying we need to learn to crawl before we can learn to walk. Let’s not call a december tournament a “major”. Call it a “tournament for PDX and SEA people that like MvC2 and ST and another game”. It’s just not going to work if we try to make the national champs for 9000 games.
uh…I’ve been saying that the entire time.

Mr Beasley dec 1-2 is the dates for NEC, seems like a bad date cause that immediately eliminates any EC from showing and probably some WC too.
2nd Everyone advocating 4 trillion games and shoot for the sky and etc, most of you are fairly new to the scene, this has been done before countless times and I cant recall a single event that came in trying to be Evo jr that has succeeded by any standard, they have all ranged from slight to collosal failures. NWR did what it knew(it was basically a lanwerx tournament biggie sized) and succeeded back in the day, try and recapture that and dont focus on trying to appease everybody and put 12 games in.
And as a specific point instead of a general one, including smash is an absolutely horrible idea, they take a large amount of resources and are completely seperate from the 2d fighting community, you might as well have madden or halo as it accomplishes the same thing, MAYBE brings asses into the seats but it has no relevance as far as a 2d tournament and is a detriment if anything.
When you try to please everyone, you please no one.
I think realistically, spring is the best time. That gives us months to sort out our thoughts with some brainstorming. Winter seems like right around the corner. For as chaotic as this thread is currently I think we’ll have to shoot for a later date.
Here’s food for thought. Have we even decided who’s running what games? What days each game will be running? Who’s supplying the equipment?
A lot of the ideas in this thread reminds me of like a shotgun wedding or some shit.
ok, who’s gonna step up and start pulling shit together?
I would be happy to do it if no one else is
I propose March 15th-16th(the ides of march!) with five games: Marvel/CvS2/ST/3s/T5:DR
We could run it with qualifiers on the 15th, finals on the 16th, OR half of the games on the 15th, half on the 16th
Free space in Portland is better than any space in Seattle, so I say we go for that
We can deal with equipment and TVs when it gets closer to the date of the tournament
I think we should definitely have some kind of BYOC set up, even if it is a small one
$10 cover fee, plus $10 per tournament? Prize structure: 50/25/15/10?
I could set up a pre-registration form with paypal, to really get an idea of how many people are coming
of course, we could still have emergency registration on the day of (for an inflated price, of course!)
Come on people, lets get this going
At least your taking charge. Trying to get things ROLLING!
Damn my inability to rep you like crazy!
All I hope is that if this doesn’t do so hot the first time, is that people don’t freak out and give up. Even if we meticulously plan this out for a long time, things will happen that we can’t prepare for. I thing it’s imperative that we not give up because of a low turnout the first time, etc.
Please drop the smash stuff. It’s not a “2d fighting elitist vs smash” thing at all. The game is beyond the scope of what we are trying to accomplish. Shit look what it did to evo. All hate for smash aside it simply detracts from everything we want from this.
Like others have said I think we should stick to mvc2/st/3s/cvs2 for now.
I think gg could find a home at the next event, but this is all too much too soon for 12 games.
i still wanna run a Neo Geo Battle Coliseum tourney at this event whenever it takes place, i have at least 2 TV’s to my name and will have at least one PS2, i push for this particular SNK game moreso than lets say…KOFxi because i personally feel that its a unique fighter among the SNK stable in which it has very few games and game engines to compare to, its a major SNK title thats been released within the past several years since SNK’s “ressurection” that thought and effort was put into, its mechanics and subsystems dont dictate the game as much as player skill, the tier listing is not as strict as KOFxi or MvC2 so most people can jump in and play, it will have a US release next month, its been generating steam in the US for at least a year, and it has a certain charm to it along with substance due to the character roster, and last but certainly not least…its not a KOF, therefore one doesnt need to try and decide with “version” of NGBC to play, there is only one NGBC and its a good game.
Might want to see if there’s any interest in a smaller NGBC tourney before trying to bring it to the big one
im runnin one at Preppy’s on Friday, 9pm-ish, im bringing my own tv for this purpose
Wait, so if we bring TVs, we can run side tournaments?
Because I have two or three TVs that I could run GG on, if no one objects to it.
MASTER P-GROOVE is N-KEN ??? OMG …So many questions answered !!!

Yeah, I think one of the biggest problems we had with WSR (Loki’s thing) was that he tried doing 10 things at the same time, and half the time I didn’t know what the fuck was going on.
I would suggest game discussion be limited to the Games to have at the NW Major (assuming this happens) thread and not this planning thread. If your cute attempt to get GameX be part of it derails planning, Jetay and I will slap you.
You heard it here 1st folks! I got permission to start slapping folks! you have been warned!
If we let NGBC in over GG or Tekken, I will be angry
no offense, Nate, I’m sure you understand
BUT HEY GUYS, WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE DATES OF MARCH 15TH-16TH? IF WE DECIDE ON A DATE, WE CAN START MOVING FORWARD WITH THINGS!
March sounds great. Thats when we’ve had the regionals/larger tourneys in the past if I remember right, and it worked out just fine
