Northwest Majors: June 28th at UW

Theres a bit more to discuss / work out. But I think I can schedule the rooms early as well as try to work out a deal on the hotel that the university owns to get a cheap rate… (if we get a lot of people that is… and run out of floor space in everyones apartments…)

Where the entry fee goes is also important, because it would probably need to goto the club’s funding (and then use that for possibly food / etc after the event?)

I’m a not opposted to side tournaments, but I think if we can guarantee seattle comes down and cali comes up, that GG will be justified as an official tourney. I’m bringing 2 TV’s and theres more where that came from, it’s really easy to accomodate that.
I also advertised to some of the up-and-coming southern oregon guys at the anime con… they’re dedicated players who drive 2-4 hours to come to the anime con and play because thats the only place thats reasonably close to play.

And I agree with the “16 people” being a good turnout. We need 32-64. we pulled 32-ish gg players, 106 ssbm scrubs (I was top 8). SSBB will bring in the numbers (economically good), and I think since theres the space, if they are self-contained we can still consider to have them.
Several of them do play other games. Not all of them are bad folks. Really.

Also - we need an equipment check thread. Someone should start one, I’ll start one if I’m free later today.

Basically what I’m getting from this thread is the poll results shouldn’t matter because certain games either aren’t on there, or aren’t winning. The results right now, I’d think are pretty decisive.

I still think May sounds better than march. Much nicer to students like me. March screws with finals prep winter quarter.

Damn.

Friday is going to be bomb.

New development:

Team 3 might be making an appearance. So says Bill, that is.

Alex is saying that it wouldn’t be fair to overrule the amount of people that voted for Guilty Gear and Tekken just because you want to have a NGBC tourney. Which I agree with. Thirty nine people have voted on there and only you have voted for NGBC. Gather support, do what you must to raise the number.

Why have a tourney on Friday when you can just introduce people to the game and let them decide if they like it or not? The reason it worked with ST is because before actually learning how to play the game, everyone inherently thinks they know how to play Street Fighter, it’s not the same case with NGBC.

Yeah, I was thinking “wtf?” about the NGBC tourney. I’ve never even gotten the chance to play that game (though I gladly would), so I figured not many people are even moderately competent at it, you know? I’m totally down to play that game though, I’ve always been curious.

Alright, so what I’m going to do (as Kabukimono and Fatbear have been pushing for this…) is request the slot for dec 15-16. Its pushing it, and I don’t think it will be the big major that everyone wants, but it’ll be for 2 days, so I guess we can try to make it as large as possible. I’d say we’d only need 1 day since we’re rushing things…
Anyway, its not absolute right now, because we’re not guaranteed anything just yet… especially 2 consecutive days on the weekend.

But, they also told me that every sat from january to early april is booked, save for a few dates inbetween. So we can either be fitted in one of those free months, or try for this December date.

I’ll see what days they can allocate for us.

If this is a “dry run” what we can do is grab a bunch of seperate rooms and work from there if we’re unsure we’ll get more than 100 people come December. I think nabbing a bunch of seperate rooms for our december date will work if we don’t get this event to the scale we need it.

Edit : Here are the dates we can request the room.
Dec 15-16
Dec 22-23
Dec 29-30
Jan 05-06
Feb 23-24
Apr 19-20
May 03-04
May 17-18

Is anyone actually opposed to the 12/15-16/07 date?

If we can have that as a solid day for the event, I can tell the SoCal people I mentioned earlier. A solid date and a good amount of notice would definitely make them more likely to attend.

How’d this turn into a game release date thread?

Mod hammer came down on that and it’s gone now. For discussion of NGBC, use an NGBC thread. For discussion of my evil, use the Mod Note: No Thread Hijacking thread.

The Majors planning thread is for Majors planning.

That sounds good. However, is the event definately going to be 2 days?

we are reserving the room for two days as long as enough people get behind the date. And while hellsap mentioned that ten people isn’t very many I still think that it shows enough interest to start setting things up. If we wait for everyone to post we will never have enough people.

If you are interested in the even than it is up to you to spread word of mouth to more players to get them to come and play when the date shows up. I think we should stop focusing on the size of this so much as just doing it. The first one will be small there is really no getting around that, we just need to get it done.

Edit: So apparently I was wrong and size does matter… According to hellsap if we don’t get around 100 people or so, we may not be able to reserve the ballroom, we can get a grouping of smaller rooms but that would really effect the logistics. I believe currently Sam Y is working on a website for registration to have the tourney on the 15-16 of december, when that is done we need to get as many of you to sign up as possible by sometime in mid october.

Well, the problem with that is that Sam specifically stated for people who were against that date, to not post in the thread. I’m afraid that many people saw that thread, and did just that.

It seems like we’ve been backed into a corner already somehow.

Yeah, that might have been the wrong approach, sorry. Sam was being a little vigorous trying to get the ball rolling cause it seemed like no one would decide on anything. I think December is a good place to start to try and get as many people as possible because I believe the only way we are going to accomplish anything is to just set a date. Otherwise there will just be a lot of talk. But maybe I’m wrong, please don’t fault Sam for trying to get things started we really just wanted to see something that would benefit everybody take place. There should be nothing but <3 between all of the northwest. OH btw if anybody talks to BC it would be nice try and get more heads up from them if at all possible.

Nah no issue with Sam, I was just saying it might not be best to have that as a concrete date.

Yeah, I can understand that. Alot of people, (read 10) like it, and a few people (so far 2 maybe more) don’t like it. The only thing is So far more people have gotten behind that december date than anything else. And I just figured we should act on it if at all possible just get things rolling, nothings saying we couldn’t do this again at a later date, and it would be nice if we could get everyone to come out, but I understand if seattle feels this isn’t a possibility, if that is the case, we will I guess scrap that date and work on setting up another one. I just seems a shame to waste all this excitement that is building right now.

Of course maybe I’m to close this and am checking srk wayyy to much and should wait to see what more people have to say once we can get in contact with the part of the community that never posts on srk (I wish everyone would organization for this would be wayyyyyyy easier that way).

Sorry, I didn’t mean to sound like an ass in the other thread. I was just trying to avoid that thread crashing and turning into a spring vs winter fight. I’m most likely gonna go through with this event in december, but if people think spring has more potential for a huge event then by all means make it happen. There’s no reason to see this as a conflict.

I wouldn’t even call this december event a major. The only difference between this an any regular tournament is that we’ll have all the major games in one place instead of just 2 or 3.

There are still some hurdles to jump over, but hopefully we can make an official announcement soon. I’m coming to Zach’s tonight and I’ll talk to everyone about this and see what can be done to make this event happen. I want people to come into the discussion thinking “Ok, there’s going to be a tournament in December. What can we do to make it awesome”

Anyway, don’t stop discussing the possibility of an event in the spring, I’d love to see it happen.

Stay Tuned.

ok now this is what i see the event in portland as. I think we should keep this event and NWR 2 as 2 diff. events. If we have the event NWR 2 IN seattle people outside the PNW will be more interested because of the marvel scene. I really think a major should take place in seattle mainly because the PNW has been a major mvc2 region until recently. Yes we play other shit but marvel is serious business. Other advantages of having it in seattle is more Canadians, majority of seattle marvel players if not all, more people from cali and Ny will interested. Once we are more concrete on a few things I’ll pm people.

The thing about the event in seattle is the location which I would donate to. Plus we should have 3S, Cvs2, marvel, Tekken DR, ST in for sure and a date between mar-may. I recommend somthing mid march.
