I won’t support/attend this unless Melty Blood Act Cadenza is present.
2nd place at Evo baby ~!
Sorry I let you down Mandel… I at least destroyed all of the haters though.

Please don’t ignore Tekken. It gets a pretty big turnout anywhere you go, being the new, hot 3d game around. Honestly, if this is going towards Evo standards, including Tekken would be a must, and Smash would need some consideration (since it has more competitors than any 2d game at Evo). At least see how many people would show up! Guilty Gear definitely gets an honorable mention, but Melty Blood and such games are too obscure.
Keep the tourney in Seattle! If we are getting Vancouver players to come down, cutting another 4 hours off the commute each way would be nice. If Cali players are coming up, they’re dedicated enough to drive that much longer. Honestly.
As for a time for NW majors… I honestly think that Midwinter/a bit before christmas is a good point. Most of us college students have the longest break of the year around then (Dec 7 - Jan 2 for myself). Another consideration, since many people have a tight budget during the holiday season, would be early May. This doesn’t put pressure on students who need to prepare for finals, and gives a bit of time for people to recover funds from spring break, also giving time to learn and improve on the regionals before Evo West, etc.
If anyone disagrees with me on these, speak up. The more feedback on a good time for the regionals, the better.
Well…me and about a handful of people including the random junior sightings …there’s a somewhat of a small scene in puyallup that is.
Whats the benefit besides drive time for holding it seattle? In portland we have tons of space for free. Whats more important than that? That means there would be next to zero cost for tourney organizers so there wouldn’t be a need for much money to be taken off the top of the pot. Who doesn’t want to try and win more money?
Nothing but drive time, really. People have already said they were willing to personally chip in for renting a space. I’m sure that there’s a UW student or two that could arrange that much, too. Portland is fine for me, but I’d really like to see the BC players come down, too. I don’t know whether they would come down to PDX or not. I suppose I’ll ask them shortly…
Well to be honest, You are sounding like you just want to keep it in seattle so YOU dont have to travel! So what you are basically saying If Cali is dedicated enough to go to Portland, they can go to Seattle. But you telling me If Vancouver can come to Seattle, They cant come to portland?!?!?!?!?! That makes me think your thoughts are biased. You got to explain that better.
I really think Tekken is dead, I KNOW alot of people in your area stop caring about Tekken and i know alot of people over here stopped caring too. I cant speak for Vancouver " And to be honest, THEY ARENT EVEN SPEAKING FOR THEMSELVES " and i cant speak for cali but Cali is usually 3S and CVS2 country.
Having it in portland makes the most sense FOR RIGHT NOW, b/c of the free space that we can get, and unless somebody/somewhere has a better option, FREE IS A DAMN GOOD PRICE. It really makes stuff simplier b/c We already have the space here. If we have to go somewhere else and pay for it. Makes shit harder and we got to organize how we/someone else is gonna pay for it. Alot more thinking complication then we need if we gonna make this tourney big. If this tourney gets to complicated, its gonna be a huge amount of Fail. Take my thoughts as you will/
wtf is portland’s game anyway?
Everything?
When I was down there people changed games like every 5 minutes. At some point there was mortal kombat even. I made some comment about “well, at least it’s not sf2 the movie the game”, and fatbear was like “they were playing that last week”.

Nah, I don’t mind going to Portland, since I’d be carpooling, anyways. Free is always a good price, but simply because it’s free there, why not see if we can’t make it the case in Seattle? (hence the UW reference)
I simply prefer Seattle because it is a more central location for the NW in general (Olympia, PDX, Seattle, Vancouver, Bellingham, Tri-city area, etc.) The Vancouver guys aren’t known for going too far out of their way for tournies (ask Paul, he spends more time with the BC players than most of the others here), but the Cali players are (hell, even the EC players came to Lanwerx). That’s not bias, that’s good location. And who are you to talk about bias? If there isn’t any super-cheap or free hosting locations up here, then Portland is obviously the best choice, no doubt. Still, centralized locations would be best. The more people that show up, the better.
Im not biased, what i said was Fact. Your University Washington thing right now is a MAYBE at best. The Room in in Portland is a DEFINATE. there’s a difference.
I could give a damn where it is at. As ong as its simple and organized and cheap. So far we have Cheap and Simple. You dont. And when is the last time Vancouver even posted over here?
Lol. The bias comment was a playful shot unrelated to the location issue. We’re not in any big rush, so just take it easy, man. Let’s check out every option available to us before any serious debate. Nobody’s even checked out options regarding hosting up here. I know I would be able to hook up the lounge at my school next season for free, but there’s construction right now. I’ll ask my uncle about places on Saturday, since he’s got more connections than you could imagine. 30+ years as a Sears executive and prominent member of the performing arts communit does that, I guess.
A lot of people are posting as if this is set in stone already. There’s a lot of bad posts in this thread. Either way, I’m glad to see so many people are excited about the idea.
calm down pimps and playas, we don’t even have a roster of games yet. There seems to be a bit too much input going on in this thread. We need to chill out and take this shit like super joe’s women…one big ass piece at a time.
Personally, I don’t give a fuck where it’s at…as long as i know where it’s at and i have a way there…it’s nothing period.
Just as long as i know before head of time.
so anyone actually trying to figure out a date for this? To be quite honest having it before the end of this year would be dumb. Ppl just finished up with evo, and if we are trying to have it up here in the winter, no ones goign to try to drive through all that snow/rain/bullshit to go play some fighting games, this ain’t 2k2 ya know.
But if we are trying to get this going we need to start setting up shit now, the more time ppl have to prepare for this (and i’m not talking about practicing) the more likely they will come up here to play. How does March sound? That’s when we had NWR1 a few years back, and it was pretty crackin.
March or after sounds better for me, my schedule for this year is completely unknown to me right now.
Still haven’t gotten a word of response to this. Just a bunch of crap as if the location was pretty much set in stone, like Deezo said. Thanks, Frank. I’m obviously not the one to help calm things down
I originally posted March, but I thought about it and decided against that because of the region (it’s still frozen in march) and inconvenient scheduling related to spring break (most school districts mix up their breaks to not coincide with the others for economic purposes) and the like that month. Is this agreeable?
I like spring time for a major.
That would be a good time…
it can flow right into to evo. so we can get all the practice that we need plus more.
SAVAGE THINKING MY DUDE!
…hence the may suggestion, coupled with the “gives plenty of time to learn from the regionals and practice before Evo”…
Overall…i think it would be dope as all hell…
