Brento is like the only one that got me working on it thus far.
I give him alot of credit.
Thanks, Brent.
A game thread is needed.
If anything Melty Blood could be a side tourney… Money is Money…

Shouldn’t a KOF be there so we get some crossover in other games from random mex’s that show up, ala Random Select?
Good job on the footwork, Brent.
Fucking dumb ass broad that told me NO DISCOUNTS even with a club. I must find that breezy and tea bag my nuts in her mouth for spreading lies.
Alright, I talked to Airthrow and we are going to include King of Fighters XI into the poll over Melty Blood because it will give us some variety and had a good showing at Random Select.
The poll wont be accurate at all. Simply because where it would be taking place. Nor would I overstate the importance of the turnouts of games at Random Select. Cause Marvel was tripled by Guilty and Melty had a higher attendence than it and it was a side tourny.
As for how many games… If you can get the rooms for 12 hours. You wanna remove 2 hours for set up and clean up. Should get 9 to 10 hours of actual tourny time (this really generous given the nature of these things.) Some games also run pretty fast I’ve noticed. Like ST and Guilty ran much faster than CVS2, Melty or T5:DR. You should take that into consideration. Also how many TVs you can get is important too.
As for What games… Everyone most likely knows what games have larger scenes and are the most active. I dont know why it really would be in question unless time would be extremely limited. Which at the moment doesn’t seem to be the case.
The poll is just to get an idea of what people would like to play. The majority of the decision about the other games to be played will be based on what people talk about in the discussion thread, what equipment needs we can meet for each game, and what we can manage within the time frame of the event. Extra hours are not that expensive if we end up going over, so we can manage if we end up running long.
I realize that Melty Blood had a good attendance at Random Select, but I don’t think that there is much of a scene here in Seattle and the feedback I was getting was saying leave it out. I would like to have as many games in the poll as possible, but there are only ten spaces. If you really feel that it should be in the tournament, then bring it up in the thread and we can see if we can make it work. I want to have Marvel, ST, and 3S in the poll even though they are a given, just so people can see that they are in when they look at the thread.
We will definetly take into account the number of TV’s and projectors that we can use as well as the time we will have.
Haven’t we decided on places yet?
We haven’t officially decided on a place yet. I want someone else to check out the rooms at UW before we decide on it, but the HUB has by far the cheapest prices of any place that we have looked at, and it has rooms available at around the time we should probably be holding the event. It is also an area with lots of free parking on the weekend, and a huge base for advertising to college students who are probably who we want to come.
But above all that, the price is awesome. Or did I say that already.
I am pretty sure we could stay late, but I will double check as soon as possible to find out the hours for sure.
I know that other events have stayed very late into the night, but they were in ballrooms and I am not sure if the same rules apply.
Gracias to everyone for all the kind words.
I think in all honesty that we should stick to having the tourney in a place we dont have to pay for, saves alot of time and lost money. hence seeing that Portland state is free and more then enough room
If it aint broke… dont fix it.
True.
I agree that free is best, but the Portland guys already have their own tournament scene going on, and it is going strong and is well managed. We are starting small with this first event and are only shooting for about 100 to 150 people. The Seattle area needs a tournament too, since a lot of people who would like to go may not be willing to travel.
I want to keep planning tournaments and making them bigger as we go, and eventually get to one that is big enough to really call it a “Northwest Major,” where Seattle and Portland can collaborate. When that happens, I think discussing between Portland and Seattle is a good idea. For the Seattle guys planning a first small tournament, I think it is a lot easier to plan and advertise for something close. If we can work to raise money by donations between now and the tourney, it will make paying for it not such a big deal.
Quite frankly, we know we have a tournament scene. It’s pretty much equal to Portland’s scene, but it’s just centered at Zach’s, and Marvel and ST take the place of CVS2 and 3s. If we wanted to do it in Portland, we’d have to give up a lot of Seattle players who aren’t willing to travel if it doesn’t have other benefits (i.e. Rowtron, who attends Evo because it’s in Vegas, not because it’s Evo). Let’s face it, Portland has the better CVS2 and 3s scene, and we’ve got the more active ST and Marvel scene (yes, I know Portland is strong in ST. They are NOT as active, though.) Also, most of the better Tekken players are WA residents.
The venues we are talking about cost nothing! $10-15 entries from all contestants would guarantee the venue paid for plus a pot near the size of RSWS’s.
Jetay: though your point is valid, I argue this- convenient and cheap is better than free.
I think it’s safe to say that we have the better ST scene considering we swept top 5 at Random Select. Not trying to hate. The “better” comes from the more active.
edit: I think we should raise some money somehow other than relying on tournament fees to pay for the venue, since the pot should be as equal to the players’ entry fees as possible…but good luck getting any lazy ass Seattle people to do that, I can’t even get them to warm up to the idea of throwing a benefit tournament for Zach, the person that allows the scene to exist…
I’ll throw some money down for venue. $20-30 is all, however.
I am planning on doing some fundraising at UW over the next three months. I will be renting a table out on the HUB lawn and asking for donations and maybe selling things. (Not Drugs :P) It won’t bring in much on the day to day, but over three months I think it could do a lot.
I am also going to ask around for donations from local businesses. The problem with that is that we have no set organization that we are representing, so no one is going to give money to a loose group of guys who want to start a tournament. We also need to come up with a good name for the Tournament.
There are a lot of possibilities that open up to us if someone at the UW starts up a club and we become affiliated with it. It may help us with the cost of renting a room if we go with UW, and it could help us with calling around for donations. At the very least, I am going to start a Marvel club this week because I need to rent a table on the lawn and that is the only way.
Brent: You need help with that im down.

Conveinient and cheap for who? its hard enough to get cats to pay $5 for a marvel tourney it seems. Then you think people want to pay for the site we playin as well? sorry but even jenna jameson couldnt sollow that. and i dont see the convenice of it either then other then the seattle scene’s unwillingness to travel.
Nothing personal, it is what it is though.
People don’t pay $5 for the tournies at Zach’s because it’s not a serious tourney, plus there are multiple setups for marvel and several other games running simultaneously. Not because $5 is expensive to them (most of the time).
Brento: Sounds good. If you need some official looking stuff (flyers, brackets, spreadsheets on expense and output for players, etc), feel free to hit me up for it.
for my own self, i know i need to be traveling to Portland. Not more often, just period. I have friend there too, so I feel personally responsible for feeling like I have been neglecting my friends that live in the Portland and immediate area. I will work on that post haste.
I think the thing that people should understand is that, us having an event up here, isn’t in an effort to take away from the Random Select tourneys. We understand they have a free venue, but just because they do doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be able to have an event of our own (as it won’t be free).
I will be sure to let you guys knows about anything as soon as it comes up. I will definetly need a lot of help with stuff. One thing that we need is a design for our tournament that can go on our flyers or a website, so if if you have any graphic design skills or know anyone who does, that should be something we could work on right away.
Raishinken- I PM’ed you a response because although this is the place to discuss things like this, to much discussion takes the thread on track and it needs to stay on track so that we can keep doing coherent planning. If you have more questions feel free to post them, but I will PM you responses so that this conversation doesn’t take over the thread.
