Northwest Majors: June 28th at UW

Parking is free on Saturday after noon, unless there’s a sports event.

So I am not sure who has called where for checking on Venue’s, but here is a list of places I will be calling tommorow. I might not get through all of them, and tell me if you have already called around to any of them and if you have any info.

Seattle

Holiday Inn
The Marriot Hotel
The Weston
The Four Seasons
UW
North Seattle Community College
The Seattle Convention Center

Bellevue

Bellevue Community College

I may not get to all of them tommorow, but I will get to as many as I can. Anyone who reads this, post up any other places around the area that you think might work and we can get a list going. Let me know if I am calling anywhere that someone has already called before tommorow and then post up the info, and I will skip it.

Tempest- What is the word on that place you were checking out?

May I suggest South Seattle, South center area perhaps? Those places are flat, and hard to get lost in. Just a thought.

Well GRCC and Highline Community College…

Im getting calls from them this week sometime.

Not to mention the venues’ gotta be cheaper than literally trying to hold it in Seattle.

I found a list of event venues for Seattle online.

I went through the list and called all of the places that looked viable. I ignored places like chowder houses, restaurants and places that just wouldn’t work, like the space needle (although that would be cool, no?)

It was mostly dead ends, but there is no hurt in trying every option. Here is the list so far. I included some other places to call that weren’t on the list.

Places to Still Call-

  • Four Seasons-

  • Green River Community College

  • North Seattle Community College

  • Highline Community College-

  • Seattle Convention Center

  • UW

Places to Hear Back From- Waiting for an email or a call.

  • Holiday Inn ? 800 dollars for a roughly 100 person space. They are emailing more information.

  • An Uptown Hideaway ? Left a message. Seems good if the price is right

  • Doc Maynard’s ? Left a message.

  • Seattle Center ? Left a message. Good possibility because they host a lot of community events.

Places Called that Won?t Work- I assumed that any place over 1000$ was too expensive.

  • Crowne Plaza Seattle - 4500-6500$ far too expensive, even with price variations in the year

  • Fairmont Olympic Hotel Seattle - 1600 square-feet, 1500$

  • Grand Hyatt Seattle - Renting One Section of the Ballroom is 5000$. Two Sections is 8000$.

  • Lake Union Crew - 2000$ or so.

  • Pravda Studios - 3000 dollars roughly for a Day.

  • Summerfield Suites by Wyndham - One number was disconnected and one had an advertisement for phone sex. Probably No.

  • The Triple Door - 1500 dollar facility charge and a food and beverage minimum purchase.

I heard back from an an Uptown Hideaway which I was really hoping was going to work, but it doesn’t look like they are going work out. That is pretty expensive.

Here are the prices she gave me.

I don’t know who has called where yet, but I am going to call Highline Community College on Monday and ask about the cost of renting out the Student Union Building (which is great and would be ideal) or the cost of renting out maybe another room that might work for us. I used to work there as an event planner so I know everyone in the office who we would have to talk too. Not sure if that could get us a discount, but we can hope.

Green River Community College

Cascade Room

Occupancy: 150 - 450

Room Rental (with food service) $600.00

Room Rental (without food service) $695.00

Got call back. They’re sending the papers through the mail. Seeing if i can pull one more quick string!

Edit: Gym is a 1000 dollars a day for 5hrs. Additional charges may apply for custodial, tarping and chair rental.

Kenny did you get the prices switched for w/ food service and without, cus without is more expensive… but so far GRCC is the cheapest.

That’s usually the case, because if you are going to have food service, you will probably have to buy from the campus caterer. That way they end up making more money in the long run because they charge you for the food and service fee.

As crazy as it sounds. No that’s the actual price!

BALLIN!

Yup. Exactly.

I wanna go up there eventually.

They do have a so so marvel cab. lol!

I found out the prices for both UW and Highline-

Highline Community College

Date Available- first two weekends in June.

Space Available- Main floor of the Student Union which is set up to hold large events and is a really nice spot.

We would get the large main floor and two large very large rooms adjecent to it. The only problem would be that there are a large number of round tables that can’t be moved from the main floor. They can be moved around, but not moved out. There would still more then enough space if we moved them to back.

Cost- 1,050$ flat rate for 12 in the afternoon to 12 at night, maybe later if needed. There is also a small service fee, but not much.

University of Washington HUB-

There are other buildings, but this is what I have on the HUB so far. There are a lot of different rooms in the HUB and different availability and pricing for each. The ballrooms were not available in May.

There is also a different cost for student groups and all other groups. The cost is a little less than half as much for student groups, but we can’t charge an entry fee and the majority of people who attend would have to be UW students.(although I have been to school group dances that have charged money and didn’t check student ID, so I will see if that is really the case, or if they paid the usual rate).

Room Rates

**Large Meeting Rooms- **
70-200 People

Student Group Rate

First 4 hours (Minimum charge)- 45$
Each Additional Hour (12 maximum)- 11.25$
Custom Set Fee- (Charge for setting up tables and chairs) 25$
Cleaning and Maintenance Fee- (Only if we get food and drink) 26.80$

Standard Rate

First 4 hours (minimum charge)- 90$
Each Additional Hour (12 maximum)- 22.50$
Custom Set Fee- 30.00$
Cleaning and Maintenance Fee- 30.00$

Availability-

**Room 106B **(It is one Room. There is no 106A)

Available on Weekends of
May 10th, 17th, 24th
June 7th

Room 108- I beleive it has the same availablity of 106B, but I will double check

Room 200ABC- May 24th

There is also an additional 500$ building opening charge after school ends on June 14th, so we can’t do it then.

Sorry I didn’t do the math on this yet, but I will later tonight. Now that we have some reasonable prices and dates, we should start discussing where we would like to hold this, and maybe some fundraising ideas.

Let’s sell drugs! :woot:

I volunteer to sample all product so that we can price them apropriately.

Elias your signature is hilarious.

Like whoa.

A rough estimate of how much it would be to have the event in a room in the HUB would be around

**201.93$ for 12 hours with a student rate

356.73$ for 12 hours with a standard rate**

This is by far the cheapest cost we have found so far. I don’t think that they are the greatest rooms that we could have, but they would definetly work. Someone who goes to UW or will be by there sometime soon should check them out too.

Room 106B, Room 108 and Room ABC on the second floor.

We also need to start up a club so that we can get a student rate.

I am going to make a thread about what games we should play in Northwest Majors. It will be the place where all game discussion and voting should go on.

Before I make a thread and a game poll, I want to decide on how many games we want to have at the tournament. I am thinking 5-6 would be managable and fun.

Here are the games I have thought of putting in the poll. I was thinking of leaving Marvel, ST and 3rd Strike out of the poll since they are already a given, but I don’t want to make people think they won’t be played so I will put them in there anyway.

Marvel
Super Turbo
3rd Strike
Tekken 5 DR
VF5
CVS2
GG:AC
SSB Melee
SSB Brawl
Melty Blood

There is a huge SSBM scene at UW so I wouldn’t count that game out right away; or Brawl, since it will be the new thing by the time this happens.

If I missed any other games, post them up.

How many games do you guys think we can manage, and within our time frame?

i disapprove smash, despite how much i <3 it… there’s a big following in wa (gameclucks has a tourney every month in Lynwood) but the matches take forever, and a 30 man tourney takes around 3 hours with 6 tvs. brawl looks even worse, running at a slower pace with the average match lasting around 4 minutes.

Once I get the game discussion thread up, that will be the best place to post this comment and others like it. We should keep this thread just for planning and logistics, and keep all game choice discussion in the other thread. I only posted the game choices in this thread to ask people if there were any I missed and should include before making the poll.

I will have it up as soon as I get a few posts from people telling me if I left any game choices out. We can only do a poll of ten. I personally feel like putting Melty Blood in the poll would be a waste if there are any other viable games, but it had a lot of entries in Portland.

I just wanna say thanks to Brent and everyone else that’s working on making this possible.

Another thing, as far as games go…

Nix Melty Blood
Nix Melty Blood
Nix Melty Blood

Everything else is fine.
