Northwest Majors: June 28th at UW

I for one, promise Axel all the emotional support he needs.

Yes, I would actually prefer it not be at UW, but then again even my local community center charges a good amount of scrilla for using a room.

Where is my support? He already as the power of America at his fingertips.

I got you.

I already agreed not to refer to you as KV for a full two weeks out of respect for sending me to the loser’s bracket, gottdayum yer needy.

LMAO.

First to 10? :karate:

For…? Please don’t say Kid Valley, those stakes are too high.

Me and you, FOOL. You’re laughing at me so I challenged you. :wasted:

WATAAAAAA!

This sounds great. The PDX event was so well run, I’d go again this weekend if they had one!

I would also be happy to lend my cabinet to the event for fun, if I can get 3 people to help me move it there and back!

I’d help move shit just for the ride.

Yeah, I’d totally lug my cabinet on over too, for casuals at least!

What’s everyone think about what games to have? I think the six they had in Portland, MINUS TEKKEN, would be good

why no Tekken? because by the time this tournament happens, Tekken 6 probably still won’t be out on console, but 5 will have probably died down because of 6
that, and PS3s are a big hassle to get enough of…

what do you guys think? should we axe Tekken?

I think we should… Saves us time for a game that doesn’t really have enough of a following up here at the moment to warrant adding it. Time is always an issue because tourneys ALWAYS run longer/later than people plan for. I didn’t get to play any ST casuals before the tourney (except a little when we first got there) because the ONE tv running the game had a rotation of like eleven people. I didn’t even have time to sit there long enough to get a game in because I’d have to leave and go play GG and lose my spot. People should just play Marvel if they’re looking for a game where you kill people in one combo.

P.S. Where do people go for ST sprites/backgrounds/anything, like to use for an avatar? I want some Fei sprites or something.

count me in!

Let’s get a gathering going this week. I could probably host Wednesday if no one else wants to. I bought a DC converter being shipped from Texas earlier last week so if it’s not here by Wednesday… well that’s just bullshit.

EDIT: OH SHIT IT WAS ALREADY IN MY MAILBOX YESSS. I might even start playing Marvlolz now!

So I’m assuming at this point, the main problem is venue related?

You should’ve spoken up, I would have had no problem giving you my space in line so you could get some warmups in. But I can see why you’d be hesitant to…just FYI in the future I am blatantly pro-Seattle players so if I can do something as small as let you cut me in the rotation to get some games in, then that’s great.

I had a great time at your house last time, and your cats are cool, so I’m definitely down.

Ah, alright, I’ll keep that in mind. I just figured most the people there deserved their spot in line because they sat there the whole time.

No more kittens either so less (no) allergy problems for PaulLee and less curious kittens bitin’ yer ankles/toes and climbing on the joysticks mid-match.

I’m thinking for Pacific NW Majors (Seattle-based), we should have:

  • MVC2 (obvious choice)
  • ST (once again, obvious)
  • 3s (it’s got a strong following still)
  • Tekken 5.1
  • Guilty Gear XX: AC
  • SNK game chosen by majority vote

The reason I did not include CVS2 is the lack of a gamer base in Seattle, as Portland is where everyone plays that garbage, and including SNK brings many players together that would not otherwise be hyped. We saw how much attention it got at RSWS, let’s make the happen again!

I still believe Tekken may be a good choice to include, as many people play it at an intermediate to advanced level here, and random people show up out of nowhere for major tournaments. If it’s on Seattle, I guarantee that 10 random Seattle players of Japanese or Korean origin will attend and beast. Post the tourney info at Tekken Zaibatsu and post flyers at UW.

VF5, though gaining popularity, has too few players playing and fewer still playing seriously. Maybe in the future we will see this in tournaments. Let’s keep it restricted to “casual” gatherings like Zach’s for now, however.

Why 5.1 and not DR? Just a question.

So you want to cut CvS, which would bring in lots of people from out of state, and include Tekken 5.1(why?), to attract some random ass dudes we’ve never seen before?

no offense, but I don’t think you really thought this one through

here are some random ideas I’ve been writing down in notepad:

games:
ST - DC
Marvel - DC
CvS - DC
3s - PS2
GG - PS2

notice the simplicity of consoles! only requiring two different consoles for the whole event will really make things easy

I think having somewhere around 20 TVs would be a good amount, with at least 8 dedicated to tournament matches only, and 2 set up in head-to-head fashion ala RSWS
the other 10 TVs would just be available for BYOC

which means we would want to have at the very least 5 DCs and 5 PS2s for tournaments, also at least 10 PS2 -> DC converters

I’d also want to produce some really nice match videos from this event, hopefully in the style of X-Mania 7 (with the player reactions after each round!)
record at least top 4, ideally top 8

online pre-registration with a discount for registering before the event ($10 prereg, $15 at door?)
I’ve got the means to do this, so it should be no problem

prizes:
1st: 70%
2nd: 30%
3rd: entry fee

so who is interested in seriously helping me plan this? I’m about to PM a few people I’d like to have on board, but if you want to help out, send me a PM too!
