Any chance of Northwest Majors '10 taking place early September instead of late August?
Technically though, it makes the most sense having it right before school starts and PAX.

This will most likely remain an annual thing.
I think the goal for next year was to once again hold it prior to EVO like NWM '08 was. The aim has been for NWM to be an EVO qualifier.* This will be the goal once more. Brent couldn’t find a venue with an open date this year prior to late July AND properly spaced away from the other few EVO qualifiers. This was in part due to the fact that EVO was a littler earlier in the season this year, and also because many venues in Seattle are fully booked more than 6 months in advance.
*EVO qualifier meaning that the top 1 or 2 finishers at NWM of certain games gain seeds at EVO.
Also, I would like to point out just how much of a professional and a beast Brent was during the event. A lesser man would have shown weakness, and he was all business through out the entire event. Winners don’t caught up on that weak shit, they keep moving forward. I think we already know this but it is worth repeating. God bless America.
Are you drunk at work? I read your post just now, and I kept imagining you saying those things in your drunk, angry voice. The enthusiasm carried through due to your use of words like “beast”, “weakness”, and “God bless America.”
That’s almost as awesome as Pablo’s posts in general. Which is pretty damn awesome.
To quote Pablo for a moment… “Yeaya.”
I believe it’s, “llealla”.
Ok I put this off for a while so now I’ll make a post!
First I want to talk about my performance in the tournaments themselves. Basically it went on a sliding scale as the day progressed. Won KOF XII, 2nd in STHD, won a decent number of matches in the SF4 5v5… and then by the regular SF4 tourney, welp. I think the lack of sleep caught up to me and I truly feel that I wasn’t playing at my best. I’m extremely disappointed at not making it out of my pool, but even if I hadn’t gotten eliminated I think I would have fucked up some other match later. When I was watching top 8 I was actually having problems keeping my eyes open for a bit. For some reason after the event was over I managed to get a second wind of sorts and was able to succesfully make it back to Portland without driving everyone into a ditch somewhere, so I guess that’s good.
Now I also just want to address one thing that annoyed me a bit when it happened. It was during HDR, in my first match with zass (Winner’s Semis?). I win the first game, and then right as we start the second game Brent comes over and asks if we want to switch to the big screen. Julien says sure and I’m just sitting there in a “…uhhh…” state, next thing I know Julien’s getting something to eat while they finish setting everything up on the big screen. What? I don’t think it’s right to “take a break” in-between games of a match that’s going on, setups should only be changed unless both players agree there’s a problem with the monitor, lag or whatever. I should have spoken up about it, not sure why I didn’t… it happened so fast so I guess was just slack-jawed over what happened.
Special thanks to Jetay, Ray, and Evan for putting up with my innate ability to always get lost driving somewhere I’ve never been to. Fuck downtown Tacoma!
Much thanks to Brent for organizing such a great event. I had a blast even though there was a hiccup or two (see above).
Now for other shoutouts (gonna keep this non-local since I see the Oregon guys more often):
Bokkin - Guess we’re 1-1 now! We definitely need to get in more games soon. Don’t know what I was thinking jumping in on your Akuma, but I WAS pretty out of it at that point.
Cole - One day I will figure out how to beat Dhalsim. Mark my words. (probably not)
DoughBoy - Good shit winning the race to finish your SF4 pool, you were definitely on top of things. Sorry I didn’t have a definitive answer to your HDR questions ;\
Elliot - Bison’s crouching Strong is magic, yo. Who knew it had the ability to fuck up Gouken’s EX counter! I’m still baffled by how exactly that happened.
Jameswalton - Man, we finally get to play HDR in person since we never did manage to do that in Vegas, and I get called away after one game because the SF4 5v5 was starting. Guess we’ll have to get in some XBL games soon since we really haven’t played in a while.
jalapNo - You always said wassup to me whenever I passed by. That’s really awesome of you.
King - You’re too good with Zangief
Munky Shyan - Abel in the top 8, hell yea! Your mixup game is hella fun to watch. Gooood shit landing that anti-air c. HP, qcf+P, ultra juggle in the 5v5 too.
Pablo - Like I said it’s a shame that I didn’t see much of you for some reason, because you are a hilarious dude.
Paul Lee - the 5v5 was fun, even if it did end ultimately end up making the event run over on time. But the comraderie of team events is always great.
Red_venom - Why couldn’t you move away sooner and miss the tournament, you jerk >:O gwehehehe ;]
Riki-oh - Thanks man! I somehow forgot to mention this when we were chatting, but I was very impressed with your Bison play in the 5v5 too. Very solid stuff!
scrubydan - We never got to play!!! I sooo wanted to get through everyone else on Team Canada, but Air stopped me in my tracks (er, I think it was Air that was playing 4th, right… there were two Ryu’s in that first lineup so now I’m confused). Maybe it’s for the better that we didn’t play any casuals since you would have destroyed me in my catatonic state near the end of the night anyway. Oh well, next time!
Trace - You are too fucking hardcore. For reals.
XTG - Always awesome getting to hang out with you man. Next tournament we are DEFINITELY playing some 98UM.
zass - Seriously, that loser’s final match could have obviously gone either way, I just got EXTREMELY lucky. But that’s ST! Those were some intense matches for sure. We definitely need to play online more often, whenever I see you on you’re in a private or full room… feel free to toss me an invite if there’s room because I’d probably be down!
If I left anyone out I’m sorry, this post is getting long enough as it is! Can’t wait for the next event!
Sorry I haven’t been online to resolve whatever the situation exactly is, but if Mandel/whoever I may have offended with my comments saying I didn’t think Mandel was top 8, please hit me up on PM, phone, in person, whatever. He got top eight, so I must have been wrong. I don’t have anything personal with anybody, but if I don’t like someone or don’t think they’re as good as others think, that’s my opinion, and I’ll say it. If I’m wrong, why care? Mandel, I’m sorry if what I said came off as personal, as I didn’t intend it that way. Maybe I was just sour cause I didn’t see some of the underdogs I was hoping for make it in the final 8. Either way, sounds like there was a pretty big deal made of this, so talk with me and clear this up, eh?
The way I heard it, you were making mandel and king sound like underdogs. Ima just leave it at that, but honestly (like carlos) you guys need to approach those you offended in person and appologize. Online/pm/aim isn’t acceptable.
^I’m still confused as to who(m) I offended but I never mean anything serious as I never really am. Again I apologize to those but really I play this game because it is fun and I’m competitive and the people are generally awesome. I didn’t know this game had such friggin politics I just play the game and in tournaments play who I’m told then report. Seriously I’d really like those people to tell me what’s up cause I’m really confused and I’ve asked around. Sort of frustrating because I do my best to be nice to everybody even if they are throwing attitude my way that’s just the way I was raised.
On a lighter note:
BBH-Yeah we definitely need to get more matches in but it doesn’t look good for me since I know you won’t make the same mistakes again.
Carlos?: The Pad Ken/Fuerte player-dude you really are an influence on me to make my game better thanks for the reality check and showed how transparent most of my game is. You played me like an instrument ggs man I hope to play you in the future.
@ b0kkin - from what I hear from people is you were asking someone what team they were on (in reference od the 5v5 exhibition) a team, knowing they weren’t on any of the teams. Then proceed to boast about being selected for the wildcard team.
It’s not about politics at all, someone did that to you, you’d be salty about it. It’s about treating people with respect. I mean it’s great that you got to play on the wild card team, but it’s not great to brag about it.
Listen I know you’re a good kid. And maybe your intention wasn’t to be disrespectful, but in situations like that you could disrespect someone with that kind of behavior. Instead of turning this into a big debate, I think the easiest solution is to just go and appologize to Kriangkrai.
If we have another 5v5 regional event next year, the wildcard captain should be nominated and voted for. I understan that it was short notice, but I think it could’ve been handled better.
We will have one next year and it will be a bigger single elim tourney that will include all sorts of teams so no one can complain of being left out.
The thing about it Bokkin is about how you obviously get too excited when playing this game in social gatherings, and you just need to calm down a bit. A lot of people don’t really like how your always the know it all giving off random bits of information (and in most times it’s bad information), and the biggest thing about yourself is that you hold to highly in consideration self affirmation. What I mean by that, is that you ALWAYS want to be respected by everyone here (it’s quite obvious through how you talk and how you act) which is FINE. There have been multipile times where I’ve tried to teach you or show you something in the game, but you want to up me and show how much YOU know compared to me…
All in all, it’s fine to enjoy the affirmation from other players, but to press it upon them by saying “what team are you on?” was bull shit. The team tournament was a fucking joke. The wild card team having you, and Paul on it? So a wlid card now consists of a Ryu and a Sagat (paul and orlando)…how is this wild at all? No disrespect to the players, but it sounded a bit biased to me. A REAL wild card team? I dunno, Seth or Gouken (Jalapno and Eliott)? The fucking dude KRANGKAI AKA ThaiVega? Characters who actually are WILD and entertaining to watch? Team Seattle: Cole using Cammy? King using Akuma? Munky SHYAN of all people? It’s no offense to Munky, he’s a fine player however there were many more people who could have taken the spot and played seriously… A REAL team seattle? Maybe REAL main characters to be used? But THIS is my point…
That the team tournament wasn’t taken seriously…it was purely for exhibition and fun, and you made it out to seem as if you have enough credentials because your on a team and others weren’t. If you said it to me, my response would have been “I’m not on a team, want to go first to 3 for $100?”
So for your information…calm down during social gatherings, your pushing a lot of people away from you (in which I normally think your a pretty good guy, but I get annoyed because of your excitement.) Secondarily, quit acting like a know it all, if people ask for help, share your suggestion, don’t spit random facts at spontaneous times. Thirdly, quit looking for the affirmation from others…your a good player, let it be shown from how good you are, not the random facts that you spit, or the team that you were on.
I smoke rocks!!~!
Honestly…shoulda been on the wild card team
Oh don’t get it twisted, no one is complaining. I knew I wasn’t going to be on Cole’s team because of my reunion.
I think that might of been my friend anthony, if he was an asian guy with blond hair and a black controller. Really bizarre how he showed up, he had no idea of the seattle scene or anything. He found NWM somehow, saw my name on the pre-reg list and decided to come out because I was going. He apparently won 3 games before being eliminated out of the SF4 tourny and is a PS3 Pad warrior. Anthony if you check this website dude post up!
I know you weren’t it’s just that alot of people were complaining.
All of you guys who are all salty about my picks or anything need to chill because all said and done this was a free tourney that was planned last minute so please don’t be so anal about it.
I am sorry it didn’t pan out like people wanted but it will be truly epic next year.
Dude, it’s all good how it turned out…I’m not complaining that I wasn’t on a team, because to be honest I didn’t care about it.
But just by seeing some of the team structures and stuff, it didn’t make any sense, and I’m just expressing my own personal opinion on it thats all…I mean seriously Paul, Aside from Elias, that wildcard team didn’t make sense at all, and I think you know that though too.
All in all, it was your first exhibition you ran, so I’m sure the next one will be better.
