Marvel and Guilty Gear are pretty fuckin technical, I really don’t think smash bros is on that level. No hate, straight up. I have nothing against smash bros. That valdens kid hella grossed me out with his sweaty shoeless attire at the last gameclucks thing I attended. Was glad to see him wearing shoes at nwm.
F that noise. Brawl sucks. Melee is super technical. If anyone actually cares about the validity of Melee as a technical game, I’m down to show you.
Try not to get this thread off track guys, not to mention that the technicality of a fighter does not correlate to how good it is.
Melee is pretty fun, Brawl is disappointing, and that’s all I have to say.
Actually, I too am glad when everyone wears shoes.

This thread has taken a turn for the gross.
Come on now kids, Dugg and Riki both come from the smash community (did you forget?). Let’s not act like a few of the bad apples in their community and shit on a game that we don’t understand or choose to try and understand…
ty Frank. all I try to say in a nutshell when speaking smash. Back on topic, however, does anyone know the total attendance for NWM? All games together, that is?
180 players registered, smash included.
The only way I can validate my playing brawl is this:

^^wow, nice job. That’s a killer turnout…argggg I’ll be there next year!
Alright alright it’s technical in a different way.
I do think it’s more technical than SF4, who the hell honestly thinks this game is technical? Let’s be real. The most technical thing you do is uppercut, mp+mk, forward forward. Smash kinda reminds me of guilty gear in the ways you have to aim the direction you’re trying to tech when you’re getting out of a combo that ends in the air… So that you don’t end up in another combo. Or at least that’s how it seems, I assume controlling the way that you fall in that game plays a part in the mind games. It’s like tekken but not as gross.
I tried so hard to watch some smash matches and like see how it goes but I got so bored of watching the pussyfooting runaway that I saw in each match I tried to spectate that I went to watch something else. I wanted to see some short hop down smash, dash down throw, dash down throw, tap 'em over the edge of the stage and smash 'em down shit. Most I ever saw was one hit at a time, if the person ever even caught the other person. Then again I guess they were playing brawl which apparently sucks?
Viper.
Well I’m just kinda being an ass and making fun of SF4. Fuerte also has more complicated stuff than focus dash cancel. Run stop low forward is hella awkward.
I tried to play smash once with a competitive/really good player, and he wouldn’t sandbag even one bit so I couldn’t learn shit. It was unfortunate. There’s a line between playing a better player to get good, and just straight up getting raped before you can figure anything out. I never really understood just straight kicking the ass of someone who doesn’t know how to play a game. It makes me feel dirty the few times I’ve done it. I remember when LTB used to do that to me at third strike back when lanwerx was dead and the cab moved to like woodinville. I was the only person who showed up for the arcade cabs and he wouldn’t even give me a chance at winning or getting better. Harsh.
/fun facts
Hmmm… somehow this last post of mine looks strangely familiar…
I used to play Melee, it is a very technical game. It’s more technical than SF4 and 3S. Doesn’t really matter though, I’m just saying.
@Mechanica: Melee has a lot of what you described, I quit playin Smash because Brawl was just too different, and the differences were negative(to me. ) Though I really actually quit inside, when they finally announced 4. I’ll still play Melee if anyone ever wants to though, definitely before I play Alpha3 xD.
Marvel is kinda like that now too, are there people out there that will REALLY sit down and teach a brand new person how to play that game?
I stated this before, my main issue with the smash community is the immaturity behind some players. Like, if there was someone that wanted to get into the scene (like when I did when Brawl first came out), at first everyone was being assholes and were definately showing that they didn’t want anyone else to come into their scene. At least there was Yagisan? who was willing to have me and Jmar come over to play Brawl with them (Yes Jmar, THAT Jmar, he was trying to enter the brawl tournament @ NWM btw…have I made all the Marvel heads cry yet?).
Surprisingly when we talked to them about their scene for brawl, the similarites between their scene and the old marvel scene are almost identical:
Once the game came out on gamecube, they’d have people come over a specifc house and they would just play melee all day, go to training room and practice, people would sleep over, sometimes stay for days on end and when someone would go to sleep people were playing, and when they woke up people were playing. They went out of state to play in big tournaments. Dabbled in Halo and other games for a minute, but the focal point was melee all day everyday. Is this sounding familiar old school Seattle???
got sidetracked here, but back to what I was saying about shutting people out of the scene tryin to be on some elitest shit. Imagine if we did that, Imagine if Zach, myself, mandel, rat, etc. etc. were on some “I’m GDLK, if you don’t play Marvel you’re a scrub and can’t come over” mentality…look at how many people wouldn’t even be in the scene. It would be dead (post lanwerx getting destroyed-pre keith moving up to Seattle and starting tournaments @ Zach’s and talking to Pablo and co. at the HUB to get them to come out and play in tournaments and get raped by row/rat/jmar gap of time there), So in short, everyone’s that set foot in Zach’s house from Keith on up.
Something to think about…I know I’m glad to have met Dugg, Riki, Elliot, Jared, Eric, ICE NINE!, Pablo, Elias, and pretty much every person that I’ve had the privelage to put a smile on their face (one way or another…WTF?!) and if it weren’t for the openess that we Seattlites have it’d be waaaay different around here.
So don’t shit on another game, you don’t understand. And if you choose to not understand, just say you don’t like it. Not that it fucking sucks.
Let me start:
I don’t like Guilty Gear games, or BlazBlue. It’s not my cup of tea.
They took out hitstun. …i know, right? can’t even call it a fighter.
We should!
last post on this topic in this particular thread, fo realz
If I implied that the game sucks because it is or is not as technical as another game, I didn’t mean that. I like smash bros. Crazy that they’d take out hit stun. Still never played brawl.
I know this is all off-topic now, but I’m not sure what else to add about NWM. Other than ‘fuck tacoma’. Someone was saying something about being able to rent rooms at seattle center for like 700 as opposed to the couple Gs we dropped in tacoma. I never really want to have to be in tacoma again, although it’s cool for the portland peeps to have it an hour closer.
3rd strike was 1st fatbear 2nd yabukistyles 3rd raul idk if he’s on the forums or not. and 4th was me ^^;;
You gotta admit it was a really cool venue though. Like it wasnt near anything good but damn it had a cool view and the whole egyptian thing was hype
