Northwest Majors '09 - Saturday, August 22nd- Landmark Convention Center, Tacoma, WA

Goddamn. I’m pretty sad that I missed this, it sounds like it was amazing. Damn. Good shit Brent!

Props to Brent for putting on an awesome tournament. I had a lot of fun, and am already hype for NW Majors 3!

First of all I agree with everything Frank said. A+++++ post would read again. Honestly I think the 5v5 just needed to be SCRAPPED. That shit gave me flashbacks of all the team tournaments at Preppy’s that ended up with people getting pissed off and SFIV running hella late. It basically pushed almost ALL the late finals off the main screen where they got way less attention/coverage, and also caused Marvel/Third Strike/SFIV to be really rushed towards the end. Hated it.

Usually I think shoutouts are teh gay but I will make some anyways. Because I am gay.

Thanks to:

Elias: For standing there and putting up with my random smash player/blazblue player/melty blood player/ugly persons/smelly persons hate rants all day, and also pointing out the smell of mold from a certain fighting game scene’s players.

Thai Vega: For beasting every time I turned my shitty powershot on him.

DoughBoy: Never really talked to you before but I was pretty entertained by our mini-conversations about our pool. You also ran a really tight ship with our pool, commandeering extra setups and everything. Definitely S-Tier on the tournament organizing level, since we finished like an hour before everyone else despite having arguably the toughest bracket, which is saying a lot because the Cole/Mickey/Deezo/Frank/Elias bracket was also beasting.

HEAVY D: For hanging out during BLAZ FUCKING BLUE at like 10 fuckin’ AM when nobody else from the SF scene was around. That made that shit tolerable to me, especially when I watched you rape that Tager with Jin. “FREEZE 'EM NIGGA! AWWWW RE-ICE! RE-ICE!”

Jared: For the money match which nobody watched. Sorry I kinda rubbed it in afterwards.

Brent: Obviously. One thing that I thought was cool that hasn’t been mentioned was that dude, despite obviously being a wound-up ball of stress and having to run around everywhere he was always down to spend like two minutes talking to whoever came up to him (including myself) or called out his name to talk to him about some random shit.

Frank: Beasting outside of Pho Tai.

Deezo: Just for showing up. “FINISH HIM MANDEL! DO IT NOW!”

Blacksteev: For creepin’ on rich white Jewesses outside the venue with me and also being RELENTLESS in the Tekken promotion. I swear any conversation he is around that involves fighting games he turns into Tekken. Key highlights include the play and trade guy talking to a bunch of uninterested street fighter and marvel players about their blazblue tournaments and Steev coming up and being like, “Sooooo… what’s up with Tekken” and also when I got eliminated from SFIV and was pissed: “You know what would help you out a lot?” “You mean with my rage towards fighting games? Are you going to say play Tekken?” “Yes. Yes I am.”

Mickey: Insightful analysis during top-8.

Pat: Always has his ears open, catchin’ good stories and quotes every time.

Kenny: For saying that all Blanka players need to die in a fire, and also for being amazed and super hyped up with Mandel and I were telling him about how he ignited a cultural revolution with “They in space, BEEFIN’”

Peachy: That was probably one of the best sets I’ve every played in a tournament, even though I ended up losing by a medium punch :frowning: A few people came up to me and were like that was best set of matches I watched during the whole thing.

ALSO EVERYONE WHO WORE SEATTLEVERSUS T-SHIRTS.

Man I wanted to go kick it @ Pho but my phone died as soon as I was heading to my car (and don’t know my way around the way of federal). Ah well, I needed the sleep. Double elim was definitely too much on the team tourney.

Didn’t meet a single smash player. Those dudes are fucking gross.

Thanks Brent for putting that all together, I really had no idea the event would turn out to be as huge as it was. I also really appreciate the effort that the tournament organizers put in to running their brackets. These guys were on task and put themselves through a lot of stress for our benefit.

Also wanted to say thanks to Thai Vega and whoever else was cheering me on in my match against Paulee. I don’t think I’ve ever had people behind my back quite like that, haha, so it threw me off a little. Hopefully next time Paulee’s fierce won’t be mapped to PPP

Mechanica, if you see this, we’ve got to play online or at a session sometime. There are a lot of little things I need to learn about the El Fuerte matchup like… don’t cross up fuerte when he has ultra  Unfortunately I can read about these things but they only stick with me through experience.

Also GG’s to the few people I got to play casuals with. Sherweezy, you can definitely beat my Zangief, you just got to practice escaping those crappy wakeup situations.

Big props to everyone who made it run so good. Props to Panda for not only making top 10 in Blaz but also making top 10 in KOFXII (out of 10, but whatever) and making the 5v5 team. Hope you get your stick fixed soon and if not, borrow Danny’s in the intermission since he never plays.

Shoutout to the tournament software which had a crush on me. Three byes in KOFXII and a first round bye in SF4 pools, too bad I wasted them.

Props to Mechanica, x20/Evan, Metal Health, Slash and everyone else I played friendlies with or just chilled with. Too much good, not enough time.

Major wtf at Tacoma being so hard to navigate (fuck you Google Maps and not telling me which exit I needed to get off at to get to Stadium Way) and the salty homeless people; sorry guy, I don’t give my lunch to a dude who can not only afford a cell phone but also is rude enough to stop in the middle of his conversation to try and bum off me. Gtfo.

Respeck knuckles for the guys I saw playing the different characters; two Goukens, a Fei, a Sakura (Mackinzie The Machine), 2 or 3 Gens (Metal Health) and even one lonely Dan. My Rose seems to have been the only one though :china: For good reason, at least. Blegh.

Good shit to all, would live again.

HAHAHAHA!!! that was me. It’s a release for extra energy. It’s better for my organs than holding it in. as for the ostrich similarity, i guess that’s just a side effect of the shape I was born in. And the weirdness…well, i agree.

no dude, that wasn’t you. Cause this guy was white, and played smash. Orange shirt, long straight hair, and he was causing a major risk of bodily injuries to himself and those near the stairwell…Like he was literally sprinting and like definately making maximum distance strides I swear he managed to go from where the organizing/tournament table to the exit of the hall in like 12 steps…it was disutrbing.

Badass how? Because every 6 minutes I ran off saying “Time to go smoke another cigarette!~ Yippie!” ? I’m just kidding. It was good hanging out with you again Paul, hopefully you don’t become a stranger after school starts in the fall.

Word Frank. It’s always a damn blast hanging out with you. I don’t know how we always get into the subject of people we dislike/hate about getting sodomized or going to suck a Big ‘D’, but god damn it’s just too funny not to. We’ll be kicking it at PAX for sure, so no worries. We’ll be having a gay (It means ‘Happy’, for all the people who don’t have a dictionary) old time smoking, joking, rap battling.

I also hereby call PAX the EVENT we are going to actually do Rap Battles again. Shit’s going to have a 5 figure+ headcount, giving us an audience to do the “oo!” and “Ah shit!” and “Got damn, I can’t believe he just said that!”. Any objections? Plus, it’s in SEATTLE. Everybody better make this ish!

I kept asking myself “Where the duck is Doug at?”, I would have called but you being without le phone kind of makes it Borg status, hella FUTILE! Shit was good man, you would have had a effin’ blast.

It’s all good man, I know after the big W in any match, you’re going to be ecstatic, you have every right to be as well. Good shit again.

Yeah, people saw the shirts going “Where can I get one of those!” “Talk to Elliot or Mickey.”

This is going to be a general shoutout to everyone who got named/did not get named in the previous shout out(s): I would like to say thanks to everyone for making it a good time, shit was off the chain. I probably ingested about 3grams of caffeine over the day, which is plenty good to pump that blood.

I’d also like to apologize to anyone I offended by saying something that might have put them in a bad mood, touching people (I know Kriangkai is all about the touchin love, thanks for not gettin mad when I jumped on top of you dawg!), for those I might have blurted out to smell bad (It could have just been someone’s lingering death cloud fart, or maybe someone forgot to shower, either way) sorry!

Like I yelled at Evo during ScrubyDan vs. Arturo’s pool match:
“NORTHBEST BY NORTHWEST WHAT THE FUCK!”

Thanks!

Big ups to Trace, scraping me and others with a damn broken hand + pain killers. That’s the definition of TDR.

That guy’s name is valdens. He is this weird ass smash player who’s head shakes hard core whenever he plays lol

I would also like to thank Frank for repeatedly asking me to move his TV.

Also, forgot to say, HUGE thanks to Jared. He let us use his TV for one of the Marvel set ups.

Hardbody’s can really move shit what can i say, did you even move it lol. I just remember bringing it in, and taking it out.

Sounds like everyone had fun! I unfortunately could not make it due to the GF’s birthday.

I’m thinking about going to PAX since I have a lot more free time now, so I’ll try to get in that SF4 tourney.

I just made the face-to-name connection of Jared/jalapNo. You were the dude next to me during pools that got so hype about the Gouken hitting Palm to full Ultra! Good shit sir, you were super energetic and seemed to be into everything going on when you weren’t desperately needing a smoke

Oh, and to the guy who knew his wireless 360 controller was synced somewhere but not sure where and decided to hit the Guide button while tourney matches were being played: Really? I understand it would be difficult to get all the setups to stop at once but couldn’t you have taken the batteries out, put them back in and resynced to whichever system you needed?

I just tried to edit that out of the footage but Movie Maker crashed when I tried to publish it which I take as a sign. The whole 2 game set which ended up taking over 9 minutes(!) is going on youtube unedited.

I gotta support the homies. Pablo, you and some of the Marvel crowd have been pretty chill with me so it’s the least I could do. I didn’t want you guys having to play on laggy TV’s ESPECIALLY in a game like Marvel. The game is so fast paced I’d hate it if people were screwing things up/getting screwed by a laggy TV. Glad to see that bulky TV came in handy.

Yep! That was me. That was my boy JamesWalton on the Gouken, he’s been coming to a lot of gatherings as of late and when he did something he’s never done around us/me, it got me HYPED!

Wireless? The only wireless controller I recall was Taramoor, but I don’t think he’d be doing anything wreck less like not taking out the battery pack of his controller, he’s a pretty considerate guy for the few moments I’ve been around him.

Are you sure? I gave that guy a ride back to Spokane; he was a little weird but a pretty calm and nice guy most of the ride. And his hair is anything but straight.
The guy in the green shirt is the guy I’m talking about. You can see half of him anyways.

YO! it was good seein’ ya again, bud, even though it was for like a quick ‘hey! good seein’ ya! … k bye!’ haha, next time let’s get some casuals in since we didn’t get to play! I wanna play against your Abel, if you’re still using him. If you’re on 360, add me!

I think this was my friend Lamberto, I think he signed up under ‘yayaboi’. Hope it didn’t cause detrimental chaos for someone’s match, he didn’t mean to, so don’t give him too much shit. (Hopefully he reads this haha)

Gouken’s pretty beast. At random I was messing with him in training mode a few hours before we drove up for NWM and I put together a 700 Damage/700 Stun combo from whatever stuff I’ve seen on youtube  Too gross.

And yeah, it was a guy with a wireless black 360 controller. And he did it on purpose to see where his controller was synced to, after which he walked over and basically said “oh, so it’s this one”. It’s not a huge deal or anything but it just seemed kinda random.

Aha, they just reset basically. It was toward the beginning of the second round so they just restarted and threw the first round to get back to 1-0. It seemed like more at the time because there was some confusion on Panda’s behalf when the matches resumed whether they were “real” playing or not.

Wasn’t Taramoor then, he had a white wireless controller.

Francis, gotta talk to you tomorrow.
