Northwest Majors '09 - Saturday, August 22nd- Landmark Convention Center, Tacoma, WA

Weird, I didn’t realize anybody had seen that.

Yeah. During the long stop-and-go stretch of one lane I-5 N a crazy BC driver accelerated into me while I was stopped. I saw her out of control so had enough time to accelerate a little into the shoulder and minimize the impact, but my bumper is probably going to need to be replaced. It actually doesn’t look that bad really, evidently Lexus bumpers crumple really well.

Lame, though.

I do not have the bracket for pool C of SFIV. This was the bracket that Kuenai was running. If it surfaces anywhere, please either get it to me or do a high res scan and link me to it.

Paul Lee and Chris from Gameclucks should also post all the results that they have in this thread. I’m anxious to see how much money Smash brought in. I thought it was funny to hear Brian talk about how he KO’d Frank (his partner for Brawl doubles), and then Frank KO’d him 3 times.

Yours was the insanely big screen at the front of the hall, right? That was really flashy, almost gave me sparkly anime eyes when I first saw it. Bitch was a touch unwieldy when we had to get it back to the Uhaul, though. Thanks a lot for your contribution.

Do U.S. and Canadian car insurance retain when drivers cross over? I know that you should NEVER take your car into Mexico, because American car insurance contracts explicitly fails to cover incidents that occur down there. But that could be because no one has insurance down there, and the bill would then have to be covered by U.S. companies regardless of liability.

That one… MINE? Shit I wish, homie. My wife wouldn’t even allow me to get something like that if I had unlimited funds. My shit was a little 22" ASUS LCD at the exit end of where Bracket A was.

She wants to handle it privately - I’m just supposed to send her the bill. So it should be OK, just a minor timesuck. =\

First off, i’d just like to fuckin’ thank Brent.

NWm’s was very well run and organized, and I really appreciate that he took the time to put something like this together, allowing BC players to attend.

Another thing i’d like to say is thank you to Mickey D as well.

I’m glad you and I had a chance to both apologize to each other, and just get things sorted out, and squared away.

When it comes down to it, you’re a real chill ass dude, and i’m happy I got a chance to finally play you.

You definitely leveled up, and I hope our match didn’t disappoint you; It sure as hell didn’t disappoint me.

Last, good shit to all the people I was able to play/see again/meet.

Shoutouts to Sweepador, anti-hero, Mechanica, Rayblade, Francis, Omne, etc etc.

Sorry if I forgot anybody!

I’m fucking hella tired right now, got home at 5:30, so excuse me.

I appreciate everyone who gave me props, and i’ll be sure to keep practicing.

The next tourney you guys have, I won’t disappoint!

GG games to anyone I played. Great event even though I had to jet before the finals. I would like to thank anyone who let me use there stick especially Carlos who let me his his stick through out pools. Whoever was running pool D great work getting our poll done quick.

P.S. Finally won my first tournement match and it felt great. After months of losing I finally feel I’m heading in the right direction.

Thanks to Brent and everyone who contributed. Hope the financials worked out…if not, let us know and I’m sure we can get some PayPal shit going.

Met so many chill people. Had an awesome time.

This is the Northwest, son. All day every day.

Thanks Brent for putting everything together and to everyone in the scene who brought their gear and setups to make this a huge success. I had a blast!

Thanks Brent and everyone for making the tourney happen! last year and this year’s NWM definitely was a good experience i’m sooo coming again next year! :wgrin:

QFT! Thank you Brent, you did a BANG UP job. I hope next year I can volunteer and help out more.

Next time! You! Good game man, still wiped the floor with me, but hopefully I’ll have more tricks and reactions to get a set from you.

Hey Guys,

I have a really long thank you list I need to post up, but I can’t do it right now. I have to go return the U-haul and the James’ (LogicHoleFlaw) TV. I passed out for around 12 hours and got up bit ago. I will go more indepth later, but I have a few important ones.

I have to say thanks to Keith for working the entire day and keeping the entire tournament from sinking into oblivion. He ran so many tournaments and kept so many things organized, I don’t think there was a time when he wasn’t working or helping out with something. He is still working right now to get all the brackets posted, info up and doing the lost and found.

Huge thanks to Paulee also, who brought, pre-loaded and managed the Tio software which made the tournament run so smoothly throughout the day, and ran the 5v5 that everybody was really hyped for. It was a huge help.

I have more but I need to post them later. I would like to thank absolutely everyone for coming. It was awesome to see so many people there and get so much support.

It was definitely a great tournament Brent. I’m working on Scrubydan and Air’s vid right now.

Edit:
Holy Fucking Shit. Once you understand how it works, iMovie works really nicely. Not as powerful as my Adobe Suite combo, but hey, there isn’t much I can do when I only have my laptop haha

Damn you, yummy! I’ll get you next time. D:

Is there a way to figure out what place one got in the overall tournament by our pool placing? I don’t get how pools work in that sense. Even just finding out if I was in top 30 or whatever is cool, just curious. Always sad about never knowing my placing because I’m not a top 8 player.

I think you got top 36 Elias.

Awesome event, thanks to Brent and the other organizers.

Big ups to Brent for the well-run and fun event. To reitterate what has been stated previously, I want to have Brent’s babies in another life.

an eltric female vega with sunglasses thats just freakin ridiculous and hot not the eltric vega viper but you wanting to have brent babies

Before anything, I’d like to thank and congratulate Brent again on organizing an awesome event. I congratulated him on the way out, but I’m sure he was out of it to even realize I said it to him. It couldn’t have been easy by a long shot and there were a lot of peeps who were able to do a lot of the leg work for you all day. So thanks to everyone who was organizing seats, running brackets, making sure people were where they needed to be. It had to have been ridiculous to run brackets, find people, throw down hammers of truth, and piss people off. But the reality is that people HAD to keep things organized. Period. So good work to everyone involved in keeping it running forward. I’ve pretty much downgraded myself to casual status. I can’t keep up with the ever-evolving scene like I used to with Marvel. Plus, working and being with my girlfriend just takes up my time. I’ll still be around, you just won’t see my name in tournament rankings. And I’m fine with that.

I’m gonna put this in a spoiler tag, so anyone who wants to skip it won’t have to scroll through all this stuff I’m about to type.

Big shoutouts go out to everyone (including but not limited to):

NWM Love

[details=Spoiler]
Keith/Doughboy: sometimes being an asian nazi is what’s required for the progress of the tournaments. We had to be outta there at a certain time, you had to enforce that. Firm but fair. Great work on your brackets! Oh hey, it’s mastermind with a lowercase m.

Jetay: Good shit chopping it up with you Friday night on the radio show and finally meeting you on Saturday. Hope you had all your gear with you, I know it got moved around and whatnot way too many times.

Zach: In all my years of Marvel, I had to wait until the twilight of my Marvel playing ability to play against a really good Megaman team. I had fun being locked out of getting in close. Great game!

Nolan/Dan/NW Marvel crew: It was great playing Casuals in Marvel with you guys. It only took a couple of matches with you guys to convince me that I should try it again if only for one last time. What better place than at the Majors? Dan, I’m pretty sure the Lee from five or six years ago would definitely have given you a better fight in Marvel. Francis said you were a beast back at UW, I believed him even before I played you. Nolan, always good to play against you. Thanks to both of you for showing me how to play again. By throwing me in the corner and keeping me there until I tapped out. hahah also shoutouts to Pablo the Beast and Wenzelsaurus for letting me borrow your sticks.

P.S. - As I sat down to play a match with Nolan (“how do you play this game?! hahah”), I heard someone in the background say something like, “OH SHIT! We got two OGs playing Marvel over there!” hahah I was thinking who? me? Whoever said that, it’s nice to know that someone still recognized me from the Marvel days once I sat down at the sticks.

Seattle New Blood (Jared, KK, Emperor Pat, Lamberto, etc.): second generation is alive and kicking. I leave the scene knowing it’ll still be there if I ever decide to take it all seriously again. You guys are young, hype, and hungry! Stick with it, homies. You guys are going far!

Apoc: Glad you were able to show up, Old School! Great to chat it up with you again during the matches on the big screen. Bremerton represent!

Frank: Glad you were able to show up, too! I know you had that reunion going on and whatnot. Hope you had fun there, too. Was that MrWhiteFolks walking around with you earlier in the day? Could’ve sworn that was him. He probably doesn’t remember who I am, but yeah. hahah

MKP: Holy crap it was like two ghosts running into each other! Long time no see, man! See a lot’s changed since I last saw you, dude lookin’ all swole and shit. Your little kid gonna be playing street fighter, too? Hope so.

Deezo: You were unfair at the back of the hall on that console. What did you finish with? Like 23 wins? hahah …if I had known you were gonna be there, I could’ve brought my DC stick and we would’ve been able to have our long-awaited Marvel money match. And it would’ve been epic. It will have to be sometime in the future, though. Good shit with Chun as always…and rep the fat man, too!

BC peeps: you guys are monsters. Amazing display of skill throughout the SFIV tournament. Especially AIR. Linking like it was nothing! Jeez. I was blown away.[/details]

And to everyone else who knew who I was, introduced themselves, or pointed me out to new people. Great to have met everyone that I did, and congratulations to the NorthBEST fighting game community. We ran something huge. And it was amazing.

Congratulations again to Brent and his crew for a job well done. Congratulations to the tournament winners, congratulations to the money match winners, and congratulations to the 73" big screen TV. Next year, we should open up that stage for a giant projector! Let’s fill that hall to capacity even up there in the balcony!

-Lee

First off, thanks to Brent and everyone that made NWM possible. I had a really great time. I’m mad that I can never seem to get past winners round 2 (and I had a bye the first round :arazz:), but coming out always makes me hype to practice, and I’m super excited to be moving down to Seattle.

Shout outs to Nathan Paul for being cool, Jared for being a badass, and Emanuel for beasting on me in casuals, as well as everyone else I talked or played with.

I thought I posted something last night but apparently I didn’t.

First and foremost, and huge thank you to Brent, can we like hold an event FOR BRENT and get him like his favorite kind of cake or some strippers or something?! Honestly I don’t know how you can do it, everytime I seen you through out the day you were just calm poised and professional. I’m jealous of a person that can keep their cool with all the potential frustrations that were probably going on, but the tournament players would’ve never know from looking at you.

So many shoutout:

Dan, great to see you as always even though our meet and greet was brief, wish I got the chance to play you in some casuals this go around.

Orlando, thanks for rooting for me man  didn’t even know people were watching that money match hahaha.

THAI VEGA: You were reppin it man, can’t wait to see the video of that match.

Emperor Pat: Congrats on your 1st win at a big event dude, just seeing how hyped and excited you were was getting me hyped up too.

Jared: Same shit man, watching you get hyped up and showing your true passion about the game is inspiring man. Can I become a part of you? I’ll pay for V.I.P. hahaha

Michael Davis and Miss Deanna: It was great to see you guys, I feel like I haven’t seen you for an eternity Mickey, we gotta change that man.

Lee and Francis: SILVERDALE REPPRESENTING! Man it’s always great to see you guys, and Lee you were right. The clicks formed up right after everyone met up and said hello and what not hahahahaha, but my reunion was fun to say the least.

DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZO: Dude it was a pleasant surprise to see you there, good shit on making top 8 with out really playing the game since EVO, let alone having an interest in entering tournaments for SFIV since EVO. Thanks for the pep talk outside after my horrible performance in the loser’s bracket.

Masturfader: Wow I knocked you into loser’s first round, and you still placed higher than me! =[. SEE the hardest match IS the first match hahaha. Good stuff though man you picked a great tournament to be your first.

Riki: The bison gets better everytime I see it man. Although Team Bison in Smash would’ve been pretty epic.

Ghrrk: We didn’t really get to hang out that much yesterday =[, well that is until Pho. Yeah I can kinda beast sometimes.

Sherweezy and his Crew, the Fresh Faces Volume 2!: Hey man thanks for rooting for me during my match with Kyle, hearing you guys got me fired up and helped me pull that clutch round. I did the best that I could, and unfortunately be it nerves or just a higher power telling me not this time, the last sequence of events was definately NOT what I wanted.

Kyle: I see that I can smash on you casually, but can’t seal the deal when it really counts >_<. But seriously dude, it was a great match, the best that we’ve had, and LIKE ALWAYS, we put up a great show for everyone else. does the bird call shake

Elliot: I’m glad that I got you cracking up at Pho, my anger is always amusing to others.

Jeff: Good shit on getting revenge from Pat’s man, we are even once again. Video’s will be uploaded soon.

Thanks to everyone that didn’t make a complete fool of themselves, or living up to the gamer stereotype…especially when two of my High School friends came in at the last minute. They were surprised at how big the community was for Street Fighter. And one of them really liked the Team Northwest shirts!

Shout out to Everyone that helped contribute to this event, from volunteering wether it was their souls or their equipment or both, to Munky for getting Play N Trade to come out and offer up some swag, to Chris for helping run Smash, and lightening the load from Brent.

Now onto the darker side:

First off, what was up with that dude with the long hair that was like making leaps and bounds up and down the tournament hall and like clearing all the steps like he was a fucking ostrich or something? I saw him do that shit like once or twice and…well it was weird as hell.

I did realize that a majority of the smash community really are assholes, but there are some that are ok. I wasn’t really fond of the fact that this guy picked captain falcon to mock Brian (BTW thanks for partnering up with me man! Sorry I killed you three times though), and just kept doing falco punch like an idiot. But thanks to the guys we played second round that like actually explained the rules and what not for Smash tournaments.

The 5v5 while a fantastic idea on paper, really led to having SFIV roll out past midnight, as well as not having SFIV finals on the big screen. I really think that keeping the tournament single elimination would’ve shortened up the time by at least 30 min. to an hour. I also felt that the wildcard team was picked on popularity instead of skill, not downplaying anyone on the team itself cause they are good players, but Mark was there, Deezo was there, Apoc was there, Trace was there. I mean unless I’m missing something, but if you’re leading a team wouldn’t you want the best players you can get? Also I didn’t get how you were appointed Captain of the WildCard team? I think the Captain of that team should’ve been talked about instead of having the person that decided to run the 5v5 become the appointed captain of said team.

Carlos/B0kkin: When I heard about the remark where you asked Kraingkrai if he was on a team, and then were gloating about how you were selected for the wildcard team really dissapointed me man. It was a very childish and disrespectful thing to do, and coming from someone that is really trying to get people to change their minds about you from when they first met you months back and like really pushing to have you be more in the scene socially instead of just competitvely, remarks like those are like a slap in MY face. You just set yourself back 10 paces in this scene.

Jaime: It’s unfortunate that we have haters like that in the scene that not only talk trash about our best players but our ENTIRE scene. Seriously Jaime, if you think we suck or are awful at SFIV, then why come to these events? You could do yourself (and probably other people) a favor by not showing up. What don’t get is how you guys like keep rollercoasting up and down on peoples likeness meter, there’s times where you guys are tollerable, and friendly, and ppl want to invite you out to their gatherings. Then shit like this happens where people are utterly disgusted with your actions. I don’t get it.

I really hate to end this post like that, but these things needed to be addressed. Listen I had a really fucking bomb ass time yesterday, right up there with EVO minus the slot’s and drinking anywhere thing

Again thank you Brent from the bottom of my fighting spirit’s heart. Our scene would be astray if it weren’t for people like you.

Paul and any captains from the 5 v 5 (excluding Portland cause I know ya’ll) If you can PM me the tags and/or names of your players as well as which would they prefer, that would be greatly appreciated for when I begin the editing of the 5 on 5 vids Thanks
