Northwest Majors '09 - Saturday, August 22nd- Landmark Convention Center, Tacoma, WA

If you guys want me to commentate, I’ll be a lot less with the swearing, I’m looking pretty ugly with my swearing.

I’d prefer you doing commentary over most people there, because you have game knowledge and your voice has character (you grab people’s attention). You can keep the swearing down if you’re conscious about it, and if you let a couple slip by, people will live.

Better someone charismatic and knowledgeable than boring and safe, IMO.

Let me fuckin’ commentate.

Dang, it wasn’t on your list to do? Maybe for next year then…I think it would have really been nice.

EDIT: Thanks Jamie for the compliment

It wasn’t until I saw how cool it was at Devastation, but there is a long to do list, and I can’t do it all by myself. There is still a month left, which is a very long time if someone wants to make that a priority and take charge of it, but I myself can’t do it.

A big problem is that I don’t know the first thing about it. I will check with the venue tommorow and see if they even have Ethernet or wireless at their building.

Chris from Gameclucks will probably have streaming, or allow us to use his equipment if he chooses not to do it. There is a big Smash Tournament (BIO3) going on the same day in California, and he is trying not to overshadow that tournament to much with this one. He may choose to not stream Smash for that reason. I’ll ask after I see if they have internet.

Live Stream: WE CAN DO THIS

All it will take is a little bit of work setting up/planning and a computer with internet.

I have a camera for it, Ray has a camera and powered splitters (I believe there is someone I know here who has the same as well) for projecting/recording that perhaps could be used, Zach has cameras that should support it. We can get several streams going if we want, but the thing that will be hardest to do is get commentary into it. If anyone has some good headsets to lend to the cause, I can get this all set up on my laptop at the event in twenty minutes, easy.

P.S.) If anyone has ways to contribute to this -camcorders, a/v splitters, laptops, mics/headsets, etc- PLEASE get at me with this. Best way to reach me is my cell: (360)202-0227, and I just cleaned out my inbox, so that’s one way as well.

pps) No prob, Mike.

I would suggest explaining your list…I feel like you’ve taken the burden of NWM totally upon yourself when there have been people trying to help for such a long time! Is there anything others can do? I know that people want this to be as great as it can become, and a lot of people are willing to work for it, but I just don’t know if we’re really going in that direction.

I would like to commentate if there is going to be HDR commentation. I don’t know enough about SFIV to knowlegably commentate, but I heard only good things about when I commentated for ST last year.

There is a lot that people can do. Your definitely right that I did take a lot onto myself. Their are some people who are working on things right now, and the more that help the better it will go. I usually just wait for someone to go “Brent, I would like to handle this. I will be in charge of it.”

Right now I am taking care of really bare bones stuff

  • I need to go in and meet with the venue rep and explain how we want our setup.
  • I’m still working with Chris from Gameclucks and I am going to see how he feels about the setup and what he will need.
  • Need to organize the tournament loan thread to make sure we have enough of every setup. We will need about 12-14 TVs for tournament setups and hopefully around 12 for casuals, along with systems. The more people can post up about what they can bring the faster it will go. Chris (GameClucks) is bringing his own equipment and will likely have 8 TV’s and setups in his area.
  • Figured out tables and setup today, so I am going to get them ordered tommorow and try to figure out transportation to the venue. Will probably have to get them there the day before the tournament.

There are a lot of things other people can do to work on the tournament and get things ready/build hype!

  • We need a tournament announcement on the front page! If someone can write it up, I’ve got pictures saved from last year, and Julian (Airthrow) can post on the front page.
  • Woki is working on a tournament trailer.
  • We need to figure out a sound system and equipment. I am checking with UW STF to see if they are open past the 22nd. If they are, anyone currently attending UW can get cameras, DVD recorders, projectors, laptops and sound equipment completely free for the weekend, and its great quality.
  • Need someone to figure out a decent recording setup to try to capture as many matches as possible.
  • It would be cool if someone wanted to start figuring out the logistics around a making a DVD.
  • Streaming. I will check about Internet tommorow.
  • New flyers with Elliots logo would be tight.
  • Getting in contact with local media, like the Stanger, Papers, News, City of Tacoma, local gaming related businesses, and anything we haven’t hit yet is all really important. I actually met that guy from the Stranger last year who wrote the negative article, and he told me I should check out the tournament when I told him I played SF, so any publicity really is good publicity.

Feel free to add to the list if there is something you think is important and needs to go up! If you would like to be in charge of making it happen or help someone who would, it will go a long way towards making the tournament great!

If you can get the gear I can help with the recording of matches and the dvd making.

GO BRENT GO! Sorry that my boss fell through with the audio stuff. =[

The NWM trailer should always start out with Darude - Sandstorm.

Me and Pat will do a live performance for the Trailer.

I would like to commentate, mostly on SFIV. R Panda can vouch that I am not only hype, but I know my shit and can keep up with the match.

I’m also going to try and organize a Rose Ball tournament and would be down for commentating on that if I’m not in the finals, not to mention how well that would fill time on the stream if it happens.

HAHA! Rose Ball FTW!

Rose Ball is the highest level of SF4 metagame. Fact.

Rose Ball RanBats in the future if this is successful. Get hype.

Forget that. Rose Ball bar fights! haha.

Oh man. I’d seriously do that.

Just registered for SFIV and BB. And I haven’t even bought BlazBlue yet haha.

I know everyone likes to wait til the last minute but get on that! We want that pre-reg page to look BUFF so out-of-state people will want to come.

I’ve got a lot of experience running brackets in general, I know how to write and manage them as well. While I’m more inexperienced with games, I can definitely help run some brackets, as long as I don’t need to know the advanced mechanics in the game I’m helping.
