Fuck smash, fuck Soul Calibur, all the other games I can at least respect a bit.
edit: To actually say something borderline intelligent (MAYBE): SFIV is out, it will bring HELLA people, have you SEEN all the scrubs running around the forums nowdays? We can usher people in from SFIV in DROVES, we no longer need to cater to the smash community. And really what have they ever given us in return? Rude to us when they show up at Preppy’s with no visible interest in learning a fighting game. They show up, keep to themselves and stay in smash world.
It’s like trying to bring 30 year old guy who lives in mom’s basement out clubbing to encourage him to step up, it just doesn’t work. Their numbers might inflate our drawing a tiny bit, but I don’t think they are worth the headache…they will bring hella people FOR SMASH, they are not interested in broadening their horizons to HDR or SFIV, or especially Tekken or VF.
soul calibur is gonna be at evo right? how bout just a 2 v 2 soulcalibur thing then? keep it pretty short.
on a side note, what about having a dj to spin music? hed have a setup where you can announce people who are up and have a possible entrance song played for finals. too bad i dont know anyone who does pyrotechnics haha
if i played marvel id use run away storm and have britney spears - sometimes as my entrance song.
Before June is a no go. In June, yeah. It comes out 6/25.

Presumably the NA release will be simultaneous (as suggested by the NA publisher), or within a day or two. Should get something official from them in the next few days. But… yeah. Either way, NWM is on 6/28, so… Not exactly a lot of time for people who don’t have easy access to the arcade version~
Actually that was last year. It’s August 22nd and 23rd this year. 8/22
Sometimes I run…
Sometimes I hide…
Sometimes I’m scared of you…
But all I really want is to hold you tight…
Treat you right…
Be with you day and night…
But for real, I think at DJ at NWM would be dope. I’m personally all for Blazblue and KOF XII making it onto the NWM roster. I think that would be sick and I also think it would be fun to watch as well.
I think Blazblue should be in as well. I can’t stop playing that game. Every character plays like they have their own game engine. That’s a bit of stretch, but its not to far off since every character is totally unique in play style and just the way they function.
What does everyone else think? Blazblue for NWM? I’m still hesitant about KOF since I never hear anyone talk about it anywhere, and there not much of a KOF community. We can still have a tournament for it, but making it an official game means we’ll be advertising for it to people who are excited to compete in it. Does anyone really think that there is going to be a community for it like that? If so, we can give it a shot.
You ever pick up and play Guilty Gear, man? Lol.
From what it sounds like most GG players stick with GG instead of BB, but I’m glad there is still interest in it all.
It’s worth a shot I think. Besides the game at the very least, will be about a month old and so unless something super broken is discovered (which really isn’t out of the question as it’s SNK) then things should be cool. I mean after all, we had a VF5 tourney at last year’s NWM. I have a feeling KOF XII would have as many if not more entrants than VF5 did last year.
KOF will beat VF5 in entrants due to mexi-assist alone.
And I lik VF waaaay more than KOF though I will play both.
How many entrants did VF5 have last year?
I’m not so sure if people would still want to play GG more than BB at NWM. I mean, we’ll probably end up playing GG mostly before EVO and during EVO after all. I guess I’ll just have to ask around on DL when the time comes.
VF5 had like, 6 entrants? It was really small IIRC.
If a 3D fighter’s gonna be there, my vote’s for SCIV, but that’s cause its the only one I play.
A way to get smash players possibly more interested in other games is to make the number of Wiis available relatively small. Since its the only fighting game for the Wii that’ll be there in force (too bad for TvC), and since every game of Smash takes at least 5 minutes, they’ll really be more incentivised to go and at least watch/try some other fighters during casuals.
virtua fighter had 15 or 16 entrants.
Frank’s thought’s as quick as possible:
NO cvs2 who up here has honestly played CvS2 since November when HDR came out?
The SCIV 2 v 2 team set up sounds pretty bomb, I’m feeling this idea, might as well 3d it up all the way and make Tekken 5 DR 2 v2 as well if you fear of time constraints.
Kof XII i’m neither here nor there on that, the sumo chick nor vanessa is in the game as of yet, and that kinda hinders my team choices.
Keep smash on the line up Brent, people that have been shitting on that scene aren’t going to enter it anyway so why should they give 2 shits that we have more people there to try and see what other games are like at high level play. Honestly I’d like to keep the Street Fighter/Marvel community as a community that welcomes other scenes into it, instead of shitting down on other people’s respected games and trying to prevent them to come in.
GG/BB I’m neither here nor there about those games too, but I know the demand is there.
Third Strike is the same.
It’s a solid 6 games Brent good job
Whatever it’s worth… I have a hunch KOFXII is gonna be building hype over the next couple of months. I’m planning on actually going hands-on next week (what are the chances of Portland actually getting an arcade cab? I’m stoked), but I don’t know the Seattle scene.
I wish the Northwest had more love for TvC. I got my import copy, and it’s pretty much amazing. I have a feeling that it’d be a lot more popular if it were easier to play (that is… not having to mod a Wii to play an imported copy). It’d be great for this, but I really doubt there’s enough support to make it happen. Alas.
Marveldesuonegai.
Frank I am not sure if this is in relation to what I said, if not go ahead and ignore me then:
My problem is that, there is a limited number of resources for NWM. Space, time, money etc. I am not even talking crap about smash the game, or the scene, because it’s irrellevent to me and holds no interest to me.
But from what I have seen at previous NWM and at Preppy’s house when a good handful of smash people showed up for SFIV, they have zero interest in fighting games. No problem, not their thing. So why expend resources on smash if they are not interested in our community and games? At the very least it could help NWM smell less like hot ass and be less sweltering in there if there were less bodies that aren’t going to give a shit about fighting games there.
I am all FOR smash players getting down in some competitive SF and other fighting games, but so far they don’t actually do so…
So fuck games that you don’t respect? Who the fuck made you Head nigga in charge? And why are you tooting you’re horn around so adamantly about games you don’t give two shits about let alone are not going to enter them (before people try to go hunting back to the numerous posts where i’ve shitted on marvel, best believe I will be playing me some MAHRVEL at fucking NWM. I got all the new school kids number right here minus dann cause he’ll probably not be there).
Why this post is coming out a good hour after I made my first post regarding this subject? I don’t know. But clam it up on the hate about other games cause all you’re doing is preventing our scene to grow. One of these other cats that play other games could end up being fucking beasts at this game (look at perfect legend that dude that won DoA4 at EVO for the one year they had it, his Akuma is pretty good right now), but with the negativity flying around you’re going to scare them off. We as a scene can’t make ppl want to play sfiv on a high competitve level (look at the majority of the ST kids), but even one is better than nothing (Riki-oh is reppin the smash scene real hard right now)
lol we posted at the same time, and i just read that shit…whoops!
I’ve been playing SF4 competitively and I’m ranked 15th on the WA brawl power rankings. Being apart of both the smash scene and SF4 scene, I would back up Frank by saying that I too want the SF4 scene to grow by introducing smash players to the game. But with the tunnel vision the smash community has, it’s not likely they will explore new games anytime soon. I mean, I had about 17 smash players guarantee they were attending the gameclucks tourney today as hyped for it as ever, even 1 of them was supposed to host the tournament and make the bracket. 1 of them showed up LOL It’s embarrassing to even be apart of that community. Some of the people are cool, but overall, they are only smash, aside from the few melee players now converting to playing Accent core. The thing that sucks even harder is that they all know SF4 is a better game then brawl, but for some reason the SF4 gameclucks has a turn out of 19 while the smash gameclucks tournaments have a turnout of 50 or higher. Sigh, it’s quite sad whatever way you look at it =/
