Calm down and keep playing Gouken sucka.
I don’t think there are any local scenes big enough at the moment to support a 3D game. Until T6 comes out, I think that shit’s kinda dead.
I hear ya, but at the same time I think people would sign up for tourney play for both those games. Gut feeling.
Tekken players really came through last time. The had great numbers and John (JWO) really pushed hard for the tournament and organized and advertised for it among Tekken players. If they are still interested in having it in, I think it could work.
KOFXII being out is bomb ass hell. That guy is looking to raw to ignore.
VF5! Arooooo!
Seconded!
It’s really important that we decide on enough games to hold a strong tournament soon, so we can get working on advertising. I think deciding on 6 games within a week or so from now is a pretty reasonable goal. Things can change if they need to, but we need to start somewhere. THE PLACE IS HERE AND THE TIME IS NOW! :nunchuck:
There are 3 games that will be in no matter what.
Street Fighter 4
Marvel Vs Capcom 2
Super SFII Turbo HD Remix
So it would be great to hear everyone’s opinion on what the next 3 should be. If we want to add more later, we’ll see if we can, but just deciding on 6 for now would be good.
So the possible games (to my knowledge) are-
Guilty Gear: Accent Core
Smash Bros Brawl/Melee
Soul Calibur 4
Capcom VS SNK 2
Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection
Virtua Fighter 5
Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike
King Of Fighters XII- Releases in June
Mandel, if you can make a poll on the first post, and update the title so people know about it, that would be awesome.
If there are any games missing that anyone thinks should be on there, please post up. There are only 10 spots for the poll. If you know your game probably won’t draw more than 10 or 15 people, its probably best to just leave it as a side tournament.
We can decide on adding more within a month or so, and figure out special events we would like to hold as well.
I think for maximum overall exposure for the event, we should have Third Strike, Smash, and Guilty Gear. Especially if we’re able to add more games later, choosing these three to start will allow us to generate hype through the many different scenes that all those games represent.
Poll has been edited onto the thread, so vote away peeps. Options are multiple choice.
I really think that smash should be looked at as far as being allowed in this tournament. I think that the game is out of place comparitively speaking and feel that though it is a fighting game, I don’t think that we should have it at the tournament as we don’t PLAY smash competitively. The fighting game scene that WE are a part of has nothing to do with smash…they have their own tournament scene that they do, and I just feel that it’s out of place for us to have that kind of game at our tournament as we don’t even participate in that game as is.
If the only reason to have smash at NWM is for “hype” reasons, I think its fairly out of place to bring another scene’s video game into the mix when we don’t even know anything about their scene. Evo had it for one year, and is NOT having it this year, I feel as if having smash at NWM kind of strays towards a different look/feel to our tournament.
All in all, I’m very NOT for having smash at NWM, I don’t see how it fits into our specific field merely because it’s a fighting game. If your trying to run NWM very official, it would be smart to run it like Evo.
EDIT: And btw, please take cvs2 off of that list…the game is dead and gone, there’s no reason to have it at NWM.
I can feel you on that. Maybe going full EVO mirror style with SC4 instead of Smash would be best. But does anyone even play that game?
Thats definitely a good point…It would be nice to fully mirror Evo and be “official” at the same time we don’t really have a healthy scene for GG:AC, Third strike, or Soul Calibur 4…So I understand the idea of having a smash tournament mainly because Seattle (from what I understand) is known to have a very healthy smash scene…
I understand seeing the relevance of possibly wanting to HAVE smash at NWM, however I don’t think that it belongs, mainly due to the fact that NONE of us here on srk have been into the smash scene strong enough to take a decisive stance…this is one that THEY need to think of or come up with…it’s not in our hands, and I think that it’s kind of silly to have a tournament for a game in which we’re not a part of.
I think we would definitely get decent turnout for GG and 3S, but I can’t say the same for SC4.
SC4 is probably the game I would like to see the least out of all of the choices, honestly.
Here’s how I would say the same thing: SC4 is a horrible piece of shit.
Yeah I voted for SC4.
But only cause its the only other game I’d possibly enter.
Interesting that KOF XII is in the lead. I’m sure Nate is going rabid right now.

Hmm. TvC totally didn’t even make the list of candidates. That sucks.
I mean… I understand that it wouldn’t be a primary event given its lack of… y’know… having a domestic release… but I just have an affinity for it, so that probably clouds my judgment.
As long as there’s a solid gap of time between KoFXII’s console release and NWMajors, my (admittedly insignificant) vote definitely supports it.
3S seems a solid choice by all means.
Brawl/Melee would seem a bit out of place for Majors… just as the game is kinda outta place among traditional fighters. If we can use the hype to draw people into the rest of the scene, then I think it’s a good move. Then again, if Brawl players are not likely to expand their skillset or appreciate the rest of the scene, then there isn’t a lot of good for drawing in Brawl players except to get back money on their entry fees.
Of the 3D fighters, I’d be inclined to say that Soul Calibur is the best choice… in spite of Virtua Fighter being my favorite. Soul Calibur has a wider draw (in my off-hand speculation) than the other fighters, and might have some of the draw that Brawl has (though there’s probably more hope for SCIV people taking the rest of the scene seriously).
My two cents… which aren’t worth much.
Anyone know what time of the year Tekken 6 is coming out. Also, Blazblue is apparently supposed to come out in Summer, so if anyone has anymore info on it besides that, that would be great too.
Gamestop says 10/27.
Shit is WAY off.
