The current arcade standard is Sanwa JLF or Seimitsu LS-32 stick with square gate and Sanwa OBSF-30/OBSN-30 or Seimitsu PS-14-GN buttons. Happ parts aren’t really used nowadays except by a few OGs.
I’m not sure how JLWs feel comparatively. As is, having this cab would be great for casuals but without converters, I don’t think it’s standardized enough to run as a tourney machine. With converters, then yeah, that’s great for everyone.
Krost’s supergun with built-in PS converters is great but the only issue I have is that on certain sticks (such as on my HRAP2), the beginning of matches (maybe 1 sec. or more; enough time to get hit by a fireball) occasionally becomes unresponsive for that side. We’re still not sure what causes this issue but hopefully, we can test it out more beforehand.
I’m still curious how many setups we’ll need. Is 1 really enough or should we have 2?
Roy: What part needs to be soldered? They’re self-contained DB15-to-PS converters. I think whoever has the cab needs to solder connectors to match them. But I didn’t take a look at DreamTR/Ghaleon’s setups so maybe it’s another way you’re talking about?
I’m not playing on a SuperGun for a serious tournament. That’s all there is to it. Stop arguing about shit you don’t have control over. If you are providing the cabinet, then speak. Otherwise, you are pleasing THE MOST AMOUNT OF PLAYERS by having HAPP parts on the cabinet, along with converters. Krost plays on HAPP, I play on HAPP, Arturo plays on HAPP, Damdai can (if needed), Flash does, Julian, Justin Wong, Sanford will probably play, Koop, and many others. Right there is 50% (if Flash comes) of the people even registered. If you want to be in Japan so bad and play with them, then move there bro.
I see your edit Ganelon - I am only familiar with the converters that Laugh makes.
Roy: Anyway, as much as you’re in favor of Happ, very few people were using them at the last 2 NECs that you weren’t around for. Some people can play on both but amongst those that play on 1, there are a lot more JP-exclusive than US-exclusive players right now. And amongst those playing both, Happ wasn’t usually being used either. I don’t mind having Happ parts on the cab for players who prefer them, but since many players (myself included) can only use JP parts, there have to be converters set up in that case.
If you can make sure that there’s a cab with converters or JP parts, then I’ll be more than happy to mind my own business and come to play. But right now, I’m concerned about the logistics not being resolved with only a month left to go. Like I said, I can bring my laugh converters but someone has to know how to hook them up on the cab end of things.
If they are the same converters that Jason has, I know how to hook them up. Can you provide a picture of them so I can see if they are indeed the same ones and are wired up ready to be plugged in?
This has nothing to do with my personal preference. It has to do with actually attending tournaments, organizing them, getting feedback from players, and going with what is working for now.
Whether it’s an American cabinet w/HAPP parts or an Astro City w/JP Parts, having the converters solves the logistic problem for the most part. I do not own a set of converters, but you do. Ghaleon also does. All I can do is ask you guys to bring them and ultimately it’s up to you to make that decision.
As long as we both agree having converters solves the issue, then that’s fine. Mine look exactly like the one seen here: PSX to JAMMA converter
Are Ghaleon’s any different? I’d think that in any case, we have to make sure Sorwah’s cab is able to connect them. AFAIK, it’s not trivial and someone will have to do some soldering on the cab end. Can you get the details from Ghaleon?
The versus city h2h japanese cab is now confirmed so it will be there for 3S. I hope we get a lot of serious 3S play this year! Someone needs to record this junk too!
Getting close to the date, so I’ll go through the topic and see who signed up for AH1 so I can post a list. I’m also planning on running an SFEX2+ tournament along with possibly Budokai 3. If you’re interested in either tournament being ran then let me know, if enough people show interest then I’ll make it official and get a list going
