I hate to tell you but NC is a very diverse state. We travel and play a lot of games. Not sure when you entered the NC scene but we’ve always had tons of players that play a variety of games.
They dont know about Mai. With that being said play that KOF. It loves you!
edit: whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. I posted a reply and I didn’t see page 9. Then I loaded page 9 and it as like pandora’s box of stupidity just opened up and punched me in the face… gimme a sec to reply.
Ok so NC has a pretty decent scene of players that want to get better. The problem is people like GNG and other defeatists, whiners, complainers, and overly negative people that won’t get off their ass and get better. They want to blame Capcom that their game doesn’t have a scene. They want to blame Tom that they got called a faggot and their tournament experience is ruined forever.
Well, go cut your wrists sally, because this shit ain’t getting any better. If you want to get good at a game, like Matt said, you have to do it yourself. If you want competition, you have to go where the competition is. You have to bring them to you if you can. If your game isn’t getting played locally, play online, or do the smart thing and pick up a game that has either A) a large scene, or B) locally TO YOU, there is some strong competition. I play KoF for 2 reasons. One, I think it’s a great game, and two, I have most of the states strongest players right at my door step. I wasn’t the most excited about SFxT when it first came out, but I recognize that it’s a decent game and more importantly, has a huge push from capcom and a huge fan base to support it, so I don’t mind putting in the work.
But really, you just need to put in the work if you want to be good at something. I’m tired of people thinking there’s some magic bullet that will make them competitive, or that the good players are naturals or just destined to be good or whatever. I used to be garbage, for a very long time at fighting games. But, I stuck with it and kept playing. That’s all anyone has to do. Stop making excuses, take it as your own responsibility to get better, and do it.
Dale: You live like 3 feet from me now. You literally have one of the best players in the state at your doorstep to use as a tool to improve. How many times have you asked me to play games since you’ve moved over here? Zero. I’m not going to come knocking to get you to come over and improve but if you want someone to play against, you know where I am.
As far as the games…
MK was really good early on but the scene fell off in NC and my character got changed from how I played him, so I have trouble motivating myself to get good in a game there’s no one to play against in the area. I would have liked to, because it’s getting the love from MLG and communities outside of NC, but that can’t be helped. There’s plenty of other stuff to play and get good at that has support in the scene, so I just moved on.
Marvel takes a lot of in depth knowledge to even be able to play it at a “i know what’s going on” level, much less being able to make the right decisions and play it well. The more I play it, the less random it seems to me, but from the outside eye, it definitely looks like some crazy retarded unpredictable shit. It’s all about limiting your opponents options and weighing risk reward. People complain about level 3 x factor come backs but they forget that they also have x factor, which they can use to get control of the match back from the other player, or they spent it getting to that point, in which case they technically didn’t earn their lead on the other player and just have to weather the storm of XF3 wesker or whatever. Without x factor, you have marvel 2 slippery slope, where you lose one character and now your whole team is fucked. It’s actually a pretty balancing mechanic once you learn to account for it.
Long story short, quit bitching and play what you want. Quit making excuses and get better. If you can’t do either of those things then just leave the community, you aren’t cut out for this.
Matt: yes
New guys, don’t pay so much attention to the internet and what things may or may not appear to be. Many of us don’t even post here. If you really want to get better in any game that’s reasonably popular, there are people you can play in this state to learn from. Only offline sessions with better players, and getting beaten repeatedly, will lead you to becoming anything more than casual.
In addition to this the internet is not a good way to gauge what we are really like in person although I don’t blame you for thinking that way. I know I would if I were new.
Anyways, Jon, I’m in Greensboro this week. I MAY be able to come to your place on Thursday if you’re having a gathering.
Was actually doing Friday this week for a few of the Marvel players. Does that still work for you?
Is Tom the guy who won the sf4 tourney at animazement?
Damn Matt went at me hard there. Of course I looked stuff up, it’s not like I was asking from the ground up. Teach wasn’t best word to use but I should be able to ask for help damnit lol
Jon: you right, I’ll be there on Friday, I kept having a few things pop up but that’s really no excuse.
I think it might be time for me to make a new nc flowchart…
Yuck.
Tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow!!
ReSe RanBats week 2. Come out and get some games in and level your shit up.
See you guys tomorrow.
Info is in my sig below —>>>VVVV
Thanks for the little arrows. I couldn’t find it when you said below but then I noticed the arrows pointing down and they helped me find it. Sometimes I get lost on the internet.
Yo, Tom is the shit. And somehow I still haven’t played him in 3S. hmmm… Oh well, that is all. Oh and West, fuck Gen. I was half sleep and this man was just beating my ass. lol good shit though.
Fact is, 80-90% of the folks who are serious about fighters, are really only serious about Capcom fighters.
The only time it really irritates is when folks whine about Capcom fighters, but won’t play other shit. As long as you got people to play and improve from, you’ve got a reason to play. If you’re in it for the money, then I see you playing Capcom games if you don’t like them, but you better be damn good first.
I really don’t care what other folks play, as long as I can still play what I want, and have fun doing it.
All I stated coming into this thread was that I wanted to attempt to host some tournaments for games other than Capcom games, and that it’s not cool to come off that way, as there are gay guys involved in FGs (tiny rooms huddled with sweaty guys in a total male atmosphere…who would’ve thought, right?)
Anyways, I’m not sitting in front of my laptop with my index finger extended at the screen stating “YOU GUYS ARE WRONG, I’M RIGHT!” I’m just trying to make some accommodations for the other players here who appear to be frustrated (just by digging through the thread I can see this) and the other players in WNC who can’t travel 4+ hours to and from to get to Charlotte or 8+ hours to get to and from Raleigh. It’d be nice if NC wasn’t horribly spread out, but it is.
Your frustration should be used as fuel to want to get better. When I first stated being truly competitive, we had to go to VA just to get some exposure to one top player from NY and emerging top players in that area. I did well but I knew it wasn’t enough. I wanted to get better (and also have fun) so NC kept going to VA and soon enough we got recognized and formed friendships with the people up there (who now fun some of the big tournaments).
I hate to tell you this but you’re gonna have to make the sacrifice if you want exposure. Part of becoming a part of the larger scene is to make yourself available when you can and go to where the majority is so people will care about who you are. Once that happens, then maybe people will travel to your venue/area. That will take time though.
For me, personally, it’s impossible at the moment. Student with a toddler here. However, we have other members who don’t have anywhere near that amount of responsibilities. And yeah, I do realize that, and you’re right - it’s unfortunate that NC is as spread out as it is even in terms of casuals though but if I can provide an outlet for a single player in WNC then I’m happy.
Nothing wrong with that, I just don’t like it when unknown people that haven’t been involved in the NC scene make accusations about something they don’t actually have any experience in. If you’d come to a tournament, you would have seen that we actually play a lot of non Capcom stuff, and that Tom actually isn’t an asshole. And if you are gay, and he called you a faggot, I doubt he meant it in the derogatory way it’s used towards gay people… seems to be one of those english words that’s branched off into two meanings. IE: “Blake is being a faggot” when he’s being a dick to me vs “Blake is being a faggot” when he’s giving me man hugs. Two different meanings, same word. Sorry Blake, you were the easiest example.
But yeah, more power to you, and good luck with your scene. People just get defensive over the things they love. If it takes off I might make a trip out there one day to crush you guys spirits . I’ve been meaning to take a mountain trip sometime this year, haven’t been in a while.
Haha, your welcome. You never know, this internet thing can be confusing sometimes
Wednesday Night Brawls Episode 11 IS TODAY!!!

You guys know the rules and everything about WNB but in case you dont then head over to our Facebook Fan Page and check all the details and you can get there by clicking this awesome link:
Tierless Heroes home of the Wednesday Night Brawls: www.facebook.com/tierlessheroes
And now we have some announcements.

Tierless Heroes Fighting Game Community and home of the Wednesday Night Brawls Tournament Series is happy to announce that we now have permission to expand ourselves in terms of space and the amount of equipment that we can bring to the venue we have a hold of. What does that mean? well it only means that we can now add more setups to our regular WNB tournament events allowing tourneys to go by faster and also gives us the chance to run more games!
As of right now we are running the 2 biggest games that most of the players are interested in; Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom3 and Street Fighter X Tekken and we might run that again for one more week but now with the addition of our two more setups we will be able to give some love to the other fighting games that a lot of players are still very passionate about. How about some Super Street Fighter IV AE2012, KOFXIII, SoulCalibur V, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2 EXTEND??? I think YES! We will work around a schedule so that we can rotate games weekly running 3 games or more at each WNB.
Lastly the TH team would like to thank each and everyone of you who has been supporting our events by competing and being part of the Raleigh fighting game scene, we really appreciate and thank you for taking the time to come hang out and help us grow in many ways so that we can keep bringing these events for you guys to enjoy.
Let us know what you guys think and once again thank you guys and God Bless You All!!!
